Top games from the past weekend include: Oakland-Colorado Springs had 5 goals between the two west coast playoff teams & San Diego-New Mexico was a 4 goal game with late dramatics. Indy Eleven-El Paso was also a 5 goal game!

Thank you BANGSO!!!
I just wanna start out by saying I’m impressed that you remembered I was Gracie from the YouTube page. I know I went with a generic name here on patreon. That’s really cool.
About the crowd…Birmingham Legion FC draws really well for most games. Our stadium can hold 47,100 for soccer matches. That means that a crowd of 10,000, which is elite in lower league soccer, is barely 20% full stadium. The cities population is only 200K and most sports don’t draw all that well. We have a pro baseball team, Birmingham Barrens, that averages around 3500 in attendance. We have a pro American football team, Birmingham Stallions, that only draws around 10K per game. We have a pro basketball team, Birmingham Squadron, who’s attendance is so bad they won’t even record it…and I’ve been to a couple games. There’s maybe a couple hundred people there on a good night. The soccer team is surprisingly the biggest draw in one of the most red neck states. Birmingham is in Alabama, not Mississippi, btw. You were close though. Alabama and Mississippi share several hundred miles of border. You were in the right area for sure.
I know they are rivals, but in England I support both Aston Villa and Birmingham City. Birmingham Legion actually have a joint Birmingham legion/Birmingham City FC supporters supporters group, or ultra as y’all call them over there. In the MLS I’m also that very vocal Charlotte FC supporter you get in your comments haha. That’s the probably only bonus about supporting teams in this country, without pro/rel in any state you can support one team in each league and chances are they may never ever play becuse one isn’t going up and the other can’t go down.
If you’re wondering why our stadium is so big, it’s shared with a college football team. I’m a UAB Blazers season ticket holder in college American football and they also play at that stadium. They bring around 25K per game, brought over 40K for a couple big games. UAB is the third biggest college football team int he state of Alabama, behind the Alabama Crimson Tide and Auburn Tigers. That field is designed for American football but the city made the stadium designers make it a venue capable of meeting MLS standards in case the Legion could ever get there, as well as apply to host gold cup/nations league/USMNT/USWNT games. It’s a beautiful venue and as previously noted, can seat up to 47,100 for sporting events and over 50,000 for concerts. It’s bigger than 21 MLS venues and over 30,000 seats bigger than the next USL Championship stadium. The legion have brought in two massive crowds this year, around 13,000 for a game in May and almost 20,000 for a game in June, so the support is there. The crowd for this game was smaller than usual though. It was a 4:30 PM start to be fair and those mid afternoon starts in any level of the soccer pyramid rarely draw well. It’s just an odd time for a saturday when you’re trying to make plans.
About the team, the Legion are actually having a down year believe it or not. We haven’t missed the playoffs since we joined the USL Championship the year before covid. We are in danger of doing so this year though the table is extremely tight. It was refreshing to keep a clean sheet though. That has been our biggest boogie man this year…that clean sheet has been so elusive and without the scoring power that we are accustomed to conceding even a goal more often than not means we have to settle for a draw over a win.
Regardless, I really appreciate the Birmingham Legion reaction. I know ya wanna diversify your teams, but I’ll never say no to a Legion game for you to react to, as long as we win hahaha. But no seriously, that was a great reaction and I really hope you get to check out every single USLC team by the end of the season.
The Legion do have twelve players on the roster who have had either a minimum of 30 MLS starts or are on loan from a MLS team, most of any team in the USLC. We have a couple players who have had 20+ MLS goals+assists as well. So we’re definitely talented and with an elite head coach. It’s just been injuries as the story of the year. Once one guy gets healthy, the next guy goes down and it’s hard to get depth at this level.
As for Liga MX, beyond Cruz Azul vs Santos Laguna, there really wasn’t any great games going off of score lines. My eyes hurt from all the 1-1 draws on the list lol.
