I would agree with everything you wrote if W&S had more bandwidth to give. I’m assuming they have a static amount of time they set aside for reactions and so the strategy they employ is probably the biggest bang for their buck. Narrowing down the show via genres and what-not would ostracize more of the viewers, not less if another more popular show is being set aside for this. To address your point about other channels having more paid members because they do more specialized polls, they are able to do that precisely because they have more members. You react to popular shows, then once you get a large enough following, you start diversifying as you are able to get more money from this business and therefore can invest more time. The cause and effect is backwards. Final note, I would love more diverse polls as I got a whole laundry list of shows that I think they would enjoy that has no hope of winning, but ultimately it’s up to them and I’m fine with that. The way you started this thread sounded like a demand to change this specific poll into something you wanted, which rubbed some people the wrong way. If you instead said “for the next poll”, there probably would have been no issues.

The case with Studio Gek, they not only watch shonens, but they also make sure they're watching seinen. This not only helps attracts people in their 20s, but also people who are older (30s, 40s) and prefer to watch something with more matured writing. In a business, you want to diversified your customer base.

They could put out a poll for sci fi anime, and watch the recommended one. And most polls in these reaction channels do not represent the majority anyways. You might have a winning anime in a poll that has 30% of the votes, but that could mean up to 70% of people that didn't pick that one assuming a single vote system. In the React Pack channel, they're currently watching My Dress Up Darling which won in a poll. I've never seen that anime, but you had more people complaining about them reacting to a show with an oversexualized teenage girl that's "bouncing" around in a fanservice anime. Judging by these posts, there's not a lot of people watching their reactions to this show.

2024-10-15 17:22:45 +0000 UTCcool, nobody said they cant do the same. actually they even did that before, with dungeon meshi and kaiju no 8 for example, which they just watched because they wanted to. its their channel and they can do whatever they want, but dont try to alter polls, thats plain stupid. why even poll something if you exclude the majority of your audience right from the get go. usually they are watching like 5-6 anime at the same time, just take one of those slots and reserve it for whatever they want to watch and nobody would complain.

They only have so much time in their day and they probably want to allocate that time to optimize the amount of viewers they get, which is probably why they use a general popularity poll. Just because other people are doing it doesn’t mean it’s in their best interest to do so as well. Also, everyone thinks that their favorite reactor will think that their favorite show or genre is the most appealing. That point is moot. But let’s not act like it’s for the reactors sake that most people request for more specific polls. It’s because people want their more niche show to have a chance at winning. That’s it.

This is why I recommended in my comment to have a seinen poll to give shows that are overlooked by newer shows a chance, and to fight against recency bias. Other reaction channels have started doing this, and they are still doing very well with memberships.

I can see why they might like it.. the show requires a lot of thought and reflection and analysis. Which Wes and Steph excel at. Wes and Steph are already at the age where popular shonen anime may start becoming less appealing, and they may want to react to something with a more serious tone or something that's intellectually stimulating.
