Imperial Map

I took some time to line the map (coastlines and mountains). Trying to keep the squiggly-ness natural.

The shape was based on UK and Scandinavia, with hints of Indonesia.

In my story the isle is ruled by the Imperial Seat, which is actually three individuals (Kings) chosen in some nasty competitive manner. The empire is split into 15 baronies (with somewhat fluid borders) and three imperial command cities. The baronies are further split into districts (manor equivalents).

Comments on my naming "scheme":

Bouboh - A smaller, rather poor barony which my main character adopts. Boo-Boo... MC is undead.

Cultresk (Cult/Träsk=Swamp) - These guys can't grow food well in their swampy region, unless poisonwart counts. They look with envious eyes at Bouboh's more fertile soil.

Harkoner (Harkonnen) - Separated from Bouboh by some nasty death mountain terrain. Name hints at these guys possibly being nasty neighbours.

Wei-torant (Wasteland, torturous) - The whole region is a wasteland, due to some disaster. But people here somehow persist. They also plot to grab the Bouboh barony.

Sucoptaan (Scotland/Lappland) - Sounds like a place with eldritch bugs?

Porandis (Poland) - Main city moved following aforementioned disaster.

Irond (Ireland... Irond sounds like a place in LotR?)

Sothmer (Southern) - Water mer-people here perhaps?

Doonmurk (Denmark -_-u)

Karlbeyang (Karlskrona/Beijing, but I confused the location with Hongkong). Yeah, I'm frankesteining nordic and asian names.

Narveik (Narvik, a place near Lofoten in Norway where I biked as a kid)

Kandis (Canada)

No meaning, just sounds: Renshaw, Zei-yoon, Grandizt, Norveik, Jian-zu.

I'll probably tweak the names a bit. Perhaps the island complex is multicultural so stuff just got named and renamed by random people. The black names are baronies so it it's probably all inherited family names rather than static city names. When a family is killed off by an usurper or simply dies out, the name changes. This makes it all rather chaotic. I could imagine that in a medieval setting with a lot of drama, borders become very hazy. There are no satellites or GPSes, and there are monsters in the wild. Probably just loose lines between landmarks, lakes, river sides, etc.

It seems unusual, but still interesting, that the more asian-inspired cities are located in the middle of the continent/archipelago. The map looks great, and it seems to be quite the fertile ground for exploration and further detailing. I'd love to see how different those cities look, seeing that (as suggested by the names) they're inhabited by different cultures.
