Blowing wind.

A sign of the coming rainfall. From the top of the bridge, I'm able to spot the nimbus clouds drifting towards the city.

Towards me.

My name is Isaac. Surname unimportant. Age, unimportant. What's important is the fact I'm about to kill myself.

My life has been mostly good despite a shitty start being orphaned at 2. Despite this, I've been lucky to lead a somewhat normal childhood and even had minimal success in both career and family prospects. This is all because of a peculiar ability/power/skill that only I have.

Since I was 2 years old, I've been able to see Paths. Better explained as an overactive intuition to make beneficial choices in any given situation. These paths appear to me like a road of smoky strings. The optimal path being the whitest string in the bunch and the worst path, the grayest.

I've avoided bus accidents, getting robbed, dying at the hands of a jealous Ex, won the lottery one time and managed to make my wife fall in love with a brooder like me.

That said, the Paths are not a guaranteed path to success. They simply help me pick the best out of a few choices. Sometimes- scratch that, most times, the choices suck. And even the best of bad is still bad.

Like now.

Before me lies a single White string. Stretching from my chest all the way down to the ocean below. Recently, my wife was diagnosed with an illness that can only be cured for millions of dollars.

The strings never lie. The only way to make that much money without stealing is through the payout from my Life Insurance.

Sacrifice my life to prevent her death.

She's the only reason I've been living anyway.

Without a second thought, I tug at the string and step off the bridge.

The roaring wind mutes the car honks and screams from those on the bridge. The surface of the water churns in anticipation as I drop to meet it.

I close my eyes and enjoy the wind one final time.

Splash.

Then darkness.
