FULL WATCHALONG ~ TREMORS

**Tremors** is the 1990 cult classic that proves you don’t need big-budget CGI or a deep philosophical message to make a monster movie that’s an absolute blast. Set in the tiny, desert town of Perfection, Nevada, the film follows a couple of handymen, played by Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward, as they discover that the ground beneath their feet is teeming with giant, man-eating worms called Graboids. That’s right—killer worms. And yet, somehow, **Tremors** manages to turn this ridiculous premise into one of the most entertaining creature features ever made. Compared to today’s overly serious, CGI-laden monster flicks, **Tremors** is refreshingly low-tech, relying on practical effects, clever camera work, and a whole lot of charm to deliver the goods. The cast plays it perfectly straight, which only makes the absurdity more fun, and the movie’s blend of humor, suspense, and gooey monster mayhem keeps you hooked from start to finish. It’s like a perfect B-movie that doesn’t realize it’s a B-movie—or maybe it does and just doesn’t care. With its snappy one-liners, DIY monster effects, and Kevin Bacon in full ‘I’m-too-good-for-this-but-having-a-blast-anyway’ mode, **Tremors** digs its way right into your heart and reminds you that sometimes, all you need is a little bit of grit and a lot of giant underground worms to make movie magic.

You really do have to be in a certain mood to really get into this flick, unfortunately. Like /our guy Kevin/ behind the curtain said, it's the last of the Mohicans for fully practical monster shlock and that really is 90% of the appeal. Comin' in hot from Maximum Overdrive probably had you geared up for a different kind of experience -- but at least you can say you've seen it now; Kevin Bacon called this his lowest point at the time, and Reba was probably calling it her high point. Two shameless recs, since you made the mistake of asking: The Right Stuff for the Fred Ward extended universe and Space Truckers for a pure trash watch that has the potential to blow you away. Also, sending good vibes for the trips, treatments, and the good times to follow.
