That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Goblin Girl Chapter 19

On the other side of the doors was a hoard of people, dressed in fancy clothes. They all looked like nobles, and I could feel them staring in my direction. There was no way that I could be a princess, I was just a goblin. There was just no way.

“Lord Vst, we have arrived,” Sara said elegantly, bowing to my… grandfather.

“You both look lovely~,” he said to us, before taking me into his arms and turning around to face the crowd.

“Duke Vst, what is the meaning of this!”

“Is that Lady Sara’s daughter!”

“Who is she!”

The entire room was in an uproar because of my sudden appearance, and to be honest, I wanted answers myself. A goblin and a princess? How was he going to explain this?

“Quiet!” he yelled, silencing everyone else in the room. Despite being one of the oldest people here, his voice carried as far as a man in his twenties. “She is my great-granddaughter and the heir to the house of Vst! You will show her your respect!”

Everyone around the room looked stunned at what they just heard, and it was hard to blame them. Suddenly out of nowhere introduced me as his great-granddaughter. It was insane.

“Duke Vst, I apologize for sounding rude beforehand, but I must say that I find what you have to say hard to believe,” a man as old as my grandfather said, stepping out from the crowd. “You invite us all here on the notion of it being a party, yet you fail to describe what for. And then, once we get her, you announce that the baby in your hands is none other than your great-granddaughter.” He was rude by calling my grandfather out, but I couldn’t deny his logic. It was weird that everyone else remained silent, during this time.

“Yet the fact remains that when your only child Illya Vst at the age of eighteen, disappeared and has not been seen in over twenty years. How can you say that she is your great-granddaughter? It would have been more believable for you to call her your granddaughter or even Lady Sara’s child.”

“You doubt my words Count ….?”

“Sir, I just find it hard to believe. To have a great-granddaughter right now seems suspicious. Perhaps she is a girl that you are adopting?” Despite how his words sounded, he was right. There was no way to prove that I was actually his great-granddaughter. For all I knew, this could have been just some sort of mistake.

“Count, she is indeed my great-granddaughter. This should be more than enough proof,” he said, lifting up my mother's necklace for the count to see. “This necklace belongs to my daughter and then hers, and now it belongs to her, my great-granddaughter.”

“Sir, that necklace could have been stolen, nor can it be proven to be real. Please, this charade has gone on long enough. Please tell us the truth.”

“It can. The pendant in the necklace was enchanted, only allowing those of the Vst family to wear it around their necks. If you still wish to debate her legitimacy, then please do so.” My grandfather felt intimidated right now. No one in the room spoke once they heard about the necklace being enchanted. Was he telling the truth?”

“I understand. My worries were for not,” the count said, retracting his statement. “Though pardon my rudeness, does her arrival alone mean that…”

“Yes, Illya has arrived alone, but this is not a day to mourn. Today is a day to celebrate, for today we have come to celebrate my lovely granddaughter's return to us and her first birthday!”

Birthday? We’re they really celebrating my first birthday again, because of what Sara saw last time? In my old life, no one ever cared when it was my birthday. To them, it was just another day, and the same went for me. It was just there. No one’s even gone half this far to celebrate my birthday before.

“Now, Illya, you sit next to grandpa, while the guests come and greet us.” My grandfather sat down and placed me down into a fluffy chair that I started to sink into upon contact. Perhaps there was a thing as too much fluff?

“My lord, please forgive my arrogance earlier,” Count Balm said to my grandfather, being the first of many that had lined up to see me, even though second before they were questioning my legitimacy. “I had only wished to make sure, after what happened last time.”

“No, you are not in the wrong,” my grandfather said, sounding as if he was talking o an old friend now. “If no one would have stepped up to ask, then that meant they did not care. I shall inform you of the rest upon a later date.”

“As you wish, and may I say, young miss, you look like the spitting image of your grandmother. It is my pleasure to meet you on this day. Happy birthday.” The count words were soft and sweet, sounding like a dotting grandfather. Perhaps I misjudged him too fast.

“Greeting Lord Vst and Miss Illya. As you said, this is truly a momentous day,” a tubby-blading man said, dabbing the sweat from his forehead. “If you would have informed us that today was to be a birthday party, I would have brought the young miss a diamond-encrusted gold rattle." A gold rattle? How was a baby supposed to use that when they couldn’t even lift it?

“Thank you for your most generous offer, Baron Trede. Though I am afraid that Illya is a tad bit young to play with something that heavy,” my grandfather said to him, sounding as if he didn’t like this tubby man very much.

“That is unfortunate,” he said back to my grandfather. “Though I just happen to have a two-year-old son that could possibly lift it for her~.” What? Why was he trying to force me to play with his kids now?

“I’m afraid that I have to decline for now,” my grandfather said to him. “Illya is still too young to need a playmate, and I’m afraid that a foolish mistake would happen if I were to let her interact with other children at this time.”

“Well, it is unfortunate that she lacks proper manners, but she is a child, so, there is no fault in that,” the lord said smiling arrogantly at me. What was his problem? Was he trying to start a fight with a baby?

“Baron Trede, I’m afraid that you misunderstood my words,” my grandfather said, sounding a tad bit ticked off. “I never said that there was a fault with my own granddaughter. In fact, I’m trying to keep your foolish son away from her. I have heard rumors of him, and I have to say I am not impressed. Next time you suggest that you want your son to be someone’s playmate, then you best properly educate him.”

“Indeed, you are right, Lord Vst. How foolish of me to think that the young princess held any faults.” The tubby man looked pissed off, but I didn’t care. He was quite rude, and I didn’t like him one bit.

For the next hour, I was stuck in my chair as people came to greet me and promised me presents that no baby could use. Each one of them tried to form a connection with me, but my grandfather denied each proposal given to him. It would seem that he wanted to do his best to keep me as close as possible. Though, to be honest, I was starting to get antsy. I needed to move around.

“Thank you for being patient,” my great-grandfather said to me, patting me on the head. “There are just a few more to go before we can have some cake” Now that I wouldn’t mind. Ever since being reincarnated, it’s only been mush and milk until now. Hopefully, it would taste the way that I remember it.

“Careful, you’re drooling,” he said, gently wiping my mouth off. “Now let’s-”

“Uncle, what is the meaning of this!!!” A man in his mid-thirties yelled, storming his way over to us.

“Damien, calm yourself. You’ll end up scaring her,” my grandfather said, picking me up and placing me into his lap. Based on his tone, it didn’t seem that they got along.

“Calm myself? Are you insane? How dare you say that to me after bringing this thing here and claiming her to be your heir!” Damien was furious, staring daggers at me as he yelled. “There is no way that she is related to Illya! Illya is dead! I confirmed it!”

“Damien, you shall not speak ill of her grandmother, my daughter, in such a manner. The necklace is more than enough proof. She is the true heir to the duchy.”

“This thing proves nothing!” he yelled, ripping both of my necklaces off and throwing them to the ground.

“Ahhhhhh~!!!” The moment the necklace Lilith gave me, left my neck, I screamed. My body felt weaker, and I couldn’t help myself from crying. “Wahhhh! Wahhh!”

“Look! Do you really think that a child like this has the right to inherit the duchy? That title belongs to me! It be-”

SMACK!

With a resounding sound, Sara smacked Damien across the face. “How dare you insult the heir of the duchy?”

“…Sister. Just because you denounced your claim and offered your sword to protect the duchy, do you really think that you can get away with what you just did? I will have your head!” Damien yelled, revealing their connection with one another.

“Damien.” All grandfather had to do was say his name, and that was more than enough to shut him up. Grandfather had managed to calm me down, bouncing me on his knee, but I still felt sick. The small amount of mana in the necklace was helping me function.

“You must think that I’m deaf or senile. Why else would you act like this in front of Illya and me? While she may be a baby, her claim is greater than yours.”

“You can’t be serious! I have spent years proving my capabilities to you, and now you’re going to toss me aside for this thing that clearly isn’t even human! Are you saying that your precious daughter slept with a creature that wasn’t human? What is she, a goblin?”

Damien tried to grab me out of my grandfather's lap, but before he could, he stopped, seeing that Sara had a blade to his neck. “So it’s really going to be like this. Uncle, you can’t treat me like this! None of your vassals will agree to her becoming the heir.” Damien started to sweat, but he didn’t back down. "She has nothing to show for herself! She shouldn’t even exit!”

“Hmm, to think that the former heir of Vst would hold himself up like this. And to start a fight with a child, you are only hurting yourself,” a blonde-haired man, said, walking up from behind Damien, causing Sara to lower her blade and step back.

“Who the hell just said that!?” Damien turned around, looking as if he was going to attack the blonde-haired man standing in front of him, but for some reason, I could see the color drain from his face the moment he got a proper look at the blonde-haired man.

“Y-your majesty!?”
