Hard drive crash

Greetings Patrons,

I thought i was being so clever by replacing the hard drives in my Synology NAS! However, As I was replacing drive 1, drive 4 decided it would be a great time to go belly up! Thus, 2 drives down means the volume is crashed and inaccessible. I have various backups so I don't think the loss is catastrophic, but it will take some time to rebuild. This is my main dev machine/server so while I wait with crossed fingers for Synology to walk me through this (or give me the bad news) I can't do much in the way of development.

I was in the middle of working on a new SoundPad when this happened so the code part of it is all stuck on the dead machine for now. My hopes for getting this out to you this week are apparently not happening.

Just wanted to keep everyone posted. Thanks all for the support!

Best,

Tim

Uhhhh :( Good Luck

You might consider RAID 10 or 60 if redundancy is your primary concern.

Good luck!

Damn! I'm sorry about the drive. My whole computer died a few months ago, but it was all backed up, so no losses. We can wait, buddy, and your work is worth that wait. When you get back up to speed we'll still be here. }:-)

Fair Winds and Calm Seas from here on my friend! What you're doing is fantastic!

Good Luck! I hope things start going smoother for you.

So sorry to hear that Tim. Losing a hard drive, let alone an entire storage array is heartbreaking. Hoping you're able to recover all of your hard work!

Hapless Heroes

Ouch, that sucks. I've lost photos from a period taking years due to series of hd/computer crashes and mismanaging backups, hopefully your backups are really in better state... Excited to hear there's a new soundpad coming sometimes in future!

Antti Lusila

Aw, that sucks! Good luck! Also, why don't put the code bit on github, gitlab, or similar services?

Kyrre Havik

Been there and it’s sucks, good luck!

You were being clever! Proper maintenance of your NAS is a good thing to keep in the top priorities. Nevertheless, you just happen to roll three 1 on three d20 xD. I hope everything sorts out eventually.

You do a tremendous amount of work for all of us fans. No one is going to be upset by this. Good luck getting everything back up, but don't stress over it. We'll all enjoy the new soundpad just as much in a month as we would have this week.

Eternityshard

Sorry to hear that. Thank you for keeping us in the know, though! Hope it all goes smooth for you and you don't lose too much of your time and effort, sir. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication.

Shit happended Tim ! Things like that obviously hurt... but dont beat yourself too hard ! I love your tools and what you do for the tabletop gaming community, like many others ;) Good luck for the incoming pain-in-the-ass work ;)
