FULL WATCHALONG ~ FRIDAY THE 13TH : THE FINAL CHAPTER

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984) is, ironically, not even close to the final chapter—but it is arguably the sharpest, bloodiest, and most satisfyingly savage entry of the early Jason era. After three films of trial and terror, this one finally gets the slasher formula firing on all cylinders: a body count buffet, sleazy teenagers, and a machete-wielding maniac who’s officially graduated from “creepy forest dude” to “unkillable horror icon.”

This time around, we’ve got two cabins full of victims—er, characters—including a family with an improbably gifted kid named Tommy Jarvis (played by young Corey Feldman) and a house full of oversexed twenty-somethings who make the original group look like choir kids. You've got your requisite horndogs, your one-night stands, your fake-streaker named Teddy Bear, and Crispin Glover doing whatever the hell that dance was.

But let’s not pretend we’re here for deep characters. We’re here for Jason. And holy hell, this is peak-era, no-nonsense, walking death-machine Jason. He’s faster, more brutal, and blessedly silent as he turns each scene into a masterclass in creative murder. Harpoon gun to the groin? Check. Head crush in the shower? Double check. Machete to the face through a projector screen while a stag film plays? Chef’s kiss.

What sets Part 4 apart (besides Tom Savini returning with a vengeance to do the gore effects) is that it actually feels like it’s trying. There’s a strange sense of momentum to it, and the final act, featuring Tommy and his sister Trish fighting for their lives, is genuinely tense—especially when Tommy goes full bald-headed maniac in one of the wildest horror movie fake-outs of all time.

The Final Chapter isn’t classy, subtle, or smart—but it is the moment Friday the 13th found its perfect rhythm: campy, mean, fast, and dripping with blood. It's the horror equivalent of a metal guitar solo—loud, ridiculous, technically impressive, and exactly what fans came to see. And the best part? It’s not the final chapter. Not even close.

This one was supposed to be the final stop for Jason. Tom Savini came back for the makeup effects and so it was The Final Chapter...until it turned a profit for Paramount. Welcome to the Tommy Jarvis saga.

This was indeed one of the best of the franchise with some brutal kills. This has become one of my favorite Slasher Franchises along with Halloween.
