In Trivium, Medusa and Gorgons are separate races. Medusas have legs and Gorgons have the lower body of a snake. Another key difference is the gaze of a Medusa lasts until someone with sufficient magic can restore the victim. A Gorgon's gaze on the other hand only lasts for 24 hours.
