This is a project from 2017 when I posted about it on twitter and also made this page (and never linked it on my site index for some reason):

I don't think I ever showed the particular images seen here though. As you can see, it's some sort of 2D platforming game. My idea was to make it very compact so I could get a lot of use out of the same areas, and to make it kind of simple so I could finish it in 4 months.
There would be just a few towns, seen at the top of the map. Below are the fortress screens and cave areas. Bottom left is a Zelda II style topdown world map for roaming, and encounters would work the same with different biomes. Encounter areas are assembled from the bottom right screens into the temporary COPYX area (green), putting the player at the center with escapes left and right.
The journey starts just like Zelda II too, with a sleeping princess, perhaps guarded by heroic characters. Then she wakes up and... hurriedly disrobes, revealing bikini armour! She's the heroine! What a twist! What an incredible twist!
She has to make it back to her spaceship. Perhaps she crashed/landed, fell into a coma, and was moved to a place of worship. The game would play a bit like Zelda II with methodical stabs rather than nicely animated screen clearing swooshy moves and wall jumps. The treasures would be partly random (shuffled), with NPC clues being dynamic in some fashion.
Judgement
I kind of like this style of pixel art (32 colours) and it could be fun to continually noodle on the project. I have not written any significant code for it yet though, and I'm not sure if the end result will be worth the time investment. Still... I haven't seen a lot of Zelda II type games so maybe there's a space for it.
