About My First Novel: Scions of the Divine

Synopsis:

Many years ago, the world was graced with the presence of gods and goddesses that made living a mortal life easy and fun. However, that's not the case anymore, as a series of events has left the world without a divine presence for hundreds of years. With very few people being able to use magic, mortals turned to industrialization and technology to simulate the functions of the deities the best that they can.

Follow the story of a young man who's already getting sick of how bland it can be inside of this modern industrial world when he suddenly receives divine power. With this change comes tough decisions, passionate romance, heartbreak, and so much more! Decide how these powers should be used and slowly change the world, for better or worse, but be wary; there are other Scions receiving divine power, each with their own ambitions!

What to Expect:

• A story rich with lore and driven by the characters.

Each character is being carefully designed with their own personalities. With 6 different love interests to pursue and several side characters to fill the gaps, there should be more than enough for you to find what you're looking for. Even the main character has his own problems for you to discover and decide how to handle!

• A stylized karma system.

What kind of god would you be if you had divine powers? With the unique karma system you can choose to be Benevolent, Malevolent, or somewhere in between (Ambivalent).

• Choice based progression with multiple routes and endings.

Using the above described system, you can play the way that you want to with choices that actually matter. Since each character has been made distinctly, the choices you make can and will affect each of them in different ways. Some of them might approve if you become an all-conquering and vengeful god, while others would prefer that you take more of a gentle and kind approach. Each choice will slowly build to several distinct endings for the main plot and each of the important characters.

• Custom UI that fits the usual Ren'Py flavor.

The UI will be stylized, but only slightly. Changing enough to be unique whilst keeping the essentials where you're used to them being. This means that the only menus you'll have to learn, if you're familiar with Ren'Py VNs, are the ones that have been designed as completely new additions in order to suit my needs for the project, like character profiles. (More on this system will come in the future.)

• No mods necessary!

Well, almost. There will always be something that you might want to change, but I've got the basics covered for you! Have you ever played a game that has a convoluted plot with branching routes and a story that you love, but you didn't want to play it over and over again just to absorb all that it has to offer? Yes? Me too.

Typically you'd have to wait for a mod to be made or use the universal Ren'Py mod, and you may still have to in some cases. However, I've implemented a built-in menu that will let you change all of the important stats for every character that has them! Made a bad choice and don't like the outcome, but forgot to save? Open the menu, find the toggle, and change it! Thought you wanted to be Malevolent, but had a change of heart and aren't getting enough choices to change your alignment quickly enough? There's a slider in the menu for that!

Disclaimer: This menu affects things that make a difference in how my carefully designed story plays out. If you change too many things at once, or something that is really important, you can and will get inconsistencies in the way the story unfolds. Use it responsibly! However, it won't cause errors or crashes, and if you get one from using it, please report it to me with the log so it can be fixed.

Alternatively, you can turn on Walkthrough Mode right from the settings menu and make the choice that's right for you the first time around! This will make it so that every choice will display with what stats and what characters you will affect when making a choice. There will sometimes even be additional information, like scenes that will be unlocked. I recommend playing with this turned off for your first playthrough, but to each their own. Enjoy it how you want to!
