Hope On The Street Episodes 1 And 2

Comments

Quite late for this but sooo happy that you finally reacted to HOTS 😍

Anj08@HOTS💜

When ur a real fan of Wes and Steph so you already know that Paris trip story from another video😭

My comment was removed for some reason and I'm hoping it was just an accident so I'm re-writing it...I was just praising j-hope for shedding light on the diversity of "street dance." People often think it's just one monolithic style but it's actually a term we use to refer to a lot of distinct styles and that each style under that umbrella is technical and difficult in its own right. In my original comment, I went into why I think people tend to write it off as easier or fail to appreciate the skill and work that go into mastering each individual style (mostly its origin in communities of color and not exclusive European studios and its typical presentation in close quarters thus relying on intricate precise movements instead of stages with grand sweeping moves) but I don't think any of that was a reason for it getting removed either so idk? But anyway, I hope that, through Hope On The Street, we'll all understand how versatile and technical a dancer j-hope is. I know a lot of people think he wasn't trained or that he "can only do street dance" but now hopefully it's more common ARMY knowledge that he's been training in a lot of styles since he was a child.

Nah keep 'em coming, we love your stories

Infinite Ree

All these dance styles come from African American/HipHop culture so while you might recognize some of the genre names as music genres they are also dance genres, as both music and dance make up 2 of the 4 elements of Hip Hop: 1) MCing (aka rapping) 2) DJing 3) Dancing (originally started with break dancing but evolved to many genres, which this documentary explores) 4) Knowledge (you have to know the history of hiphop to accumulate more knowledge and pass it down— which makes Boogaloo Kin’s comments abt passing down his knowledge of dance in the 1st ep so important) For example House is both a musical genre and a dance genre that came out of the (queer) African American community. I think you guys can recognize what House music sounds like and when Hobi was dancing in a House style you guys noticed the foot work and how he looked like he was “falling and catching himself.” House dance is primarily focused on foot and leg work with a lot of fluid motion, so you guys were able to pick up on it without even knowing.

Ahjusshi_Brown

That sounds amazing!!! We might not be able to react but will definitely check them out!!

Wes And Steph

😂😂😂 oh no we’re repeating our stories just like parents do!

Wes And Steph

Is this the sequel to night on the elm street

kinetic98

realllllll hahaha

Nele

aaa what a surprise !! i'm so excited to watch this again with you guys, because of your enthusiastic energy this will be such an entertaining and interesting journey 💜 also omg you're so right - a fashion docu from hobi would be another thing we need from him hahah

Nele

omgggg yes I'm so happy to start this amazing show that shows how passionate hobi is about dancing and how much he loves it. I'm so glad you are enjoying it because I think it is a good and original way to show everyone about different genres of dancing, I love the editing and I love it when you get to listen to the songs from the album. I can't wait for the next episodes I love seeing Hobi happy; and when Haknam told jhope about why we agreed about doing this project made me so happy because I imagined little jhope dancing and being so happy about learning from people he admires, I love how everyone can notice how Jhope trully feels about dancing and how sincere he is. Have a great week guys!

Daniela Miño

I totally agree!!

Daniela Miño

Gahh~ I loved this~ To Steph's question, I dance. I won a trophy as a child, but I wouldn't say I'm GOOD at it lol but technically~ I'm a dancer. 😂 Bellydance is my favorite style besides crumping in street dancing. I actually had a lot I wanted to say but the episode was so good I completely forgot all of it~~~ 😅

48:55 in Germany having the cables/wires under the street is the norm so whenever I travel to countries (US, Korea, Portugal etc.) that have them topside on poles and stuff it's always SO noticeable to me like it dominates the whole view of the city (and it's quite ugly too lol)!

Lela

Lmaoooo pop lock and dropping 😭😭

ParkMinJeon

Realized been watching with you for so long, I think I've heard the Paris stairs - Airbnb story at least 3x lol love it! Super enjoy watching with you, your comments, and most especially your personal stories on the side!

TY

everything you said is 100% spot on

Infinite Ree

Wow wasn't expecting an update at all this week and especially not such a long one! Thank you for doing this and I hope your babysitter is feeling better!!

Lela

Yeeees!! Those are great and informative videos!!

Hobi has ruined the word Osaka for me. Whenever i see Osaka i always think of Hobi saying "O-sa-car, O-sa-car Vroom vroom vroom"..haha everyime...lol I really liked the series and so glad Hobi made it. The smile on his face as he is dancing is so precious and brings a smile to my face. It is always fun to watch people talk or do the things that they are passionate about. Steph I used to watch "So you think you can dance" also. Loved that show. I hope your babysitter is healing well.

by the way guys if you ever want there is a a famous dance studio called Steezy and one of the choreographer and dancer there did a few videos with other dancers breaking down and explaining both Jhope and Jimin dancing style and explaining some of the dancing techniques that they use and what each of them does uniquely. in Jimin video they also had Brian Puspos which is a super famous dancer he also choreograph for BTS before and was also part of the background dancers Jungkook had in standing next to you seven and 3D it's a really interesting so I really recommend watching it. here the links: Jhope https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLiKwXtkEhI Jhope https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHdUQU82M24 Jimin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJOaLdSC1oU Jimin 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDKCO9VSeBs&t=27s

Funny that you guys mention hobi possbily taking on video editing because in his suchwita episode he said he had been in the studio helping with the editing for this documentary since he said it would be super important when showcasing the different dances! It also showed a little clip of the editing process too!

Alicia

Omg yay you’re doing hope on the street!! Isn’t it such a cool project? And he keeps calling it “volume 1”, “season 1”, so I really hope this is something he continues to do (maybe with Haknam?) when he comes back. <3 From 2015-2021 he actually had his own thing which he also called “hope on the street”, which is where he’d either upload videos or randomly turn on a livestream of him freestyling to different songs on his playlist. It was so comforting to watch - though i’m not a dancer at all, I’d dance along with him in my bedroom while he was livestreaming, and it was so much fun. Also, since you talked about editing: during his suchwita episode he said he spent lots of time physically in the editing room, telling the team what angles and scenes to use in the docu, he was very very involved in this.

CC

Jhope was a part of NEURON before he joined BTS (he of course wasn’t called Jhope then and went by Smile Hoya)

bizarre☆azar

I am not a dancer but I think Jimin has a more fluid, graceful dancing style and Jhope has more strong pointed movements also Jimin and j hope both have different backgrounds in dancing Jimin has a mix of hip hop contemporary and modern dance background and j hope has street dancing and hip hop background which you can see show while they dance.

I guess we're truly W&S OG's 😂

Infinite Ree

i was thinking the same! The wes and steph lore runs deep😂

nylecoj

thank you so much guys for not skipping this after the poll, it's such an amazing series and so so wholesome. i'm really excited to rewatch it with you!

nessa

lol same!

Keziah Boamah

Yay!!! I’m so exited you guys decided to go through with watching HOTS! I know you said you were but then it was on the poll and didn’t win the vote so I was worried. But thanks so much for following through! Doing it two at a time will go quick and it really is just a great series. Lots of heart and so fun and informative, too. And gosh, we could just watch Hoseok dance forever, yeah? Thank you! Excited to watch this with you!! 💜

SNBangtan

@19:00 I'm thrilled to say that I've been watching you guys so long that as soon as Steph said "story time", I knew it was going to be the luggage/stairs/Airbnb story 😂

Infinite Ree

Thank you for reacting to this! This is such a heartwarming documentary, it's full of love, learning, and talent - it's JHope going back to his roots <3

Sasha

Also a lot of the clothes jhope is wearing are directly associated with the style of dance he is doing! Not all of them have a style of clothing nor is it required but there are some! For example I’ve seen a lot of locking dancers wear suit and ties or the outfit he wore when he did popping is osaka! And when he did hip hop, he wore baggy clothes which is also seen a lot. This is just what I have noticed from binge watching many many dancing shows so it’s just an observation and can be proven potentially false😅

Keziah Boamah

Sooooo excited

Helen l

I also think that jimin is both snappy and fluid as well! I just think y’all see his more flowy side most of the times but I think particularly in the “lie” dance he was quite snappy. He has insane speed control especially with his fast and slows. Jhope is also very poppy and fluid! And I personally connect his fluidness with his grooviness lol. He just makes it fluid+swaggy which = grooviness. Though I’m not a dancer or anything so this is just my opinion 😊

Keziah Boamah

I’m pretty sure they freestyled all those parts you were questioning apart from a few choreographed clips with each of the teachers that you will see later but even after that choreographed part they still freestyle a bit.

Keziah Boamah

So grateful that you’ve posted this, knowing it’s not the easiest time at the moment 💜💜 we appreciate you guys so much, I hope your babysitter is recovering well

Kimberley

Omg 2 episodes, thank you sm!!!

Ale
