So what have I been up to?
I've posted a new 40K page on my site.

And I wrote some 160 pages for my book, but I'll let that rest for a while so I can re-read and judge it better.
Anyways, I thought I'd return here finally with a new project: Some HeroQuest, and later perhaps Space Crusade 1" tiles. I think I'd like something light, with lines showing. Sometimes modern board games can be really dark with lots of gloomy light effects, but I think that's not the right mood here and it can be difficult to read on the table.
For the game... I could do the original board, but it's too tempting to design my own solo procgen version while I'm at it. I'm thinking some 6x6 blocks which are arranged in a 4x4 dungeon.
I think the enemies should be generic, i.e. not a theme like "the bloodwyrm clans of kzintz". I grabbed the original figurines and scaled them to size. They stand on 24x21 mm bases and the tiles are 22mm square, but I think 1" tiles and 20mm thin bases will work better. I'm not one for base inflation. I'm sticking to simple standing poses and 28mm heroic proportions. I think the new HQ used D&D proportions, but I do not like those, especially not when highly detailed and aggressively posed.
I don't think I played the original HQ, but I did play Warhammer Quest with all the spiders, bats and rats. It had a tendency to sprawl out on the table, with lots of space between sections. The rules & expansions sprawled out too... I think it required a bit too much communal engagement so we didn't get a lot of games in. It did have a have interesting gameplay section where you were outside of the dungeons, rolling for events in the city. It really brought the setting to life. Of course, it also benefited from being able to pull lore from the Old World.
I'll see if I can finish up a tile section or two tomorrow. Or maybe concepts for the rest of the heroes and monsters. They'll have to be cardboard standups.
