Why was Kargo killed? Especially his foe being Ranach, who is weak compared to Kargo. Makes absolute no sense on how Ranach killed him. If anything, protecting Ferah should had been his strength not weakness in this fight. You would bulk up and give everything you had to protect that someone, especially when the enemy is near them. You would want to make sure they are safe either having the enemy killed or far away from them. Also, as everyone has stated Rogio got off easy. He only got a couple of scratches. I don't know, this whole scene seems to be off for me. It genuine feels like Kargo was killed off so Roamer and Rogio's sake. This is frustrating to say the least

DD

Very well put

SleepyFernweh

Exactly what I was getting at, well said!

Peentz

I have to say something: If you do something just because it's unpredictable, you get results like Game Of Thrones, and all it does is make your audience angry. The audience LIKES to be able to predict what's going to happen! The audience LIKES being able to put the puzzle pieces together and figure out what's going to happen! It's not boring for the vast majority of the audience, it's part of reading! It is part of the active reading process. As an example: Simba is the protagonist of The Lion King. We grow with him, love him. We see his beef with Scar, and then he returns to Pride Rock! What the audience expects and is HOPING for is the triumphant return! They're HOPING to see him take back his pride and homeland! Instead, Scar kills him. Drops him off the ledge just like he did Mufasa. People feel cheated by this. They're denied their expected ending, they're denied the happy ending of the protagonist they love! Meanwhile they're denied the defeat of the antagonist that they love-to-hate! It's... resultingly, bitter and unsatisfying. It was said that "It was obvious how Ranach wan" except it wasn't, it clearly wasn't, or people would not be so confused and blindsided. What is obvious to you as the author is not always obvious to the readers. What WAS obvious was how Contrived his victory was? As you said yourself, Kargo's the perfect fighter! ...So where did that go? Into... protecting Ferah two seconds into the fight? When you aim for the unpredictable ending, you run into to next problem of making that ending Believable. A scene-for-scene replay of say, the bear scene, isn't going to be enough. That's a fun call-back, but it does not explain why Ranach, previously shown to be one of the weakest dogs, was able to take on Kargo without a single scratch until Rogio smashed the vial. I understand that Kargo didn't get a chance to use his "powers", but why not? He was the first one there, how did Ranach land the first blow? Why wasn't he immediately dragged to the ground and killed? When you make a scene unpredictable, you need to do more to explain how it went down the way it does. Otherwise you get the angry fanbase that doesn't understand what's going on.

Kitsune

100% agreed it.

Comet

I know it's been said that Kargo's arc felt over but, idk. Doesn't feel like it to me. I had expected he'd live and then the whole "answer for his crimes" thing would apply should the bounty hunters catch up. I was looking forward to that over Rogio's nightmares (that so far haven't seemed to be an issue in the latest pages) or his relationship with Roamer which I'm pretty meh about myself. Since so far their arc has kinda been on the boring side for me personally. Was really curious to see how Kargo would actually TRY to make himself better now that he had an explanation for his rage. Just feels like we lost the more interesting story here ngl. I get that Kique wanted to go the unpredictable path but honestly. As someone said before predictable=/= boring all the time. I'd have been more accepting of his death even if he had just decided to turn himself in. That would have been unexpected too. Perhaps others, myself included. Would have felt differently ifRanach had managed to sustain more serious injury and THEN managed to get the upper hand. As someone before me mentioned, the fact that no vitals seemed to have been targeted it feels... idk.

Peentz

wow, rip Kargo. :( Been at the edge of my seat these last few pages...still at the edge of my seat lol. And I just wanted to mention Kique, I fully respect the decision to kill Kargo and your reasoning for it. It's sound reasoning. I just want you to know that for a lot of readers, predictable =/= boring. Not always. ;D You don't always have to feel pressured to deviate just because it's predictable. Sometimes it's good to just stick to an expected outcome, especially whe it's highly anticipated, but that's more fan service which I know you're not one to do too much of.

Foxy

That lil "ooooooo" melted my heart 😭

Rolls

Such a shame Kargo somehow managed to miss biting into any vitals, such as the neck or even an eye, while Ranach was distracted. Even trying to grab/pull the knife out his mouth? IDK, biting him in the cheek of all places to wake him up from being distracted wasn't the best strategy here Kargo my dude lol

Slycan

Thank you for your input. My reasonings behind this character death: Kargo's arc has come full circle, he's been through hell, almost lost everything, gained it back but had to experience heartbreak and a lost relationship with Roamer. For three years we have seen him struggle with who he is and what he is capable of. In this chapter, the focus was on his mental state, how he was affected by the loss of Roamer as his lover, and how he came to terms with it. He had a breakthrough by lashing out at Rogio and breaking down in Roamer's arms, he poured out everything, admitting that he's afraid of his strength and what it might do, even to himself. He then got the other half of the answer, one part being how he grew up and being angry with the world, and the other part being blessed with a bear's fighting spirit. He felt at peace, and could move on being less afraid and more understanding. He realized he had to let Roamer go, it's what Roamer wanted, despite that it hurt. We have seen proof of his incredible strength since we met him three years ago, this isn't some new discovery to be hyped up about -now-, just an answer to what we've been seeing this whole time. He was in the dark on what he would do with his strength, but he got his answer when he got to save Ferah one last time. My other reason for his character being killed (aside from the impact it will have on future plots) is because he's not a superhero that is resistant to anything and everything. Kargo was the perfect fighter, the perfect character for an epic battle, the perfect killer for the villain, so perfect it would have been predictable. Everyone thought the moment he and Ferah growled at Ranach that Ranach would meet his end. Everyone thought Kargo could defeat him with one try. To me, that would have been predictable and boring. Life doesn't work out perfectly just because you've got the perfect skills to handle that situation. Life is unfair, and especially life on Aedra. My reason for not killing Rogio is because his character still has a lot of things unresolved. By killing him, we would miss out on his lingering issues that we've seen being worked up the past few chapters. We've still don't know the root cause of it, still don't know what it means for his character. By him dying here, we would never know and would waste that entire plot, making the past scenes of his nightmares pointless.

Kique Nordin

While I'm more than glad Rogio survived, I can't help but agree with others that it feels...wrong that Kargo died the way he did and Rogio survived. :/ For Kargo meeting his end like that, shortly after acepting Rogio x Roamer...Idk it feels the whole point of the character in the end was bring Roamer to Rogio and keeping Ferah save, something she never even said "thank you for being there all my life" for, when before and after his big screw up (and honestly? Rogio did more wrongs in his life and everyone's forgiving him anyway- no real consequences beside Kargo) he sacrificed everything for her. I wish we could have seen him grown, rebuilding his relationship with Rogio, you hinted a brotherlike relationship with Roamer, Idk...it feels like such a waste, even Rogio dying would have make more sense, as he already died nearly and death still lingers behind him, so him dying her would've make more sense from pure story perspective. Don't get me wrong, I adore this comic, Idk...it just feels like "bringing Kargo out of the way so he can't bother anymore" when there was the whole consequences thing with the traiders too, it's just...every other character nearly would've make more sense, can't describe it better. Plus his end kind of destroyed all the hype around his abilities, same goes with Avanti, which feels so...sighs. I was really hoping for more in that fight, as it was hyped up so much. There is hoping at least Ranach dies too, as he is just annoying at this point. Hope you don't mind/block me for this, I'm just really confused and fail to see why the scene had to be like that. :/

Thakiro

Couldn't agree with you more. As powerful as Kargo's death will be, it feels like it's missed a ton of potential.

Fatesmishap

Kargo and Ferah were finally facing off with Ranach. They finally had their chance to exact their revenge on the enemy. To give Ranach what he deserves for all of his heinous acts. We have seen Ferah kill before (Page 34) so it is clear she knows how to. So why didn’t she go for Ranach’s carotid artery (you don’t need a knife to hit it)? One could argue that it would take away a good fight scene. Too quick of a death. Fair enough. The problem is, even though she didn’t kill him instantly (and this is my thought) the following fight wasn’t the climactic epic battle between good and evil the audience anticipated. Kargo has a well defined back story with clear motives for why he does what he does. Then we (the audience) were made aware of Kargo’s abilities. It was the perfect storm. Kargo was a damaged character with motive, a goal and now the perfect tool to help him meet that goal. It was the perfect recipe for an epic climax to a story. I was disappointed to see such a well-written character meet his end in such an anticlimactic way.

Others are saying Rogio is too unharmed for it to make sense while others say he’s too injured for it to make sense x) Sorry if I made it look like Avanti can teleport herself, it was never my intention, only that she is extremely fast. She can disorient others and split small groups apart within a short distance however. Rogio has some very deep wounds on his side, and almost has his throat punctured. He’s on the ground defenseless, he got a lucky bite on her arm, that’s it. He would have been dead by now if it wasn’t for Akleja. I chose not to include the part of Avanti’s bio regarding her being able to sense other love interests of her bonded mate, because it could have been seen as a spoiler. The wiki has info that has been revealed so far in the comic, I try to avoid adding anything more until we -all- know about it.

Kique Nordin

Damn, it hurts to see Kargo this injured like this. I also see a lot of comments mentioning that Avanti and Kargo went down easily. I already shared my thoughts on Kargo and why I felt like he went down so easily and I have had people replying to me on why but I still stand by what I said with Kargo though I appreciate them clearing things up. As for Avanti her battle with Rogio feels very underwhelming but honestly, this attack Ranach made on the tribe felt underwhelming. I did admire that Ranach put the wooden wall on fire causing a panic and a breach in security. I hope the fire continues to cause the wall damage to give the characters a delimma that they will now have to worry about night beast coming inside the area. Other than that everything else went downhill from there and here is why I think it did. In earlier pages, Avanti was shown to be able to teleport herself and teleport a certain number of dogs away from others so that she can pick them off one by one. She killed Jonna with this tactic, injured Alva, injured Fuss, and scratched up Fremja armor. They all tried to attack her yet she was too fast which brings me to my next point. She's fast. She may not be extremly fast but she's fast enough to dodge some attacks and surprise her enemies with a few attacks of her own. I think some people are very confused that Rogio only having minor scratches when Fuss, Alva, and Roamer had deeper ones. And it makes me question why didn't Avanti use her teleportation powers on herself or Rogio to confuse him since she was injured? And when I go to the wiki page and read this paragraph that says: "Bounded by blood, she obeys the commands of her "betrothed". If they ask for the destruction of their enemies, she will do so with no remorse or second thoughts. Ávanti does not see pity, nor does she give them towards others. She will do everything in her power to please the one she is bound to." Why did she not stay by Ranach side if she was extremly dedicated to him? I'm aware that she might've "sensed" the bond between him and Rogio, but it was never really stated that she would disobey the one she loves to destroy an old lover. That's why I and others are so confused. Avanti was a cursed beast with speed, power, and possibly teleportation. She's not invincible of course but she seemed very strong compared to other predators like that bear for example. I also want to put my thoughts on this being a low point for the tribe after losing Kargo. Maybe for Roamer and Ferah but for everyone else? I'm unsure. I think a true loss would've been more deaths and a few main characters and secondary characters seriously injured in all honesty. The moment Avanti ran away from Ranach is when I knew that everyone else would be safe. Kargo getting this injured surprised me but I never once feared for anyone's life being endangered especially Rogio. Things took a predictable turn when she left Ranach side and I don't feel like anything else can happen now that Avanti has poofed away/is reverting back to an original dog/wolf. This definitely feels like a final battle. But like Kuni said above I hope we get some sort of twist. This comic has been really good even when it's had it's down moments. So I'll hold onto hope that Kargo is still alive and that the battle isn't over just yet.

I hope the scene will have some interesting twists still...so far it feels like I was expecting it...Kargo being heavenly hurt/even dying, Rogio completely fine beside some scratches, destroying the Avanti or freeing her or whatever )I wasn't even worried about Rogio, dunno, was completely clear for me he'll be just fine and return to Roamer, despite me hopeing for some twistes with him, def not him dying but...yoo know...more? Kargo was completely a waste in that fight. It was so hyped up with him being able to help against Ranach and Avanti, so him dying here...like I said, he might survive and I'll take all back if he does/something unexpected still happens...but so far the characters arc seems to be "protecting Ferah and bringing Roamer to a point he'll get together with Rogio". Dunno. Seems like a waste for one of the most interesting characters, cause for sure I at least find him more interesting then Rogio and Roamer or yeah, even Ronja whom I love dearly. But like I said, I hope for the best, that that...well, "wasn't it" cause that would be so underwhelming for, like, the big fight that marks most likely half of the comic. But that's just my opinion. When it comes to art, these scenes were amazing, beautiful done and you totally improved there. Just the whole events...but in the end, tast matters, I'm well aware, plus scene isn't done yet.

Kuni

I do agree with the last one. I hate when, in movies, people Hold up to mourn their beloved during a war/gruesome fight. Like??? Keep fighting!

Trixi

My feelings/point of view: - Kargo had a bear strength. Ok, so where did it go during this fight? Except maybe flying Ferah, I didn't saw this. No dog even attacked Ranach to his throat, for me it looked like a puppy fight, chomping cheeks and ears, not even vital parts that could have put down for good the big vilain. - Rogio having extreeme luck because Avanti just "played" with him? Jonna was killed the moment she was catched, and Fuss had lot of wounds, he barely could escape her. Again he barely fought back in my point of view, only biting skin and not the entire wrist. - I have thought of an epic forest fire, instead of that we just have the wall. Want to get rid of a tribe? Then burn everything. - I hope Roamer will be useful and not emotional. I don't want to see him be like "Noooo Kargoooo whyyyy I loved youuuu" crying above his body. You don't have time for this dude. This is war, in a war, you don't cry you comrades when they fall, you don't have time. You run, fight and survive. And when everything is over, you have the right to mourn you friends. This is my point of view, you don't have to agree on it ^^ I just wanted to write it and share with people.

Kitty

Like every dog in this tribe. I wonder where Vigr and co are, if they all attack Ranach, he won't stand a chance.

Kitty

I am going to really try to state this as nicely as I can with out causing offense or a stir. But it really bothers me we see Rogio pretty much unharmed and Kargo completley done for it seems, and pretty quick at that by Ranach. Avanti hardly even felt like a threat this time around to be perfectly honest. I'm sorry to say I'm just really disappointed over all.

Comet

I sure hope that Roamer smells like Rogio so Ranach knows Kargo told the truth 😭

KatrineSL95

I just realized that Roamer is completely unarmed o.o

Aerophoinix

And so a warrior falls. Kargo is very obviously bleeding internally now, and yet, he still fought to the end! Little Akleja, you made your voice heard, and in doing so, saved a life. Interesting though, that Avanati is dissipating in white slivers/sparkles, much like how Zilas did. Curious. Even more interesting is that Ranach' leg began to bleed when the vial was broken. It does prove that the connection went both ways

Luae

interesting parallel to how Kargo killed the cave bear

Blackfangs

I gotta funny feeling roamer is going to either lose it with anger. Or grieve... Hopefully first choice. Because if he lets his guard down hell be swimming with the fishes if you get my drift

Tyler Buehner

Atta girl, Akleja! Make your little voice heard. Thank god Avanti is gone. Without the blood to keep her bound to Ranach, the curse is broken. But at what cost does this come with? I hope Kargo makes it...

Spiritstrike

The courage in Akleja's eyes was incredible! And I love the little detail where Ranarch starts bleeding the same place where he first summoned Avanti once the vial was broken. Unfortunately, it was enough for Kargo to strike where it hurts...

Danie Camach

Now I'm thinking about what happens next. Will Rogio limp his way to the wall? Or will he seek out Javo and Inna, who we haven't seen at all, for help so he doesn't bleed out? His wounds don't look deadly if they're taken care of quickly, but they also don't look *good*. It would be sweet, sweet justice for Ranach to get even just a glimpse of Rogio, but everything surrounding Ranach is unfair (most importantly, this fight, and this is one of the reasons I hate him so much).

Farvardin

Man I may not have liked Kargo but seeing him go out like this still upsets me. I just wanted him to have some punishment for his actions but not like this. I hope they subdue Ranach, let him see Rogio is indeed alive for like a second, let him relish that he'll never have him again, then plunge that same blade in his throat like he did to Kargo.

Peentz

Akleja, the bravest pup in the Aedra, good job to distract Avanti. And congrats to Rogio for sober thinking and destroy the vial. So the bond is broken? I wonder if Avanti will disappear now? Or she may stay on this reality but without bonding with someone? Her curse may be broken? And Kargo... He took his chance, but Ranach is on the better position, holding knife. And this stab looks deadly... Right in the throat... I fear that is Kargo's end... And all of this in front of Roamer... He's not my favourite, but it's sad, that he probably will die in the moment when he started changing for better.

Syria_Black

...also can I just point out the irony that Kargo was brought down by the same/similar wounds as the bear he killed? Them subtle details.

Yami

and that folks is my fave bab gone,had a stab of discomfort and was hesitant to open the update - the page is gorgeous but I just cant :( good job though to both my sweet puppers ;;-;

I'm so proud of our little petal. She'll be the bravest of them all one day! ...but so the mighty Kargo has fallen as it seems... I had hopes til the end but that slash definitely can't be fixed with healing bark. Even though I've been starting to prepare myself for this ever since Fjordor told him to hide from the bounty hunters, but especially obviously the last few pages, this hits me more than I'm comfortable to admit. He's one of my favorite characters, design wise as well. I have a soft spot for characters like him and it hurts to think that this might be one of the last times we'll get to see him. Especially after everything that happened recently. It's unfair, but this is Aedra. It has been unfair to Zilas, to Jonna, Fúss and Vaja. One wrong step or just simply bad timing and that's it... still... KARGOOO T-T

Yami

heyyy, don't insult Vandi lmao /joke/

Viktor

nooo kargo !!!

Ah

Smart little girl! But oh boy, Kargo... our strong boy. ;__; Relief changed to shock and grief less than a second.

Waikku

Good job Akleja. ❤️

Haley Kuntz

Good Job Akleja! ...Ranach, you son of a bitch!!!

Roamer, I'm begging you. Please don't let grief overwhelm you yet. You have adrenaline coursing through your veins, let rage be the emotion that takes over. You've shown time and time again that recklessly taking things in to your own paws is how you operate. Don't stop now. Akleja you did wonderful sweetie but please don't scare us like that again sobs

Farvardin

Also how dare you pull a Game of Thrones Kique

AmnesiaMoons

I hope he does. Kargo was his first love, despite what happened between them. I need to see Snowbutt take justice into his paws. This sucks.

AmnesiaMoons

Well...the necklace is broke. I read alot of comments last page about Akleja being the distraction Rogio needs. And it looks like they were right! Akleja's "oooooo" is adorable. The necklace is broken; Ranach feels that, giving Kargo a chance to fight back....but Ranach still has a knife and Kargo is bleeding from his mouth. Those 3 stab wounds weren't grazes. I'm sure they run deep. To have Roamer make it to the top of the wall to see Ranach stab Kargo in the throat.... Roamer may lose it.

Kinder

Kill him Roamer. Do et

SUN

"Make your voice heard" - Fúss Well done Akleja, and well done Rogio for smashing that blood bottle! And seemed to have an effect on Ranach as well. But Kargo! Kargoooooooo! Please, do some moew damage to Ranach... Rip his balls off... Then die... And Roamer... You managed to climb. Good boy.

Tora Collita

I am now crying. Kargo, man, this ain't right. Lost for words, speechless. Rogio good job and little petal, well done, but I hope to the Gods that Roamer at the least tears him up. Even better if he does kill him. Kargo 😭

AmnesiaMoons

Couldn't help thinking how accurate some people's theory about the upcoming page XD

Steve
