Re:Zero S2 Episodes 3 & 4

I don't see anyone mention it so I will say it: When Subaru was summoned to this world, he tought of his parents, but quickly went with "Worrying about it won't do any good as I can't do anything about it". Well, the fact that he could just dismiss it like this is enough of escapist thing I think.

One more point, remember how in ova Rem said Subaru like mayo so much and filled the pool with it but here it is shown his parents like it while he doesn't. Maybe it shows he eats mayo in other world just for them?

Cursed Wings

The episode made me cry too, I'm unfortunately Subaru right now, just not doing enough, yet my parents love me and don't shame me. It's all my fault, and I'm trying hard to fix myself without the self hatred overpowering.

I couldn't imagine getting excited over a tea party. But Echidna is really intriguing. Also, what I think regarding Subaru's reaction when Echidna was brought up and him not knowing why he could enter the trial: Echidna said she'd make him do a vow as compensation, about not having him disclose what happened. So, going by his reaction, I don't think he remembered what happens at the tea party the moment he left. PS: The parent episode really made me cry. It hit home a little too close, because I had been in a similar situation as Subaru. Sometimes life just spirals out of control, and Subaru - and me- know that the ones to blame the most are ourselves. Not outside factors. Perhaps even that "smart" kid not-doctor you told about, will or even has realised that.

I've yet to do a sitting of watching this episode, whether it was the first time or the dozen reactions that followed, where I'm able to not cry to the parents episode. They're the best parents I've ever seen in fiction, and learning more about them through the author's Q&A sections was so painful. They seemed like real people and their struggles in parenthood are so special, rarely approached. As you mentioned, they were a happy family. They had a nice house, great personalities that fit together well, love was abundant and yet, the world and Subaru himself set pressure that they were unable to alleviate, despite their best efforts. The trust they had in their son to be able to stand back up... as Kenichi says "who would kick their own kid out, just because they're retreating in their shell", they really believed in him and gave him time to process whatever he was feeling. Naoko's take on the solution which ended up working is the sad truth, for a parent, to learn: it wasn't in their hands, even though they would have done anything to grant their child hope in his future again, it was in someone else's who wasn't, as she says, "your dad or myself". The fact that she then says "we should be grateful to them" hurts so much, as we know they'll never see Subaru again, and even less meet Emilia or Rem.

A funny touch with Subaru's room is that all the characters are actually real characters from other anime. The left poster was Julie Signtuna from Absolute Duo, and the right one was Toudou Kirin from The Asterisk War. They're both pretty mid anime, to be honest, but the light novels are probably alright. That being said, I do like both of the characters. My man Subaru has good taste in waifus.

To be honest you would be surprised how much you stick in someones mind I went off to London one time for a convention and one guy there after hearing my last name came up to me and was like are you (my dad's name) s kid I was a bit weirded out but was like yes turned out him and my dad attended the same one day training course from there jobs 30 years ago and he still remembered my dad good impreson so it was fine had a beer and a blether with him but it goes to show you never know who will remember even smaller interactions with you

This episode is the main reason I started thinking about becoming a parent someday. I've never seen a parent's love shown so perfectly pure. I had good parents, but unfortunately due to external events there's been so much friction in our relationships. Primarily that one statement this episode: "we didn't have you so you could owe us something, we had you to in order to give you something." I had many situations during my childhood and even into adulthood where my parents seemed to expect my siblings and I to give up something in order to receive love. I want nothing else than to have the opportunity to the opposite; give my everything for my family. Loved the reactions as always, it truly warms my heart to see parents so willing to learn from external sources all so that they can be the best parents possible for their kids.

You're totally okay I assumed too much within the moment, assuming the best 😅 They feel so despicable that it's almost like a caricature in a show you two would react to lol

Thank you for sharing your story ❤️❤️ medical school is incredibly challenging and I honestly can’t believe anyone can get through it. Any venom on my part is because this guy specifically is abusive physically and verbally to my best friend (his younger sister) and to his mom while also just being a condescending jerk to anyone who tries to talk to him. He was also kicked out of medical school for drunk driving. But despite poor life choices he thinks everyone else around him are idiots and treats us with no respect. One time a bunch of us were chatting and a girl who works at NASA came in and he goes “oh finally, someone smart I can talk to”. To me, it’s about how someone treats people, regardless of how smart they are. I’m sorry I didn’t say this better in the reaction.

Such good insight as always ❤️ I’m so sorry you had a different but similar experience with comparisons

It truly is perfectly done

In my mind, you guys are on par with other big youtubers, I discover new sides of anime I had watched. And I also think you guys are as great parents as Subaru's parent. Your kids will probably love you in your old ages and take care of you ❤ I wish them to grow to love anime so that one day they can watch your reaction videos, that would be so funny 😄

family moments are truly the greatest

Details from the books the 'tea' is made from her saliva Also Subaru couldn't remember cause of Echidnas magic before leaving The reason why roswall was so hurt is cause the trial grounds attacks people with their own gate meaning that the stronger your magic the more damage done

This is the best worldbuilding information that I am very upset to read

Tappei (the author) stated that after Subaru was sent to the Re:Zero world, his parents, worried about his safety called the police. This started a police investigation but no leads were found. So, his parents are very much alive and looking for any lead on their son but are heartbroken and depressed.

The story of going into medicine without effort in mind, pretty much exact parallel of my life. The feeling of cruising through without actually having to work for it - and then hitting that wall makes this ep special for me. I never actually learnt to work for anything, nothing was built. After bachelor's I essentially had two gap years of working, wondering what the hell to do now. Especially when the extended family doesn't understand how entry into medicine works, and calls me doctor despite only finishing the bachelor - it was a lot of pressure. I've moved on fortunately and I'm still in the medical field (not as a doctor). While I'm sure the person you know is probably an A-hole, I'm also sure bringing up anything related to their medical career also makes their heart sink like mine did every time - so I can only feel sympathy and hopefully they work through it eventually.

Something I learned recently in therapy is that when you praise your kids too much on external forces like how they look, what they contribute, things like that, they can develope a dialogue of "without this thing, I'm nothing. I'm not good enough if I can't keep doing that" and so the goal should be to praise them for the internal forces, like Stephanie's father praising her for trying, or praising for working hard (though you don't want to make them think taking a break is bad either) but ya, if you praise them for the things they can control, that is said to produce better mental health later on. But of course, like with Subaru's case, sometimes where your kids will get validation won't be from you, so the best you can do is be their trusted support. If I didn't have my mom fighting for my disabilities when I was too young to really understand them, then now as an adult, I would've never considered that it wasn't entirely my fault that I struggle in certain areas, and wouldn't have tried to find different avenues of learning around my ADHD. I would be more like my father and tell myself "it's not ok to ask for help because I should be a perfectly capable adult" or it would devolve into "well, I used to be smart, but now I'm just dumb" so even if it doesn't seem like for periods of time that you make a difference, trust me, you will at some point. 💜 also if you ever get really worried, family counseling is always good to go to early. If you wait until something needs fixed, then it just gets harder, but if you have the tools you need early on, then you can prevent anything from needing fixing, though I can't imagine what. You guys seem like amazing parents to me :3 I related a lot to Subaru in this episode and remember bawling the first time I watched it lol but in my case, it was both external and my father who kept making comparisons and even my mom constantly telling me I'm just like my father when my father isn't a good person in my eyes. I've always had to fight for approval until I just got too burnt out and started hiding away similarly. I took a lot of inspiration from this show on how I could potentially overcome my social anxiety, once I come out of my shell more

One thing I’ve noticed with a lot of isekai anime is that the concept of bringing a character from Earth to another world often is Lazily done. It’s usually just a way to make the main character a self-insert that viewers can relate to but it doesn’t go to the lengths of really exploring the main character That’s why I loved this episode. it actually finally brought up Subaru’s past life, using his backstory to perfectly explain his actions and mannerisms.

Sagi

The author answered at a Q & A what is going on with his parents and he said (paraphrasing): "They're dealing with the disappearance of their son tearfully. A missing report was sent and police investigation was done garnering no results. The dad is doing his best to support his wife emotionally which isn't going very well. They still hold out hope that they'll find their son." Truly a cruel and sad outcome for the family. Re:Zero manages to show the cruel brutal reality that being isekaied to another world won't solve your internal problems but will also cause unneccessary suffering on the loved ones you leave behind. Subaru truly has grown alot over the series. The beginning of the trial was Subaru without memories of the fantasy world, so that's how he would've been normally. After seeing Emilia is when his memories came back, and you got to see a massive shift in his person to show the difference from before and after. Seeing Subaru's past truly recontextualizes alot of his behavior in Season 1. Why he was so desperate to act a certain "eccentric" way to get the people in the mansion to like and accept him. Why he had such a massive hero complex which drove Emilia away after he screwed everything up and made a fool of himself. Wanting to be special and prove his worth. To prove that he's useful because deep down it all stemmed from hating himself and perceiving himself as worthless because of all his past trauma in the regular world, ON TOP of the trauma he has in the new fantasy world.
