Yep, they might not now that but I am pretty sure burning them will save them in that way, so I am glad they do. Wouldn't want Vandi to see her dead husband as a night beast, really.

Kuni

Fjordor never burned the body of his mate, hence why his daughters left because they couldn't take seeing her as a ghoul. This is the first time Roamer hears about cremation. And there's been no proof yet that burning the body prevents that fate, the MT never specified that they believe a burning prevents one from being turned into a ghoul, only that the spirit is freed (:

Kique Nordin

For everyone calling the "it make no sense because night beasts -insert more-" : it was mentioned countless times that night beasts are //new// on Aedra. It's then extremely normal that preventing their "spawning" is not strongly rooted in Aedra's dogs culture.

Viktor

Is Alva just watching Akleja? I noticed she’s not here. It seems probable since she is ranked caretaker, and obviously Vandi wants to be present for her mate’s funeral.

Skybird

Kind of surprised Roamer even had to ask about the bodies being burned after Fjordor's story about his mate... you would think it would be a more common practice on Aedra. Night Beasts are no joke. xD

I know. I loved Jonna up until around that point and she never redeemed herself to me after, even starting unnecessary drama with the males after Ronja gave everyone equal rights. I wish she'd had a little more screen time to make her death have more of an impact... I think a lot of it comes from the skipped conversation between her and Ronja way back.

Hannah P

I'm really hoping that this will save them from becoming night beasts. I feel like all ghouls so far were just killed, their bodies falling prey to others who maybe then turn them into it? So what if there's no body...? I'm with you on that, hoping they won't rise again ^^

So, I'm sad to see Jonna and Fuss go since I think they were great characters, but lets not forget that Jonna was also a rather dark character. Yes, maybe what Ronja said was true but she also never knew about Jonna's plans to sacrifice her to a dark spirit if she found a way to escape back to her family. http://home-comic.smackjeeves.com/comics/2357715/page-175/

To change it from to just Jarls being burned to now every individual in the tribe is truly amazing. Fuss and Jonna really deserved this, especially Jonna.

Spiritstrike

Just a quick grammatical correction - in the fourth panel, it should read "Are there other tribes that DO the same?" This page is beautiful, and I appreciate what Ronja said about Jonna <3

Again another thing i adore about your comic that makes them feel so real as characters they grow so much, change over time and learn new things. I don't know if i ever read a book or saw a movie i was this invested in and loved the characters so much tbh. Thank you again for the amazing comic. Gods am i happy i found asmundr way back when. <3

ArtemistheArtist22

I completely understand that <3 It's new and unnatural to them now, but they might become accustomed to this tradition as time goes by, so Roamer and the others may not have this opinion forever (:

Kique Nordin

Thank you a lot for the answer Kique. And yeah i do get that. I guess i was just a bit oversenitive about the topic for obvious reasons i apologise if it came across rude that was in no way my intention i was just a bit surprised to see his disgusted face i guess. But it is interesting to explore that! Especially as i guess the dogs of Aedra kind of view becoming a Nightbeast as part of the cycle of life. As they are basically not aging you could even say it continues their "immortal" lives in a way. I am looking forward to learning more about their views on the nightbeasts in general to be honest. And i cannot wait to learn more about the common laws and practices :3 Great emotional page as always!

ArtemistheArtist22

The reason why Roamer feels uneasy about it is because back in Asmundr, everyone was buried, consumed by the earth and became part of the cycle of life. For the Asmundr characters, seeing bodies being burned to dust and fade in the wind is to them going against what nature originally intended. Edit- Also should mention that in Asmundr, packs didn't have these traditions and ceremonies we see in Aedra. So this is all very new to Roamer, he didn't know until now that it's considered to be an honor to be cremated in MT.

Kique Nordin

I think the way they see it is that is a normal way of life and of death to become a night beast but i do feel kind of bad that they don't think cremation is also an honorary thing to do. I hope it is explained further as right now i cannot help but be a bit butthurt i guess? I myself want to be cremated and we had my grandmother who passed a few days ago cremated too. I hope they find a new understanding of it, and i do think it is nice to think their souls return to the stars. I wonder why roamer is so against it though? Saying it feels unnatural seems a bit harsh? But i might just be emotional too much. It also surprised me as the Jarl thing seems very based on Norse mythology where burning people was a custom of highest honour. I dunno.

ArtemistheArtist22

That second panel... that’s the whole tribe now (save for Alva and Akleja). So depressing.

Rubje

It was only for Jarls. But yea there better of this way.

Rubje

Funny thing is, it might turn out that the MT tradition doing Fuss and Jonn a favor...a burned body can't come back to life as a nightbeast, right? Really sad page, love that Ronja's saying something to Jonna (and most likely to Fuss, too).

Kuni

Someone's been cutting onions again... And once more I am overcome by feels. What Ronja said about Jonna says a lot about how she was a valued member of the tribe, and how Ronja cared about her. As Ronja said, Jonna wanted a better life for the females in the tribe, and fought for the tribe tonight before she died. Ronja's basically saying Jonna will not be forgotten, and I know she's going to give a eulogy for Fuss on the next page. Neither of them will be forgotten, that much, I know. And I also liked Rogio teaching Roamer about the MT custom of cremation, so that the spirits of the deceased can return to the stars. Being cremated after death definitely sounds like a preferable alternative to rising again as a ghoul, which makes me very curious about what Rogio says. Rogio's old tribe didn't practice cremation, and he doubts any other tribes do, because it was considered a crime against nature. That's pretty serious wording, and almost implies that it's considered a taboo across much of Aedra. Though why that could be, I can't yet say, but I'm eager to find out.

Icecat45

Rest in peace you two sweethearts ;-; Natural or not I'd rather watch them burn than become night beasts and suffer even more. We've seen the look on Savas' face. ...considering burning the bodies will prevent that fate...

Yami

Darn you! 😭

Michelle Koenders

I'm not crying.... Not at all.... Both are gone.... Black on white with Fúss here... At least he's got to say farewell... But Jonna... the words Ronja use says it all! <3

Tora Collita

i really appreciate what ronja said about jonna ❤️❤️ ronja is a kind, beautiful soul. i feel so much better

pintomosa
