Stein's;Gate Episode 2

Comments

I’m surprised you didn’t like Holden Caulfield from Catcher in the Rye (my eng professor dad doesn’t like him either LOL). I like him though! While he is a perfect example of unreliable narrator, I do believe that all of his ideas on everyone being “phony” is apparent through his trauma. His thought process and how he interacts with the world is a result of all the adults that failed him early in his life.

Maya

Naaah u guys did soo well thoo pls rewatch ur reaction like in private after finished the show lmao

Yuuto NN

Also ,unrelated but the BTS Universe is also so related to this hehe!

Vishwa Joshi

BTW John Titor was an actual guy on forums back in 2000 he was someone claiming he traveled back in time to stop a war. it isn't just exposition [idk if you guys knew that or not]

Kai Kage

daga otoko da

To be honest, a lot of the reason I am watching this series again with your reaction is to see if you guys were just as confused but intrigued as I was when I first saw it lol

Roy Mathew

Its very normal to be this confused early on. I've seen other reactors who tend to try overanalyze every little thing and confuse themselves even more. Also, the japanese have a word for the childish delusions that y'all are talking about: Chuunibyou.

nanitheheck

unpopular opinion, but its why I prefer the dub for SG for casual viewers. It has American pop references instead, so the comedy lands more.

Antonnn

This kind of eccetricities and quirkiness are very common for characters in “anime-style” media from that era. So when I first watched this show I totally just accepted all the quirkiness without much thinking. It is interesting to see how you guys, less influenced by anime culture from that era, will read so much more into it.

Yorutia

Had the same issue when i tried it years ago, at the 3rd time i gave it a try it became my favorite anime ever, the beginning might seem slow and confusing but its the type of show that welcomes a rewatch after you got all the context. Im loving so much your reactions and i hope you guys enjoy this show!

Artema

LOL you guys are disappointed in yourselves after the first ep reaction??? That was honestly an amazing one for people who've seen the series before. And that commenter was right, you guys are smart. Also watch the OP from here on out, no spoilers in it

Ryo

But by mentioning that John Titor is a "real" person, and they should look him up, you are saying that they are related because otherwise, why even mention it if they are not related (different people, or different backgrounds)? They are the kind of people that would prefer to go completely green when watching a new show. And they were probably going to read the Steins;Gate reference at the bottom of the wiki page anyways.

James

So you just added more certainty on the fact that the fiction and real life are related, great job at not reading or trying to understand what I said above.

Hayate

When you say otome game, are you referring to Steins;Gate or something else?

James

Yes, those cafe's are all over Akihabara lol they have maid cafes, butler cafes, cosplay cafes, cross-dress m2f and f2m cafes. There are more themed ones like a prison cafe, or more normal ones like cat cafes, lizard cafes, ect. Also I am just as confused as ya'll 😂 I'm even more confused how this was an otome game (my ex gave me the game but I couldn't get it to work)

Chels

It's not a spoiler unless they have already looked it up, and I'll assume they will not. Look under the section titled "Titor's posts" on the Wikipedia page for John Titor, and look under the 5th paragraph. There is information in that paragraph that is going to be reveal in the next episode, and will further be elaborated later in the season. Two paragraphs down from that one is an implicit spoiler. There's also information on that page that describes future events that mirror future events in the Steins;Gate anime. If you look towards the bottom of John Titor's Wikipedia page, it even mentions Steins;Gate in the "Popular culture" section.

James

Ahh I love u guy's reaction y'all are so entertaining I wish this was 2 episodes

elijah lew

It is a slow burn! Dont mind it! I think releasing 2 episode reactions at once would be more satisfying for you and the viewers, precisely because you have to keep things in memory. Only if it makes sense for you though Much love!

For how confused you guys are, its fascinating how correct you are. Won't tell you what tho 😂 For some context on the characters that the anime doesn't bring up: Okabe Rintaro (main protagonist) and Daru (computer guy) are 18 years old and fresh into college. The lecture they go to which we find out is being held by Kurisu (red head) is one of their college lectures. The story takes place during the summer break, which is why we don't see them going to said college except for that scene. Mayuri (tuturu girl childhood friend) and Luka (shrine son) are 16-17 year old high school students. The city setting of Steins Gate is Akihabara, which irl Japan is a city well known for its electronics and weeb anime otaku stores. Its the heart of otaku moe culture. So yeeah cat maid cafes like that exist in that city for real 😄 Steins Gate essentially is a love letter time capsle to otaku culture of that time with all the otaku references and meme jokes.. which will practically fly over many who aren't familiar. Basically what we can gather from this cast so far, everyone is weird and an otaku in their own way which is how they can brush off Okabe's weirdness. Faris is a cat maid girl, Mayuri is an otaku who likes making cosplay costumes, Daru is a typical otaku with his obsession with computers and degenerate anime stuff, and Okabe is a chuunibiyou (8th grade syndrom). In Japan its known as a phase commonly in young 12-14 year old boys who are going through an identity crisis of self awareness realizing they're a boy becoming a man.. which tends to come out through acting out a character to make themselves look more adult mature than everyone else or more special and cooler than they actually are. Its like imagine a 12 year kid finding out about the concept of sex for the first time. Its so mature, right? As a result you go around bragging about it and cracking dirty jokes every single sentence just cos you found out about something that kids shouldn't be aware of. Which makes you an adult, more cooler and mature than everyone else. Its an act to seem more mature and self important. Only to realize when you do become a matured adult how immature and childish you were being doing that 😂 So yeeah I'm glad you brought up that childish behavior in kids, cos yeeah that's literally what Okabe is doing. He's an 18 year old man who just hasn't outgrown that phase yet 😂

^this - episode 2 revealed every character thats seen in the opening

Rockycitygirl

its literally impossible to know whats going on this early in the show, just keep watching. things will make more sense later on, when you actually get some explanations and context

Rockycitygirl

Anyone that recommends Steins;Gate always says to watch at least until episode 12. It's super slow and confusing at the start. When I first watched it I dropped it because of that. But once you have enough info to piece things together, it just gets way too good!

INeedSleep

God this show is so bingeable!!! Next one please 🥺

Harrison

No it doesn't. Fiction and real life isn't necessarily related, unless you specifically point out that they are. By saying it's a spoiler, you have actually spoiled it. I think you should delete your post before they read it

Hayate

I was also not able to connect any dots in the beginning which is common among viewers watching the show for first time. You're going to be given more questions than answers in the beginning, but this what makes a show that is mystery-driven, and also unpredictable, interesting and fun to watch.

James

Looking up the real-life figure John Titor is going to spoil his specific mission for traveling back in time as well as some of what the future holds.

James

I think the reason why houin is so popular with women is because he is hung like a bull

Yang

A few non-spoiler info: - The anime skipped the Okabe/Kurisu debate on time travel. In the visual novel, she goes through 11 possible theories and how none of them work. That scene is like 40mn of dialogue so impossible to adapt for the anime - At 1:44, Daru says "That's Louise-chan's famous line!" which is a reference to Louise in the anime Zero no Tsukaima - John Titor is a "real" person, you can look up his wikipedia page. - SERN is also a real organization. It's the CERN, located in Switzerland. They named it SERN in the game/anime for the same reason they renamed Google to Goodle (easier for kids to not mix up real life and fiction). You can look it up too, many modern invention were created there (like the internet!) - Yes, Maid café are real "I don't feel like this is a good reaction guys" Don't worry too much about it. The anime is a lot of reference to the otaku and technophile culture so non-otaku don't have much to chew on the first few episodes. It will get better. I guess if you want more info faster, you can switch to a 2 episodes/week format,

Hayate

This is the kind of show that takes time to build up and without spoiling anything things will make much more sense as they go on so don't worry just take your time. It's a great show, easily one of the best.

Getsu

Watch the opening please.
