But yeah, when Fengxian got pregnant, gave birth, and ruined the brothel reputation, the madame forced her to sell herself on the streets to earn back money, or else the brothel wouldn't be able come back financially. Maomao hating Lakan, I believe, comes from the stories she's heard all her life with Lakan being the source of the problem. She probably feels he abandoned her, and him constantly trying to buy her out in those 14 or so years probably annoyed her on top of that. But at least, Maomao making the bet with Lakan to see if he would buy out her mum was a test and he passed it with flying colours. Also, your point about not many shows have characters who truly care for the main character aside from the leads? Weren't you guys watching Stein's Gate, Mob Psycho, Kaguya-sama?
