She only takes in students that she thinks have the talent and is disappointed that they die before they can reach their full potential cause of their lifespan. She isnt a fan of Frieren cause she could be much stronger but she has no " ambition and has "wasted" her time doing useless thing like supressing her mana. Basically serie is a grandma that is disappointed in her hippe granddaughter lol
