Hope On The Street Vol. 1 by J-Hope

Fun Fact: each song on this album is tied to a specific genre of dance (and Hobi dances to them in the Hope on the Street docuseries). So… I wonder = popping Lock/Unlock = locking I don’t know = house (another fun fact: house is also a musical genre and that’s the genre the song is in as well. So it’s not dancehall—dancehall is actually a Jamaican genre of music 😂) What if = hip hop Neuron = meant to tie with the time when Hobi was in the dance crew NEURON prior to joining BTS (not sure what specific dance style they’ll be doing besides street dance)

2024-04-07 23:24:58 +0000 UTCOkay, I've come back with an idea. As I mentioned, each episode of the docuseries ends with Hobi dancing to one of the songs from the soundtrack album. Both BangtanTV and Amazon Prime have been posting 1-minute promo clips of the performances after the episode airs. Since it's going to be a while before the HOTS docuseries comes up in your reaction schedule, you might enjoy watching these clips now to enhance your appreciation for the soundtrack. (Note: I'm not requesting or even suggesting, lol, just mentioning in case you're interested.) The first four clips are already posted; the last two should be up next week after the final episodes are released. Here are the links to the shorts on BangtanTV (I'll come back and add the others when they drop). 1) Hope on the Street (series intro): https://www.youtube.com/shorts/TJgxhfQvtRw 2) I Wonder (popping in Osaka): https://www.youtube.com/shorts/fy5FNcZ4Jw4 3) lock/unlock (locking in Seoul): https://www.youtube.com/shorts/NLq_LVKkKQc 4) I Don't Know (house in Paris): https://www.youtube.com/shorts/bAmdyoZf6G4 5) What If dance mix (hip hop in NYC): https://www.youtube.com/shorts/yLJFobloq6g 6) Neuron (Neuron in Gwangju): https://www.youtube.com/shorts/6jmOGK_5tKU

2024-04-07 16:27:56 +0000 UTCMy favourite is also lock unlock too but I really like I don’t know because of the lyrics and how their voices blend well together.

2024-04-06 23:12:53 +0000 UTCI'm not sure if "i wonder" is a romantic love song, in the context of the hope on the street docu series it could also be a love song for dancing :)

2024-04-06 21:56:36 +0000 UTCyessss! Hope on the street reaction! thank you guys for this, I enjoyed a lot and yes this album was very interesting and so different compared to Jack in the box and Hope World. Jhope is an ace he can do so many things I'm so proud and I hope you can react to his documentary soo cause he explains about how dancing really changed his life and how he began to dance. I love NEURON and Lock / unlock and I don't know I just love the way Hobi's voice melts so well with other voices, Have a wonderful week

2024-04-06 20:21:34 +0000 UTCJ-Hope is a sub-vocal (officially in the group), so he does sing a bit in some BTS songs, but it's usually more harmonies or his singy-raps. Also, in RM's first mixtape, he has one song called "Adrift" where he's fully singing.

2024-04-06 18:42:37 +0000 UTCHobi has been singing since the very beginning, he does a lot of background vocals for bts' songs and has sing during some his verses as well, he's incredible and i'm glad you guys enjoyed the album, it's such an amazing project and he really did work hard, now i can't wait for you to check out the docuseries!

2024-04-06 18:30:48 +0000 UTCAs a professional musician, and someone who teaches music analysis at university, I absoluely LOVE your reactions to their music! I know you always say how you have no idea about music, but both of you have such GREAT sensibility to music and art in general. The discussion you have about lyrics and music are so similar to the ones I have with my students :)) It's so interesting!

2024-04-06 18:29:53 +0000 UTCalso: i love hobi's singing, he's such a great vocalist. kpop fans use term "all-rounder" for idols who mastered three skills: dancing, singing and rapping and hobi is a prime example of an all-rounder.

2024-04-06 18:19:13 +0000 UTCfun fact about Yunjin who sings on "i dont know": she's actually an army haha. one of the most successful fans for sure. also she's an amazing singer, dancer and performer. she's a part of HYBE's girlgroup called LE SSERAFIM. i recommend checking out their music, they have absolute bangers in their discography. if im not mistaken one of their songs played during running man episode with V and you said then that you enjoy it haha

2024-04-06 18:17:21 +0000 UTCNeuron is Hobi's dance crew when he was young in his hometown, Gwangju. If you watch the docu for this OST album, you'll see Hobi dancing to different dance styles in different cities. So happy that you've figured out that I Wonder is a song for ARMYs, it is indeed a fan song and may be a message to the members as well 💜 Also, I just realized that this album has featuring artists Jinbo /진보/ (progress) and Mirae /미래/ (future) in addition to j-(hope)

2024-04-06 18:13:12 +0000 UTCThanks for this; I really enjoyed listening with you! I find j-hope's solo projects fascinating because they're pretty different in terms of style, purpose, and structure, but they're all still completely him. Hope World was a mixtape introducing himself as an artist, while Jack in the Box was more of a concept album exploring his experiences with the larger world. Now we have Hope on the Street, which is the soundtrack to his new docuseries. Each song on the album aligns with an episode of the series, as he and his former teacher (Boogaloo Kin) travel to 5 cities revisiting styles of dance. To me, the album and docuseries are inextricably linked, so I look forward to hearing your thoughts when you get to watch. One thing that I particularly love about the soundtrack is how, like the docuseries, it blends the j-hopes of the past, present and future through the collabs. - Neuron with his sunbaes (seniors). Hobi has mentioned Gaeko's group (Dynamic Duo) as one of his influences and he literally performed Yoonmirae's song "Black Happiness" for his Big Hit audition, so it's really meaningful to have them on the title track. - the collabs with his team: I Wonder with Jungkook (self-explanatory, lol) and What If with JINBO (who's worked on production for multiple BTS songs and Hobi's version of CNS). - I Don't Know with his hoobae (junior), Huh Yunjin. I've noticed over the years since TXT debuted that j-hope in particular has taken really well to the role of mentor and sunbae to the juniors in the company, so it was quite lovely to see this manifest in a collab. Thinking of Hobi's vocal evolution has me wanting to listen to Outro: Blue Side (Hope World, 2018), Blue Side full length version (2021), and then lock/unlock (2024, and of course that guitar solo was Nile Rodgers, lol!), so off I go. Have a great weekend and thanks again.

2024-04-06 17:54:11 +0000 UTCJhope’s verses on What If were actually from the same recording as Jack In The Box lmao, I think you guys were just focusing on his English much more than usual because you haven’t heard it in a while 💜 His pronunciation has been this clear for a while now haha. And Jhope has been a good singer since like… the beginning of BTS 😭 obviously he’s improved, but out of all the rappers he has always been known as the one who can sing the best. He’s the only bts rapper who has the official title of “sub-vocalist”. You’ve most likely heard him singing before but just forgot lol. He’s an all rounder, along with jungkook, for a reason! Your observation on him speaking more generally rather than on a micro level was really interesting! I never thought about it that way, but yes that’s absolutely a part of his lyrical style! Thanks for the reaction 🫶💜

2024-04-06 17:46:03 +0000 UTCTheses songs go with his docuseries about street dancing which is why all songs have Old Skool dance vibes. The series is on Prime Video and so far each episode builds to a dance routine to one of the songs from the album.💜💜💜

2024-04-06 17:43:25 +0000 UTCTo answer your question. Neuron is the dance crew he joined before BTS. He sings how deeply rooted his passion for dance is with this experience. He was the youngest of them. They teached him how to dance and a lot about life.
