Mother Jupiter
Added 2019-03-26 22:20:35 +0000 UTCFinally, the dragon based on a planet that I was working on for a contest is done! This was very fun to do and way out of what I usually do, so I learned a lot doing this.
As you can tell, this dragon is based on Jupiter. I used plenty of references of the planet in order to capture all the subtle colours on its surface, and it was especially fun to capture the swirls and cloud-like matter in the texture. I like to imagine that the swirls in her wings move and swirl in real time, so they're never definite.
I wanted this dragon to look both fierce and protective; don't know if I achieved it, but in the end I'm very happy with the result!
Whether I win the contest or not doesn't really matter to me, I was mostly looking forward to designing a new dragon that I could use in Bound Fates; and yes, I did get ideas for this one! Mother Jupiter is one of the Dragon daughters of Sarren the Fierce One, and as such, her role in the balance of the universe is to protect and serve. Possessing great foreseeing and premonition magic, she will be the first to let her father know should she foresee a disaster coming for a world. She has prevented many a tragedy in her incredibly long lifetime, and is regarded as a saviour by many worlds...
