Actually it was Fathers species that moved them and it was Kallhir (hope it's spelled correctly) that said the night beasts are a new threat and natives became vicious. Father wanted to speak with the Asmundr pack first before he moved them but had yet to return. But I do agree that there is some disconnect between Rohgir and Father

I don't think the sky gods are worried about a gene pool, they don't seem too worried about the ability to reproduce without inbreeding. Which of course makes me wonder about who and how the sky gods used to create them, if they needed outside DNA at all

JackalHackal

...and while you do have a point, Roghir...you are about to form your tribe into something that could be even worse than the dogs you despite. A species, raised to believe they are superior, they are something special and better then any other intelligent life form will most likely harm or suppress all the others. The MT also thought their way is fine as it is, that they had no choice and that their tribe is extremely powerful. Now hear me, I don't compare these two, just saying that a superior complex isn't something to take easy, especially since Roghir seems to think, being the first generation makes him more special. Like CorruptAngel already said, on earth, the shield wolves earned their reputation. Here, the Akis could easily impress the other tribes, being immune against the Nightbeasts as they wouldn't attack them. I could see them, acting as guards in any tribes/leading travelers etc. They truly could become the guardians the shield wolves should have been. Of course I get it, they need to grow in numbers, however the skygods easily could help them with that, plus mixing the species could help them too, considering Akiulfrs are dominant and I am sure the sky gods could tell Roghir. And even if that what Roghir said was true, the truth would protect the Akis more. Now they are unhappy, but telling them the true history, that their ancestors were feared and the dogs on the main island turned their back on the gods, that their only save haven is here, it could help them to understand that this isolation truly is needed, at least for now. Last but not least it's kinda the fault of the skygods too, they even gave the Asmundr pack a bigger territory. They could have done the same for the Akis or even merge both packs as most of the Asmundrs already have a mate and the ones who don't, well...you could have talk to them or even accept some hybrids, as they could provide to a healthy gen pool. Just my two cents.

Kuni

"The others know about our existence." How does he know this? Seemed like Kargo and Ferah had no idea about Akiulfrs, and so far haven't heard any of the other dogs mention dogs with long fangs and glowing heads.

Octarines

I had one interesting thought about Matriarch. It's said on this page, that all tribes know about Aki. But how could they know, if they're separated by the sea? And if Matriarch herself knows about it.. and nobody knows who the Matriarch is - can she be a sky god, for example? then she'll certainly be aware about arriving earth dogs and akis too.

If rhogir could get off of his high horse for a while I think he would see that if anything they should try and establish maybe the territory around the portal as a safe place. Not only would this help in feeding the tribe but he could also allow controlled interactions with traveling dogs or cats. And as far as introducing the akis into the aedran packs or just generally society in pretty sure once the dogs find out that they are basically walking ghoul repellant and b incredibly strong I'm sure they would be willing to give them a chance. Call it shallow but we saw this way of thinking reflected in the whisper vale tribe. They don't need more mouths to feed that can't contribute. And that's understandable. Besides if the dogs have lost their faith why not use devoted members like his priest to see if they could be reintroduced to the believe? Really the akis could do so much good not just for themselves but for life on aedra in general that it's just foolish to not want to be part of it. And yeah the breed needing to be established further makes sense but right now he's driving them towards being unhealthy mentally and perhaps physically, cause dances are nice and all but not being able to roam and explore seems to hit them hard.

Apologies for a second comment, but I had a few other thoughts that I didn’t want to add to my already-long original comment. I see people are questioning how Rohgir knows that the other species know of the Akiulfr’s existence, and don’t approve of it... honestly, when I first read that, all I could think about were the Matriarch and her Guilds, as they apparently know of all existing tribes on Aedra, and visit them so as to gather records about them... as soon as we learned this, I always wondered if this applies to the Origin Orion Tribe, as well. I had always doubted it, though, as I couldn’t see how this would be possible; the only way is if they knew of the gateway that Jahla went through, which, I suppose that’s a possibility... but I still have my doubts. It is interesting to think about though. Especially if Rhov *does* end up joining Nordulv’s guild, as they travel to the tribes in the north... if they do, indeed, know about the Akiulfr, this could include the Origin Orion Tribe, and thus, Rhov could possibly be reunited with Jahla... On another note (and slightly off topic), I still wonder about those glowing blue pawprints we saw, in the beginning of the comic, after Jahla, Rhov, Zilas, and Ronja were chased by night beasts. I have a feeling they were connected to the Akiulfr, in some way, and I hope we’ll soon get an official explanation for them. ^^

Well, I can’t believe I’m saying this, but Rohgir does have a point. It’s very possible that the dogs could see the Akiulfr as an invading species, and try to exterminate them, much like they did the Liulfr on Earth. The difference is, of course, that in that situation, the Liulfr were hostile, and were attacking the dogs *first* (Rhion’s pack); the dogs had no choice but to try to defend themselves. In this case, I don’t believe the Akiulfr would be hostile... for the most part, anyway. As Thakir has said, each wolf is an individual, with different personalities... I am reminded of Tharia, when she was particularly rough with Jahla during the hunt; and, something else to think about, Rohgir obviously has a superiority complex, and has been spreading it to his tribe, by twisting the truth about what happened in Asmundr, and lying about their purpose... it really wouldn’t surprise me if at least some of the Akiulfr also think like he does (having never been taught anything else), and would try to, uh... “replace” the dogs. But, as someone else pointed out, the dogs aren’t weak, no matter what Rohgir thinks; they’re not as physically strong as the Akiulfr, sure, but physical strength isn’t everything. They are smart, resourceful, spirited. They could defend themselves if the Akiulfr attacked. And vice versa. The dogs also know the land better, having grown up there, been taught to survive there, despite its dangers; the Akiulfr have been isolated on this completely safe island, all their lives. For these reasons, regardless of their superior physical strength, I do believe the Akiulfr would be at a disadvantage, if there were to be a fight with the dogs. Something else I thought about is that all tribes may possibly band together, putting aside their differences in order to work together to defeat the new “threat”. This would obviously lead to losses of numbers, on all sides, and the results could be devastating, especially for the Akiulfr, a species still in its development... so, in short, I agree with Rohgir on THIS point, but not on anything else (twisting the truth about what happened in Asmundr, calling the dogs a weak species that needs to be replaced, and, last but not least, physically *striking* his sister; I was glad to see her actually fight back); but, at any rate, I do agree with Thakir that, for the sake of the tribe’s well-being, *something* needs to change. I just don’t think a full introduction of the Akiulfr on Aedra is the right solution, at least not right now... but, maybe a few could go, at a time, to a protected location? Maybe a visit to Kainan’s pack, in the South? Khellir did ask Kainan if the Sky Gods could relocate any of the future Earth dogs there, where they could be properly taught to survive in Aedra, in a protected environment, before going out on their own... this seems like a good first step for the Akiulfr’s introduction to other species too. Furthermore, let us not forget that, unlike the majority of the Aedra dogs (as Rohgir points out), the Asmundr pack still believes in the gods, they still have faith in them; for this reason, it’s likely that they will spread this faith to the newly-arrived Earth dogs too. This would also be a good thing, for the Akiulfr. The only thing I could see wrong with this idea is the obvious: Rohgir has lied to the Akiulfr about what happened on Earth, regarding their species... while Kainan’s pack obviously knows the true story, as they are the true conquerors of the Liulfr plague. If the Akiulfr learned of this (and likely they would, being in direct contact with them), the resulting reaction probably wouldn’t be good, to say the least. Not to mention that no one actually knows of the Asmundr pack’s current location; it’s why Jahla has decided to remain with the Origin Orion Tribe, in the first place. So, *if* this was to happen, the Akiulfr would definitely need some kind of intervention from the Sky Gods, or maybe even Father, himself. All of this is interesting to think about, at least to me.

CorruptAngel

Oh! I thought it was Jahla who was bitten. Way to go warrior!

Spiritstrike

I think someone needs to over throw rohgir I love him but he needs to get off his high horse for a while.

I wouldn’t exactly say that remember the akiulfr don’t exactly look like regular dogs they’re large with long fangs and so the tribes may fear them and see them as a threat that’s why they get the reaction cause they’re different but they have to show the others they don’t mean no harm but with him as leader I don’t think that’s going be possible

Hmmm... I don't trust what Rohgir's saying, and with good reason! I can understand wanting to keep the bloodlines pure, and prevent crossbreeding with other dogs, but this isn't how you go about doing it! Thakir flat out told Rohgir why keeping the tribe secluded on the island isn't sustainable, and that why they need to be able to roam and discover themselves. And in the same breath, Rohgir says that they have to remain together to keep the bloodline pure, but also that none of them will ever be safe if they set foot off the island, due to the fact that the other dogs have lost their way due to no longer believing in the gods. And because the other dogs wouldn't approve of their existence. It almost sounds like he has no plans to ever let them off the island, even after their numbers increase, what with his whole "we all have to push our personal needs aside and think of our future as a species" schtick. I'm glad that Thakir's expression in panel 5 seems disapproving, and I can't help wondering where things will go from here. Is the way Rohgir's leading the tribe really part of the sky gods' plan? And how much, if any, of what Rohgir's saying is the truth? I'm excited to see where things go, as well as wondering how Jahla and Thakir will be able to improve the well-being of the tribe...

Icecat45

I know that merging of the two, will be nothing but disastrous. I really don't think the comma is necessary here. I had to read it a couple times to understand. It's a lovely page though. :)

Superrad1337

We know rhogir traveled around some and if he was visiting the old asmundr territory then he's most likely basing his opinion of the others on the nearby meteors. Because so far those were the only ones we saw who were discriminating. Every other tribe we've seen so far seems to favor equality. Just look at the guild. They employ big and small breeds, male and female so as far as we know his point is invalid.

Zsero

Go Jahla! YOU are the wolf of battle! And Origin Orion is really a sacred cult...And you're not much better Rohgir as YOU see yourself above all others. I fear that if you continue with this, the Aki's are chained by depression, just like the Liulfrs was chained by chains. This will NOT lead to good in the othe end as they are living feeling beings!

Tora Collita

She sure did. And I love that Thakir addressed his commentary looking at Roghir since he started it

JackalHackal

Yes, good boy, Thakir

JackalHackal

"The others know of our existence, and they do not approve of it." Does this mean they've possibly tried introducing them to others or is that just a reference to Ravencrest Tribe? As in maybe when they're tried contact? 🤔

Skittles

She sure does

JackalHackal

How does Roghir know these things. Father only recently relocated the Asmundr pack, telling them that he didn't realize the natives had become so aggressive. Roghir acts like he's known this all along, or he's just pretending that he does to use as justification to keep everyone together. But still it doesn't make a lot of sense. Normal dogs get by with tribal walls, fire and weapons, why couldn't they? No doubt the sky gods could help them, why not build a shield like they did for the Asmundr dogs when they first got there? There appears to be some disconnect between Father and Roghir, one of them is two faced and personally I think Jahla is right when she says it's Roghir that can't be trusted. How do the other's know, I wonder? Is it the Raven tribe on the other side of the channel that they howl to? How does he know they disapprove beyond the assumption he could make because most of them don't like the gods? A lot of questions just from this conversation. Also I still pity Roghir in that he hasn't had a chance to know better. His superiority complex has gone unchecked but it's the role he was built into with the structure and guidelines he has been given. I would love to see growth from him to become peaceful and knowledgeable about ALL species. That would be really great

JackalHackal

If you also look at the website, the Akiulfr is pretty scary in the aspect that they would dominate and be able to adapt pretty much anywhere. My thought is that once they are introduced, it'll be like a mirror on the Liulfr and be seen as a threat which is why Rohgio wants to have a good number first before setting out. And I believe he wants to do that as if in case war should rise, they will be ready °^° But that's just my thought on why he seems so worried

Skittles

Glad im not the only one to think Jahla looks like her dad in 2nd panel. Shes beautiful.

Viktor

Wasn't sure about Thakir at first, but he's really grown on me now.

Man, Jahla really reminds me of her old man in the second panel

Skittles

Yea girl! Also... I feel these guys are bigger & stronger than normal dogs, what is he so worried about?!

Dreamer

Go Jahla!! Kick his butt!
