2024-05-21 03:47:10 +0000 UTCAnother comment already said it, but the people who don’t want to return to the game aren’t forced to. It’s only the people that want to continue the game that are brought back to continue it, as long as the amount of ppl who want to return make up 51% of everyone who left. Hope that makes sense, you’ll see in the next episode anyway (pretty sure they show how many contestants came back).

2024-05-13 01:26:45 +0000 UTCAlso, I LOVE the sequence when they're all getting back in the van. The way they are all shot in parallels, framed the same way, progressing linearly through the action all the way until the gas hit. They spent the whole episode individualizing these characters with their stories and pasts and then said "but they're all the same, ultimately." It still stands out to me as one of my favorite scenes of the show and it's very memorable generally in television.

2024-05-11 19:46:54 +0000 UTCI picked the friend of main guy (Sang-woo, I think his name is? The white-collar crime guy) as my favorite the first time through as soon as I saw him strictly because his number is 218 which is j-hope's birthday (Feb. 18, 2/18). haha. I was like "that guy has Hope on his side. I'm Team HIM." haha. I wasn't disappointed, either. I would have picked him to root for even if his number wasn't so special to me. I think he is the most realistic character of them all. He's self-interested but also empathetic. He's reasonable and fair within the limits of the game. He's kind but also practical. I like the realism in his character. Of course, Ali and the girl from NK are great, too. The girl from North Korea bears such a striking resemblance to Enhypen's Ni-Ki, that I actually just called her Niki the whole way through the first time. It's like doppelganger close. I think even if I was so desperate where I thought I needed the money more than I needed my life, and IF I was willing to ignore the fact that I was condemning others to the same fate, I still wouldn't go back in because, if I died, NO ONE would know what happened to me. The main guy's Mom, the NK woman's BROTHER, Ali's wife and child...if they die, they just disappear and I could never do that to my family. I could never re-enter the game knowing that could be my fate. That that could be their fate as my family.

2024-05-11 18:55:03 +0000 UTCI love the North Korean girl and the cop dude. And Ali. They are my favorites by far. Also I like how they went about the storyline of the characters getting a chance to return to the real world for a bit to remind them of why they were so desperate in the first place. I think that is so realistic that for people in those kinds of situations to cling to the only clear answer they have to their problems. Oh and I'm unsure, but I think that anyone who chose to stay home would've been left alone. There was nothing to suggest that they got forced back or killed for not returning. I think it was more like "if you decide to rejoin the games, show up and we'll subtract the ones who didn't show" as long as it was still a majority to be able to run the games properly. Plus, knowing what I know, it kind of goes against the soul of the concept, but I can't say in what way yet. "Don't get in debt" hah! Too late for me 😅 I'd be in the games already if they existed and if I wasn't being supported by my mom right now while I try to get on disability lol on that note, if anyone in the comments is familiar with getting on physical and mental disability and how to get on it, I'd greatly appreciate if you comment so I can tell you how to contact me to give me some advice, because I'm so stuck and can't afford a mental health lawyer and none of my doctors know how to go about it either. I've checked out the website but it's too vague for me to fully understand.

2024-05-11 05:05:20 +0000 UTCJust helping you guys out - they needed a majority vote for people to return, but there was no rule about everyone returning. So if there are 201 people remaining after that 1st game, then as long as 101 vote to return, the games can reconvene with those players.

2024-05-11 03:45:47 +0000 UTCI really loved this episode. Getting back story and what each other them are dealing with. I binge this show when I first watched it.

2024-05-11 02:33:52 +0000 UTCI was so confused but I think you just replied to the wrong comment 😂😂 but yeah I didn’t mean they need to talk abt it, just that they be aware of it. Since they’re admittedly not as engrossed into Korean society as some of the rest of us and they’ve said (even in the last episode) that they really don’t know much abt Korean society, I just wanted them to know 👍🏾

2024-05-11 00:43:33 +0000 UTCin korea a lot of the time, water is more expensive than soju. isn’t that insane

2024-05-10 22:26:25 +0000 UTCAlthough I agree with you. I doubt they'll bring it up here. This is not the platform for it. I'm not saying they shouldn't! Just that I doubt it. Most viewers here are probably aware (I hope) of the horrible social conditions that South Koreans and Japanese are under. It's like you said, the reality of a capitalist society. And I'd like to add to that, a capitalist society taken to the extreme, because that's what they are. I do believe it will change with coming generations taking the lead. But I'm an optimist at heart.

2024-05-10 21:39:27 +0000 UTCyessss!!! the best part was that they given them the opportunity to exit the games and they did but they figure that their real life was even worse, can't wait for the next episode thank you so much <3

2024-05-10 20:42:38 +0000 UTCJust note that Sang Woo (the main character’s childhood friend) was in the midst of committing suicide when he was in the bathtub. The method he was using is very common/popular in SK where the individual can die peacefully (?) from carbon monoxide poisoning.

2024-05-10 19:17:59 +0000 UTCI already made a comment alluding to it but please make note of the social commentary this show is making abt the reality of a capitalistic society. This show, but this episode especially, gained its critical acclaim for that messaging. At the time of this series making (around the same time parasite came out) SK was creating a lot of art reflecting such messages as the state of living in Korea has dwindled as a result of rapid industrialization and late stage capitalism. We experience it here in the US as well but, as this show depicts, the difficulty of simply establishing your footing in Korean society is increasingly becoming a death sentence for SK citizens (mostly the youth). This is something BTS discusses A LOT in their music actually, particularly as it relates to all the things the youth have given up on (housing, jobs, high quality of life, getting married, having kids, and hope). I can’t remember if you guys have looked into the context behind some of those BTS songs but I highly recommend checking out the lyrics and explanation videos to the following songs if you haven’t already: - Baepsae - Am I Wrong - Dope - N.O - Strange (by Agust D and RM) - Dis-ease - Go Go - Paradise

2024-05-10 19:11:28 +0000 UTCThe best part abt this episode? Showing that “hell” was NOT in the game where they risked their lives. Hell was their lives in regular society/the real world. At least within the game, they had hope. That’s an incredibly powerful message and one that I think was brilliant for this show to convey so early into the series.
