2024-01-18 21:22:26 +0000 UTCthe written korean will always be confusing because there are no direct equivalents, that is why first thing when you start learning korean is learning hangul (the alphabet), honestly i would recommend learning hangul even if you are not fully learning korean, it only takes like an hour or two if you watch a video or few about it and you will have much easier time with korean content

2024-01-17 23:12:57 +0000 UTCThe eo sound in Korean is much more of an "oh" sound than and "ee oh" sound, it is really hard to get the complexities of the sound in standard English but the "oh" sound it gonna be much more similar to the actual sound because it is one syllable and not two. You could maybe pronounce it as "ee oh" but very quickly as if it was one syllable.

2023-11-16 11:54:39 +0000 UTCIt's sooo weird to listen to you and the German group and understand both parties in different languages at the same time ahahaha. Also if anyone is interested there was a funny mistranslation in the subs at 1:22:51 . The guy said he wanted to go to Korea to "zocken" which is slang for playing video games (because Korea has internet cafes with crazy fast wifi so a lot of gamers use it like you saw in Crash Landing On You) but I guess the translators didn't know this word and mistook it for "soccer" and that's why the subs weirdly talk about how he wants to watch soccer games with people in an internet cafe lol. He actually wants to play video games with people in Korea though. In general the subs made it seem like they talked very proper and in standard German when they really used a lot of slangs and colloquialisms haha. To answer Wes about the "stuff" suffix: toys in German are play stuff :D and ambulance is sick person car / rescue car. And we can do this because the German language uses composition. So you can just make new words by combining two words (or more) together to create a new word. That's also where the jokes about ultra long German words come from because grammatically it's possible and it would be a usable word. You can basically create anything like Morgenmuffel = Morgen (morning) + Muffel (grouch) is someone who hates early mornings

2023-11-14 17:31:07 +0000 UTCWait, rewatching so new comment but, did I hear Wes say the Squid Game games aren't real? Lol I think he means the consequences of Squid Game but just in case, all the games are real childhood games in Korea. There's a reason they are run with nostalgic games but I'll say no more 🫡 gotta watch. Like others were saying, I thought you maybe watched it already so I never thought to ask. 😂 I would love a Squid games reaction! Perhaps have another palate cleanser drama along side it? 👀 honestly the dramas everyone requests are darker than Squid Game, truth be told lol except Attorney Woo

2023-11-13 23:07:50 +0000 UTCI just found out that some new follow-on episodes became available on Amazon Prime to continue with the Jinny's Kitchen stars. There are only 2 episodes for "Jinny’s Kitchen: Team Building". This was recorded about 9 months after wrapping up Jinny's Kitchen. https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/B0CLJZB9JR/ref=atv_hm_wat_c_0sLMfd_1_1

A!
2023-11-13 13:34:30 +0000 UTCAfter you guys finish Jinny's Kitchen I highly reccommend Youn's Kitchen Season 2. It has the same premise as Jinny's Kitchen, and even though Woo shik and Taehyung aren't in it, its just as fun.

2023-11-12 05:53:25 +0000 UTCThe dishes are ceramic! 🥰 I have 2 sets because they are sooo amazing. Cured my dishwashing-angst because takes no scrubbing, soaking, nothing. Also less fat and oil to cook. As for ramyeon vs ramen. It started out as the instant ramen and Koreans changing it up, but it became a staple when they started making their own instant ramyeon with different flavor profiles. Japanese ramen is all about umami, subtle savory flavors with protein while ramyeon they added more stuff like gochugaru, msg type flavoring, ect to make it lightly spicy (for people who like spicy) to massively spicy and very savory and intense. The cheese is another staple for ramyeon to thicken the broth and add some creamy sweetness. Another trick is Mayo. They also like to add onions and often boil out most of the soup and add egg to make like a fried noodles type deal. So the difference is basically JPN = Umami soft protein flavor to KOR = flavor goes BAM! And it is versatile. Traditional Japanese ramen is entirely different from this convo because the dried stuff will never suffice for it.

2023-11-12 04:26:04 +0000 UTCoh I thought you already watched squid games that's why I never suggested haha but it is really good so you can watch it. And about ramen and rameyon I think the difference is that in ramen you add meat and other vegetables and in rameyon you don't usually add protein I think haha but yes ramen is japanese and rameyon is korean

2023-11-11 22:52:41 +0000 UTCYou are right but the nuance is that only instant noodles is called ramyeon. Anything else has a specific name : jjampong, jjajangmyeon, naengmyeon etc. (even if it's not done with the right type of noodle as sometimes, even in korean, some restaurant use instant noodles for jjampong)

2023-11-11 20:44:55 +0000 UTCYou are right Steph about cooking syrup. In Korean kitchen there are 3 types. In Jinnys Kitchen they using rice syrup and another two are corn and oligosaccharide.

2023-11-11 20:28:03 +0000 UTCI've heard an explanation of the difference between ramen and ramyeon before but I'm not sure if it's true or not. So, besides the explanation of how ramen is Japanese and ramyeon is Korean, I heard that in Korea they call those instant noodles ramyeon and the one that's not instant ramen... someone please fact check me
