i think steph caught it but the moment frieren starts fighting her clone you can see both of them erratically place a defensive spell where they both anticipate an attack with their staff which is such a RAD DETAIL

Folk is essentially something that's been passed on traditionally through generations in a specific area, so in modern terms when talking about historical lore, think Celtic Druids with the magic dealings with the Fae, ancient Voodoo practices where they commune with the spirits, witchcraft, Norse Shamanism. All these are considered to be deeply intuned with the earth and the spirit realm itself, the very source of magic straight from the energy that fuels life. You compare that to some tinkered spells make by people who don't even fully understand magic yet, it wouldn't even come close. Frierens magic is so powerful because as an elf, she's closer to the source of magic, and Fern by learning from her. It is basically like comparing real, nutritional food to supplements which doctors continuously say don't provide the same benefits, for a lack of better examples lol so ya, while they would have practical magic to make life easier, they would also have spells that would be similar to the Demon's magics. More primal and therefore, deeply powerful

2024-03-21 20:18:42 +0000 UTCI think third stage of the exam is gonna be ez clap for Fern and Frieren. I personally don’t believe that revealing Frieren’s only weakness is going to help anyone. Even in this battle it was successfully used only because there was evenly powerful mage (Frieren herself) and ridiculously OP mage who can hide herself and shoot Death Star beam within 0.001 second. But if those two are gonna fight each other, that would be kinda interesting
