Re:Zero S2 Break Time Part 2

Comments

You guys should watch the greed what if by echidnut on YouTube

Joshua Moore

If you guys remember, a lot of the S2 episodes were a full 30 minutes long. This is because in S2, Re: Zero bought out its own ad space to run longer episodes! Most episodes also cut the opening and the ending for more time too! You can see why many of these scenes, while important and relevant, still had to be cut. They just didn't have enough run time to include everything. Steph makes an interesting observation about what Roswaal was trying to do with Elsa at the very start of the series. My personal theory is that he was blindly following the Gospel to bring Subaru to him, rather than trying to actually accomplish anything with killing Felt and Old Man Rom. He did something similar in S1. When Subaru questions Roswaal at the start of S2 about why he (Roswaal) was no where to be found during the witch's cult attack, Roswaal says he didn't get involved because he had faith Subaru would resolve everything perfectly, despite the fact he had no evidence to believe that was the case. I figure the first Elsa attack was similar. I think Roswaal knew Subaru would get involved and thwart Elsa's attack, meaning Emilia would bring him to the mansion. Wes articulated his perspective on the Elsa/Meylie scenes so well. We saw a bit of Elsa's past in S2, where as a young child she sliced the gut open of a man trying to take advantage of her, and his guts kept her warm in the freezing cold. Knowing that past really does make you feel like things could have been different. No kid should even be in a situation like that in the first place, much less feel like it must dictate their life going forwards. I do feel a little more pity for Meylie for the same reason, she's a young kid barely Petra's age. I feel its unfair to hold her fully accountable for the people she's killed, rather its on the adults around her who failed her. She really does seem like an ordinary kid in these break times, just whose life is on a dark path. I admit I'm biased because I'm studying to be a teacher, but I'd like to think that now that now that she's in the custody of Subaru and company, that she could be reformed. Maybe that's a little too naive. I'm sure I'll change my mind real quick if she ends up killing again. ๐Ÿ˜… I'm really gonna miss watching you guys react to Re: Zero every week. It was always so fun to hear your theories and observations, and you guys understood the characters so well! You paid a lot of attention, and even when things got confusing you were always able to get back on track. It was really such a pleasure to watch these week to week! I'm sure we'll be back for S4! EDIT: Oh one more week, nevermind! Looking forward to that!

As of season 3 Pride IF is mostly spoiler free as well as Greed If (? itโ€™s been awhile) while Wrath and Sloth have some cameos of characters that havenโ€™t been shown but Iโ€™d say would be fine to see, as it doesnโ€™t spoil anything (main) story wise but it would be up to them. Gluttony is completely off limits though, and Lust just isnโ€™t that interesting.

I love re;zero because it is a work full of content, in addition to everything you have seen, there are also several parallel stories written, and the "IFS".

Technically, you could also watch the re:zero IF stories, they have some 'spoilers' like certain characters that weren't introduced in the main story yet, but since the author released them as side content years ago then it seems reasonable to know that extra info even for anime onlys. Up to you guys.
