Devlog: About the game's pace

Hello everyone, and welcome to a quick devlog!

Over the last few updates, I've noticed some feedback about the game's pace. More specifically, about the way the game is becoming slower now than it was before.

I considered making a poll about that, but decided not to, for a very simple reason: because the way I'm doing it is deliberate, and I would probably have ended up ignoring the poll's results if they didn't agree with me.

So, instead of asking for your opinion on that part, I chose to explain my intention.

What I called Part 1 of the game covers Chapters 1 to 18 (for a total of 19 chapters, including chapter 5.5). This part of the game was relatively fast paced for a very simple reason: I needed it to be fast to open up more possibilities.

Part 2, which we're in at the time, needed things to be stable before I could start it. That included, for example, having Nathan get rid of condoms, in order to be able to have interludes including him, without creating incoherent story beats.

But my goal for Part 2 is to display Laura getting comfortable in her role as a hotwife. That means exploring new things, yes, but also showing how she gets comfortable in her relationships with the bulls, and how she starts enjoying experimenting with them.

This is a deliberately slower pace than Part 1 because, in my opinion, that's how it should be (and often is) in these situations. Once the novelty of sleeping with other men has passed, couples enter a phase in which they explore kinks, and ways to enjoy them.

That is my goal for Part 2: to play with kinks, and the way I'm displaying them to you, the player/main character. I try to have each chapter be a variation on that, while displaying Laura getting more and more comfortable.

And all of that will ultimately lead to Part 3, which I often jokingly call "The Slut Era", in which Laura will start having wilder encounters. But to setup that, I have to start by showing her getting comfortable, and ready to experiment.

These things are often, in my opinion, lacking in Netorase works. Most of them display a slope so slippery that they make girls go from "I never slept with another man" to "I'm getting gangbanged with a bukkake" in 2 weeks, which is something I absolutely want to avoid. My goal has always been to display a relatively realistic and health netorase/hotwife relationship, and that kind of relationship requires time, slow buildup, and patience (and also communication, never forget communication).

Some of these feedback also mentioned the money element. Most notably, the fact that, now that I'm getting paid for this game, and now that it's my full-time job, I'm trying to milt it as best as I can.

The reality is that, while I don't think that's the case, I can't guarantee it isn't. Being able to live developing a game is a literal dream of mine, and even if I try to not let it affect my work, I cannot be sure it isn't the case.

That being said, in my opinion, I'm not making the game slower to get more money, but I'm able to make it slow because I'm getting money. It allows me to make the game larger, and to explore more kinks, without any sense of urgency.

In conclusion, the pacing of the game will probably stay the same. I will, nevertheless, try to address the perception of slowness, maybe by having actual progress being made a bit more often, while being maybe a bit smaller, in order not to have the game feel stagnant.

As often, I'd love to hear your feedback on all of that. Your opinion is important to me, even though I sometimes decide to ignore it because I think it will make the game better in the long run. 😉

What you call Part 1 was a lot of fun. Laura and the player were doing something together, exploring this new world. I haven't enjoyed what you're calling Part 2. It seems the player has already moved from a participant to a bystander in the Laura story. Thank you for sharing the plan, and that the real "slut phase" is yet to come. I'm probably out.

Well I know my opinion feels like it's different from most folks here, but I like the "casualness" of the game progression, without shoe horned drama. This is an NTS game but I feel like alot of people want the threat of NTR to cause drama -similar to the Marina Netorase VNs, but i dont feel like that is the purpose of this game. The game, i feel, represents a slow exploration of Laura's (and her friends) descent into cocksluttery as observed through our texts, within a netorase framework where Laura's dedication to MC is steadfast and unyielding. I like the format and speed of progression - I've enjoyed le stag's vision so I'd rather he keep following his vision for the game.

I agree with GOAT on criticism about STORY/PLOT, but also want to add some critics on the production side of the game. Let's imagine this game has HTML format, when the html-page opens all text at once with all AI generated pictures and 2 buttons on the bottom open a next html-page, sometimes the same no matter what, sometimes different depending on button. Let's imagine this game has only 1 balanced route. If you have on the hand a full or developing STORY/PLOT everyone, and I mean literally everyone can create such a game using a free HTML editor. Text - picture - button. Next page. You want to create a pseudo-patch without creating real routes? New page - copy-paste and edit text depends on SUB/DOM variations. I understand Le Stag created the game with really good catchy NTS. I understand Le Stag used Unity to make his game to have a unique Phone-alike view, some UI, text appears not at once, but with some delays, some Picture gallery, etc. But once it's done, creating a new content becomes as easy as an example with html-pages. Nobody hand draws and renders any pictures, no animation, no real routes. So, why delays and slow production? In my opinion there are 2 reasons. 1) Le Stag just milking the Patreon's cash, which I don't believe and honestly don't care. Giving once per month a cup of Starbuck coffee to Le Stag is not a problem at all no matter what. 2) Le Stag doesn't have a real production plan, or solid story to continue, or real experience with game-production or all of the above. In this case, bro, you need some help. I know you said you want to do everything alone, but first of all, help very often doesn't mean expenses, many people can help you for free, and second of all you can even make a profit from that, as strange as it sounds. How? Create a new membership - Helper (or developer, or influencer) with high price, $50-100. Make 5 groups, one for each route, so they can work on the specific route they like. Send them all previous chapters in editable format, so they can fix all grammatical and logical mistakes, and make some suggestions on how to make some events more realistic. Share work-in-progress and exchange ideas with them. By the end of the day, you are the only one who will make a final decision which corrections and ideas to accept and put in the final build.

I don’t think the chapter to chapter pacing is a root issue here. I think The GOAT hit the nail on the head saying that the overarching story has no real conflict.All stories need a conflict that drives the characters to action. E.G. The Demon Lord attacked a village, a magic artifact is corrupting the characters, etc. This game doesn’t have those external motivators so all of the driving conflict/drama needs to come from the characters interacting with each other. Character’s need to have strengths, flaws, goals and the difference in these creates conflict between them. Maybe Ashley wants everyone to fall deep into degeneracy for some yet unknown reason? Maybe after the next big milestone, a character gets anxiety and becomes withdrawn? I understand the stated goal of a wholesome NTS story and that I’m not saying to move away from that at all. But characters need to reach for something, then fail, make mistakes, learn from them, mature, and then reach their goal. ‘A Heros Journey’ is a great storytelling structure. The subplot with Tara was great with this. She had inner turmoil brought on by the external factors of her roommate’s actions. Sought mentorship from the MC. Tried to resist the call to horniness. Then grew as a character and learned about herself. Overall loving the game so far!

I am stuck in the horns of a dilemma here. I should start by saying that I am enjoying Netorase Phone immensely. On the criticisms, I would say the following. I have some sympathy with the points raised by 'The Goat'. Whilst I take your point that you want to develop the game slowly, the ... shenanigans with Nathan and Oliver have become a little repetitive. That said, I do get your point that you are, as it were, bedding Laura in in the 'hotwife world'. Unlike the Goat, I have no real life experience in this world so I cannot contribute on that aspect of the game. Stuff like this is pure fantasy in my little world. I agree with the Goat on his point about rules being set down at the beginning but I can see some merit in the view that, as they were going into this thing ... blind, that might not have occurred to them until later. I'm guessing that no-one will disagree with the view that communication is essential in this scenario. That seems to me to be trite. Having said all of that, at the end of the day, this is your 'baby'. Only you can know whether you're doing this for yourself or for your ... readership. In any event, please keep up the good work.

I think that its nice that in the second part it start to get more slower, i think it is something that it gives other type of sense to the game something, that i would like more its to see more events with tara because i know that theres going to be with ashley but i would like to see more of tara too and her development.

The best games of the genre are not the ones that go fastest to the end, but the ones that reach the deepest and furthest, I think almost all of us will agree here. My biggest "concern" about the game is that it will not make it to the sharp end of a hotwife relationship. That, after all the kinks and fantasies explored, their relationship will never be put to a test, and the story will end before the most emotionally challenging stituations ever happen. I don't trully care about the ride speed or the loops it takes, LeStag, but please, please let us ride it until the very end.

On the lack of rules and discussion of emotions, that was the biggest problem I had with the game for a while. At this point I've come to accept that MC and Laura must be talking about it offscreen, because A) they're both in a pretty healthy mental and emotional space for there to have been no discussion at all, and B) I don't personally have any experience with an open relationship, but I imagine it's more realistic to say that's the kind of conversation you sit down together to hash out in person instead of shooting off texts whenever one or the other have a free moment. YMMW, but this perspective has helped with my enjoyment.

As one of the most vocal critics (I believe anyway), I feel duty bound to respond and there is a lot to unpack here. I'm going to start with the positive. Credit where it is due for admitting that the income generated by the game may be affecting development. Ultimately only you can really know whether it is or not and it is certainly not impossible that the influx of money and the game slowing down at the same time are a matter of coincidence. Also props for sticking to your guns and your vision. Now for the less positive side of things. I want to clarify that my personal criticism about the pace is directed directly at the STORY/PLOT, not the smut. The smut is excellent, if getting repetitive and being very slow to introduce additional kinks. The story, however, has slowed to a crawl. I suppose the chapters with the girls could be seen as story progress since they are vital characters and add an interesting layer to the dynamic. But given that this is an NTS story we know the dynamic between them, ourselves, and our GF will remain wholesome. So it's more like side content than critical path. Which brings me to my main issue with the story: there are no stakes here. There's no conflict, adversity, or drama. It's just a fairy tale couple living out smutty wife sharing. Which would be fine except for two things: 1) It's fucking boring. And 2) it's not realistic. This is probably my biggest gripe with the current counter argument being presented. That the devotion to realism is HIGHLY selective. As someone with actual, real life experience with wife sharing (from both sides), the MC's relationship is so unrealistic it is borderline offensive to use realism to justify anything that is happening. For example, in the early chapter, no rules are set in place. Even if they are amateurs at the start, they would have set some afterwards. They have no discussion about emotions or feelings or how those will be handled moving forward. And make no mistake, women do develop feelings for men they repeatedly sleep with more often than not. Which is why one of the most common rules is not using the same bull repeatedly. All of this leads to this weird situation where the main couple is living this "realistic" life of NTS where it feels like the GF just has multiple BFs rather than bulls. I'll concede that this is a very tough line to walk if you want recurring bulls. Especially ones like Nathan who are mostly kind, charming, and would presumably want a girlfriend of their own at some point in real life. Oliver makes a bit more sense given that he really leans into the roleplay and doesn't seem to care as much about the GF. Again, I do like the game and have enjoyed it. I just worry that it's losing its way for various reasons. And maybe that won't matter to most and that's fair. But I feel obligated to speak up because I do want it to be as good as it can be.

For me: the pacing hasn’t really been an issue. More of the way certain elements were portrayed (Dom MC tendency primarily) which this past update was great step forward but could use some more work to keep it consistent. I can understand where people are coming from to a degree if they only look at it from one point of view: One side gets a rewrite while another doesn’t, spending time on major bug fixes can take time away from story progression, etc. All in all - I feel the pacing has been fine and makes sense and once we move into chapter 3, things will pick up again as she does crazier stuff. Constantly jangling keys doesn’t make for a good story or game.

I can get with this. I'm sure all of us as consumers have enthusiasm about getting to the particular point in the storyline that interests us most, but I can appreciate a good, realistic buildup. Honestly, I'm less concerned with the story pacing than the actual volume of content per update. Your creative process is what it is, but I will certainly suggest that the amount of time we can engage as consumers with each new update matters. I think any real danger of consumer disengagement could come from the proportion of time between updates relative to how much time we get to enjoy each one. One month of waiting for ten minutes of playing can eventually tax one's patience. All that being said, your work is head-and-shoulders above any of your peers producing these days. I hate to limit feedback to just constructive criticisms, but including all of the ways in which you work absolutely shines would take hours. Keep it up--you're one of the few truly talented producers!

Also, everytime there's an update I resign as a Patreon ( 1 week I'm a freeloader per month ) But I stay so I can see Ashely get fucked by the MC Please allow me to see it, and I will feel that my support was worth it. Been around since update number 2 ( two different accounts, but been here nontheless Rest assured, this is the best netorase game out there.

I believe the game feels slow because the last update we only had one extra chapter only... Also the extra waiting for next update it's going to make it a little painful to bear. Personally I don't mind, but I can understand other people that can be ( or not ) patrons Just go along your pace and feel confident that at the end it's going to be worth it.

Everything is great, I understand that you have the opportunity to polish everything, but for me it's a bit too long to wait for a small amount of content. I would be more happy if after the same time the update was much bigger. But I'm certainly not the first one who expects it :)

Stay true to your vision. The only thing that ever concerns me about the development of this game is that I think sometimes you're TOO engaged with the community. There are so many takes on this particular kink that you will never, ever please everyone. Try too hard and you'll end up with a game you don't love, like Mircom did twice. Just make your game the way your vision dictates. We didn't sign up because of the opinions of the commentariat on F95. We signed up because of what YOU created. We're here for the ride you're taking us on.

The game is excellent and the pace is fine, this all makes sense to me and I don't feel like I'm being milked for a subscription. Keep up the good work. My only criticism is when writing the story, have the Dom path make sense. Don't give us sub results on our path, ie. Laura always cancelling or ditching us for the bulls and actually have her keep her word and come home to us. I would rather miss out on a chapter or have to load from memories a sub playthrough than have a sub result on my Dom path. Just my two cents.

Its great how u develop it there are many small steps like first time raw, first time anal, first time creampie etc...u can also switch to MC, first time with Ashley ezc...and of course Tara....so u really have a great and capable set up to do a slow and immersive approach in any direction.

Realistically I think a not insignificant amount of it is from the most recent update being far more modification than addition paired with an announcement of a delay. Or, if that's not the reason it's certainly compounded it. The other half of it is the vast, vast (vast) catalog of games that DO take their time and milk customers for no reward despite claiming otherwise, many of which end up dying before the payoff is delivered. In that regard, the best thing to is roadmap and communicate clearly, and continue to deliver what's promised with regularity. Which so far you have done. For me the issues haven't been related to pacing, that's been fine. It's more of a general dullness and sameness of what's actually happening. In that regard the experimentations with Tara and Ashley have been an excellent way of mixing up what's essentially the gameplay loop of this kinetic novel. I've also not been shy about my misgivings with the dominant tendency, but that's personal taste. You've mentioned you struggle to write it due to your own proclivities so I have to ask, have you considered consulting your girlfriend for advice on that perspective? Of course I'm assuming she both is aware of the game and goes the opposite of you, both of which could be false, but it might be worth considering. Hope you and yours enjoyed/are enjoying Disney.

I think something that may contribute to the perceived lack of content is that some people only really care about 1 of the paths (dom, neutral, or sub). Which results in there being 1-2 updates they don’t care about for every 1 update the person actually cares about. Not saying this is this case, just saying it might be a possibility. Nor am I sure how you could do any different without alienating the others. All that said, I am enjoying the slower, more realistic pace of this game (even if I wish certain things would have already happened in it).

Pace is fine for me (if anything, I think the first chapters are a little too quick lol). I think what may be an issue for some people is that since the game explore several kinks/paths, obviously there will be some updates where some will feel letdown. For example I personally don't like Ashley so I skipped chapter a few updates ago, but thankfully for me the other chapter of the update was with Oliver. So if you plan on keeping your diversity (and I personally hope you will), I think complains are unavoidable. Maybe the only thing that can be done is to be clear about what will be the next update if you're willing to be transparent/spoilerish about it, and obviously if you plan a little ahead. My apologies if you're already doing it, as I said the content of the updates is great atm for me, so I don't look too much into the showcases. Oh, and obviously negative feedback is often louder lol

To be honest, the beginning was speedy and moved but also generated many bugs. This time now we are at a slower pace but the chapters are bigger and I think it also gives time to resolve previous bugs. I think this is ok so far. I also like the aspect where the characters start getting comfy and not just jumping right straight, I think this is one of the things you are doing good and puts this game at the top of the NTS I have seen.

If the goal is to make the game realistic then it is right that the pace is that way. The only correction I would make are the messages, when you select "very dominant" or "very submissive" don't notice much difference compared to other modes and in modes like very dominant" or "very submissive" where the type of relationship between GF and BF the difference between those who ""command"" is much more pronounced, she should be more submissive or bitchy, and for my personal taste I would make the bull's dicks bigger especially in width

I prefer the slow buildup for consistent writing. I think some slow sexual buildup would be really good. If you know about NT00, he has a nts story where the protagonist is consistently teased with no condom cucking. A mix of instant gratification of nts and more buildup of impending raw sex.

I'd disagree with one statement - you're able to make the game correctly paced because you're getting more money, not slower. I don't know if people are mixing 'content' and 'story pace' up, but more content is always welcome 😁

I think the pacing is pretty good actually. I also feel like that most NTS or NTR games escalate too quickly. The reason I joined the Patreon is because Laura is not a bimbo slut, but just a normal girl who is slowly discovering new kinks
