After being sent off to be reincarnated by the goddess, I found myself adrift in the darkness, until I saw a ray of light. I used all of my willpower to reach that light. Though once I did, I could no longer control my body.
I couldn’t help but scream over and over again, as my eyes adjusted to the brightness of the area.
“Congratulations it’s a girl,” I heard a male voice say, as I felt myself get put into a warm embrace. “She will make a most useful member of the tribe.”
“Pathetic, if only they were born male,” said another male voice I should have expected that this would happen when I was forced to mate with a mixed race.”
I didn’t know what was going on, but my eyes started to adjust enough to where I could see the figures of the people before me. Was the man insulting me, my father? What did he mean by mixed-race? And what the heck did they say about me being a girl?
“Waahhh! Wahhhh!” all I could do why cry out in frustration, unable to voice my concerns. I was just born, there was nothing that I could do. When she told me that I would be reincarnated I never thought that I had to start from stage one. I thought that I would at least get to start as a toddler or something. This was sad.
“I am sorry,” I heard a female voice that sounded as if she was close. Was this my mother? She sounded like she was a kind and sweet person. Back in my previous life, I didn’t have parents, since they abandoned me when I was born. I hope that this life will be different.
“I’ll do better next time,” the woman said. “I promise that I will produce a strong warrior for you. Just please give me another chance! Don’t abandon me or our child!” she sounded distressed, what was going on? Why was it such a big deal that I was born a girl? Personally, I would have liked to be a guy myself, but having my new father abandon me for that reason was ridiculous.
“You call that thing my child?” the man said, sounding angry. “She may have come from you, but I refuse to acknowledge her as my child if she is not male. Be grateful that I am letting you live.”
“Wait please don’t go! The rest of the village will shun us!” the woman yelled in fear.
As the man left my eyes finally adjusted, but all I was able to see was the tattered shirt on his back. On the day of my birth, I was abandoned by my own father again.
“Waaahhhh! Waaahhhh!” I couldn’t hold myself back from crying. In my current form, my emotions were much harder to control than when I was an adult.
“Hush, now child, mommy is here,” my mother said, hushing me and rocking me back and forth in her arms. I slowly began to stop crying. The sound of her voice and the warmth I felt as she embraced me made me feel safe.
From my angle, I couldn’t quite see my mother's face, but I could tell that she had dark green hair, and for some reason, her skin looked green. Was there something wrong with my eyes or the lighting around this area? I couldn’t move my body properly at the moment since was just born, so I couldn’t check. Perhaps it was just my eyes. I was never this lucid during my first birth, so a bit of discoloration might be normal right?
“Sister, we have failed,” the other male voice said. I couldn’t see him, but I could tell that he was close by. “Bearing him a child should have solved all of our worries, but he went back on the deal just because you didn’t bare him a son. We were foolish to trust him.”
“I am most sorry brother, I failed you,” my mother said to the man who must be my uncle. To think that my child would be abandoned by her father the day she was born. He didn’t even honor her with a name. Soon the whole village will know of my failure.”
“Brother there is still time for you to save yourself. Since you didn’t inherit any of mother's qualities like me or my child there is a chance that you can still run off to another clan,” mother said. “There is no need to tie yourself down to me.”
“I will not abandon my sister and niece in their time in need,” my uncle said, giving me a reason for me to have a lot more respect for him. “Mother taught us to stay by each other’s side no matter what. From today on the two of you shall stay at my home. While it isn’t the best, it will provide you an adequate place to raise your daughter.”
“Abu ada.” My mouth started to make some random noises which seemed to grab my mother’s and uncle’s attention.
“Oh, my she must be hungry, even in times like this I cannot forget to feed her,” my mother said, and then seconds later I found myself suckling as I began to drink milk. I was embarrassed that I was doing it without any worry, but I knew that for a while there would be things out of my control.
“Since her father decided to not gift her a name, have you decided on one for her instead?” my uncle asked my mother.
“I have,” my mother said. I could feel her warm gaze look down upon me. “I never actually thought that I would get to use it. From today forth your name shall be Illya, my precious daughter.”
“Illya, isn’t that mother’s name?” my uncle asked her. “The others won’t like that you named her that. It’s not a traditional name.”
“I don’t care,” my mother said. “I loved our mother's name, and I want there to be someone to inherit it, and who better than her own granddaughter.”
“If only she could be here to tell you that you're making a foolish mistake,” my uncle said to her, in what sounded like a joking manner.
“Yeah, mother was strict, but kind as well. I hope that I’ll be able to be a mother just like her,” my mother said back in a sweet tone.
“By not abandoning your child, you already are,” my uncle said supporting her.
“Would like you to hold her?” my mother asked as I stopped sulking for milk. “I’m pretty sure that this young lady would like to meet her uncle.”
“If I may,” I heard my uncle say, but my mother lifted me up and then put me in his arms. For some reason his hands felt cold, his skin felt lumpy, and he had really long fingernails. When he finally lifted me up high enough to see his face, I realized why my mother's skin was green. I wasn’t reincarnated as an elf, dwarf, or any other kind of humanoid creator. I was reincarnated into a goblin girl!
