I am from croatia but i live in austria and both countries have a similar system. You get a year of paid maternity leave, you are allowed to prolong it (but then you get paid less for that extra time). I know that in austria fathers have a right to take it as well, additionally, for a few months. So usually, mothers take the year off, get back to work and then fathers take their paternity leave as well. Its pretty good. In croatia, when you have a second child you can choose to stay at home for 2 years. Because it’s considered you have more “work to do” at home since you now have a newborn and an other child.

I'm not TOO versed in parental leave legally but I know in Germany you get a year off paid and you can stay at home for up to 3 years with job security (though you get paid less after the first year). Dad's can also take up to 36 months of parental leave and they can take it at once or in smaller sections. They don't get paid by their employer during their parental leave. They can however apply for "parental money" from the government which is lik 65% of their last earning

It's funny that you say it's hard to fire or lay off people in the US Steph haha because to me it always seemed ridiculously easy because of that "hire/fire at will" thing you have. Here the legal minimum is a 4 weeks notice (and the longer you are with an employer the longer that time gets) and you need GOOD reasons to fire someone, it's really difficult except for the probation period (first 3-6 months of a job). I always felt how things work in the US feels illegal haha

I think the reason Attorney Jung started laughing at the end is because he’s been worrying all week about someone injuring him and suddenly dying, when in reality he’s been slowly dying from the inside out.

South Korea is a ridiculously sexist and misogynistic country, things started to change just with late millennials and Gen z generations but it’s still a huge problem and you can see it everywhere in the country, younger women started a movement called “4B” where they sopped getting married and having kids, they straight up say that they would rather for the population to go extinct than to basically become a slave of a man, this case is indeed based in a true story of one of the many cases where the country doesn’t have a problem with hiring men that have to leave for 2 years for the mandatory military service but would do everything in their power to not hire woman because they may get pregnant and that would mean they would have to pay for maternity leave, there are tons of real cases like this one.

Might be different in US but in UK if your client tells you they committed the crime whatever it may be (murder, rape, etc.) you have to keep it confidential and you continue defending the client. However, you can’t lie to the court so you can’t say that they are innocent, instead you have to try and argue that the evidence is insufficient or something like that to convince the jury that they can’t convict because they have to be sure beyond reasonable doubt.

I know you are still about a month a way, but I really hope once you have completed these two shows you will watch Hotel Del Luna, its been close to winning polls before but I just know you both will love it so much, it has magical mystical elements that Steph will love, it also has comedy and romance and some darker aspects too, also it has IU in it and has some of the most beautiful cinematography I have ever seen in any K-Drama

this and the rest of the episodes are the ones i haven't watched completely yet so i'm so excited to finish this with you guys!

ive heard that getting fired in south korea is basically a career assassination. you have slim to none chances of getting another job, because you may be automatically considered as a troublemaker or a bad employee. thats why a lot of people stay in shitty jobs or dont expose corrupt executives, because they're so afraid of getting fired

12 weeks off after giving birth is still wild to be, because here its minimum 14 weeks. and its obligatory. you have the right to 20 weeks off but you can give the remaining 6 weeks to the baby's father. when you have twins, triplets etc. the maternity leave is at least 30 weeks
