Think candy canes as weapons and Christmas lights as garrotes—it’s as ridiculous as it sounds, and it works. Meanwhile, the hostage family is just dysfunctional enough to make you cheer for their redemption, even as Leguizamo’s “Scrooge” chews the scenery with villainous glee.
Violent Night is a gory, over-the-top love letter to holiday action classics like Die Hard and Home Alone, complete with booby traps that would make Kevin McCallister blush.
