Rolling back our prices.

In case you haven't heard, Patreon has put its fee changes on hold.  The damage has been done, but if you like the service you can keep using it without worry for the foreseeable future.

Here's the thing though, they showed us their hand.  We know what they want, why they want it, and how much we matter in their equations.  I'm still going to diversify your options when it comes to supporting my work.  I know how angry many of you guys were about how small pledge patrons were described as superfluous to their plans.

I have no problem paying for a quality service.  If you pay for quality you pay once and save money in the long term, but creators haven't even gotten features we were promised years ago.  The system is still sub optimal in spite of scores of emails talking about how much is going on behind the scenes.

That said, I still feel like I owe Patreon some benefit of the doubt.  They appeared at the perfect time to save my life in a very real way.  Of course they were just the platform that gave you guys an easy way to help me.  In the end it was you all who made me, saved me, and who I owe.  So whatever happens from here on it's you and me, and everyone else are middlemen.

If you switched over to paypal, or paid me a years worth of pledges, or whatever, I'm going to find a way to make sure you get the extra content if you want it.  I'll probably set up a private place to store it all and just send you the link.

Anyway, I'll let you all know.  Thanks to those of you who stuck with me in spite of all this bullshit.

They demonstrated that there's a distinct need for competition to keep them honest. Price hikes for the same service always results in a loss of revenue unless you've got one heck of a monopoly. Econ 101. Prices goes up, fewer people buy... alternatives are sought.

From what I have seen and read. - Unfortunately they have not had the best people at the helm to begin with. - The new driving force was careening into as wall and just now avoided a spectacular crash with not insignificant collateral damage. - Now it is headed into an ignoble end in the ditch of many good ideas that got screwed up by "experts" in business.

My question is how are they going to do right by their creators and what could be their main source of income? Is Patreon going to reimburse them for their loss income?

I'll stay here for the time being. Less hassle.

So, Patrexodus is delayed, but is now inevitable?

I'm going to see if they hold true for the time. I'll still support you, no matter where you end up, though. You do much, given your state of health and state of mind. And you share that with us, giving us a human face to relate to.

I give to a bunch of people, but come to think of it, yours might have been one of the very first, if not the first. The platform of donation might change in the future, but my desire to support is holding firm.

I may or may not stick with Patreon, but I'm sticking with you and the BF crowd for the long haul.

Perfesser Bear

That was very well put.

One of my favorite sayings has always been "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity." But that said, I think all of us are watching to see if they do something like this again, because their benefit of the doubt has been used up.

I think it's fair to say that they made an honest mistake, and that they didn't fully understand the implications of their decision. I haven't seen anything that has convinced me that they're not trying to do right by their creators and users yet.
