lol Rick told his whole class to call him that so that's his official nickname. I'm pretty partial to the whole Alaric though. Matt's mom SUCKS. Can you even imagine? You show up, get wasted at a public charity event, give your son's girlfriend (the one who's actually been there) a verbal beatdown, and then seek emotional support from your son. Worst of all, completely blowing off the fact that your 16 year old daughter ran away? God, parent of the year right there. Damon is such a mess. He's the epitome of "hi, it's me, i'm the problem it's me." Quite literally the anti-hero story device. Well, his archetype kind of shifts. He's been pretty firmly in his anti-villain era (villain with sympathetic goal and appealing traits) and regularly migrates into anti-hero territory (end goals align with hero (protecting the town from violent rogue vampires) but methods and motivations aren't morally aligned). As you might imagine, he'll venture into other archetypes but I'll point those out later. We've gotten enough information by this point to assume the term "byronic" might come up though lol. For those of us who like Damon, I think that's part of the appeal. There's a complexity that DEFINITELY isn't something you'd look for in a real friend or partner but they tend to draw you in on screen. Stefan up to this point has been pretty steadily in the hero category, potentially a redeemed hero who's arc has already completed off-screen (purely by nature of being a moral vampire, not to imply any backstory). I think Stefan stans tend to get a little hung up on traditional audience sentiment about heroes and villains. But supernatural drama/romance doesn't play by normal rules. It's how you can be a Damon stan even while he does crap like this. I'm with you, Blake!
