86 Episode 14

Comments

The anime doesn't mention it but shin and them were treated similarly by the other 86 , monsters of war that continue to flight without regard to how many of there comrades die

Dragons like Bananas

Two seat machines, always only have one pilot, the other person seating in the front/back/side of the pilot handle other aspects of the machine such as radar, weapon systems, navigation, etc. At least that's how it works on real life. Probably the advantage of having seats on the side to side is that you could override the other person controls in case something goes wrong

It is funny because I fell in love with how well Frederica's VA did for her voice. I personally think she did such a good job that she became one of my favorite voice actress. The English VA sounds like what you are describing.

Frederica and her voice annoy me... I dropped Spy x Family because of Anya. They don't even look like children, their VA is definitely adults distorting their voices, and it sounds really bad... It's like adults pretending to be children, which is so cringe

Rostislav

5:25 This is really subtle, but when Grethe says that all 575 are recorded here, Raiden looks over at Shin. This is because in episode 10, Shin told him there were 576 names.

Yup the Eintagsfiege just fly into the air intake of any airborne vehicle. In addition, the Legion have Anti-Air missile batteries set up all over the place. The Legion have complete air superiority but are restricted in their code from aerial bombardments themselves (along with a few other restrictions)

I'm glad that Wes picked up on and brought up the Giad Federacy was able to retake territory as we were shown with that touching memorial scene and Fido's return! I think it's important to keep this in mind that overall, the Federacy seems to be competent at war with the Legion. And I thought it was incredibly classy of the Federacy to build a memorial around the wrecked Juggernauts of Raiden, Theo, Kurena, and Anju plus Fido's "old body". 11:25 - To add to Wes' comment about the 86 early high attrition rate due to just not being able to pilot the Juggernauts effectively, I would say that is just part of it. There are several other factors that contribute to the 86 high death rate in the field: - The Republic would hardly have a decent training program for their oppressed war slaves. - Despite Republic propaganda to the contrary, the Juggernauts were not well built with constant descriptions of being "aluminum coffins" and having "weak legs". Plus we saw in the very first episode that Shin was able to take a chunk out of the hull with just his knife when he was cutting out Kujo's personal mark. That's pretty flimsy armor and would hardly protect one from small arms fire, never mind anything larger than a rifle round. - The 86 get near zero support other than the unit Handlers "phoning in" some meaningless commands (Lena excluded of course). Which is quite infuriating considering we saw how effective Lena's use (and continued use per EP 12 dialogue) of the Republic's mortar batteries were to help Shin and company. - The Legion units are just vastly superior in terms of armament, material quality, and numbers when compared to the Juggernaut equipped 86 of the Republic. That's part of the reason why anyone who survived more than a year of combat were granted "Personal Names" such as Undertaker. It takes a ton of skill and experience, plus even more luck to survive that long and those bad asses become heroes to the other 86. We know the elite unit Spearhead was completely made up of "Name Bearers" as they were called in the source material. Though we know the Republic thought they were too good and had to be culled. Other units may have one or two Name Bearers but the rest would have just general call signs like A-2, A-3, etc. (as we saw in EP 1 with Lena's old unit). Essentially cannon fodder...until they lived long enough to not be and got a Personal Name. So while Juggernaut piloting effectiveness can very much be a matter of talent of the individual 86, it would be hard to gauge how many that died were truly untalented given the other factors essentially stacking the deck against them. 25:36 - Great question from Steph about why not send bombers against the Legion. And Wes answered very astutely. It has been established the Legion are capable of radar jamming. And that's the role of the Eintagsfliege - those butterfly looking units. And we saw the Legion can field them in numbers that blanket the sky appearing like dark ominous clouds. So yeah, imagine trying to fly anything through that with the added handicap of no radar, while also needing to contend with Legion anti-air defense placements on the ground. Great reaction you two! RIP Eugene...our time together was short and you will be missed.
