Idea Buildup

I've had the opportunity to catch up on some movies and series so I've been a bit distracted the last week, so I haven't had a long drawing session. But, I'm always drawing in some way. It's easy to carry a paper an pen around. This is such a paper – an A4 that I keep on a clip board, rotating as I go, kinda drawing in from the edges. I also make little notes that I can't decipher later.

This is for the Mutant/Mutoid project. I've been trying to some up with weird birds... maybe revert a few native Swedish species toward a dinosaur look. The European Adder (snake) could maybe be turned into a hydra. Earwigs into scorpions. I used to catch Northern Crested Newts in swamps as a kid, so I'm thinking of turning those into humanoids.

Afaik, weapons are covered well only in the prequel Nya Mutant / Utrustning and those are black silhouettes. It's pretty generic stuff, like real world weapons, and then gauss, laser, needlers, gyrojets, neuro, vibro, monofilament. I used ot really enjoy drawing weapons but nowadays it mostly feels like a chore, though it gets difficult when I take it on myself to come up with a weapon language and silhouette iconography.

The map turned into a big project. I used accurate elevation and sediment/rock data for my Baltic map, but since the tech level might be 14th-17th century, and I'll need player maps, I took a look at Scandivavian maps of the time. Oh wow.

I've been to Norway, biking from Narvik out through Lofoten, visting Røst, then taking Hurtigrutten down to Bergen. It's difficult to map the actual coastline to the 16th century one. 

Apparently there was a big land/seabed slide off the coast of Norway which triggered a Tsunami that helped to finally submerge Doggerland (then inhabited by stone age people) many thousands of years ago. But Doggerland resurfaces in my setting and might be home to the Scottish Mutant Badgers.

Anyways, now I'll try to clean up this mess of a sheet. It's A4, 300ppi scan. Mechanical 0.5 HB pencil.
