L felt like a mix of N and M to me. Near is cold, logical, and is the apathetic side of L, while Mello is the emotional, impulsive, determined side of L that is willing to take drastic measures to reach his goal. Near is the childish part of his personality, while Mello is the one that hates to loose. And since Mello likes sweets, (chocolate), and Near likes playing with toys, together they might represent the part of him that likes playing with his food or the thrill or desire to catch Kira in their own way.

2023-07-19 10:13:35 +0000 UTCSince you probably won't react to L change the world, I'll just go ahead and tell you that Near was personally brought in by L. In L change the world (which albeit is an alternate timeline) Near is saved from a bioweapon in the Philippines and ends up in L's care where he realizes that Near is a genius child that could even rival him, so before he dies, he brought Near to the organization. Also in the Manga, Light did not care about his family at all and even tries to sacrifice Sayu, but I forget what he does in the anime.
