This fun little foray into the past, and the relationships of, the Lincoln twins cost me a lot of support. I gotta say, every year I fall more and more in love with our hyper reactionary culture. It's been an absolute joy wondering what thing will finally permanently cripple me financially. I happens more and more often every year, but this time felt personal. If you're reading this you're obviously not one of the people who heaped scorn on me, or called me a bigot, or a Nazi. I appreciate that. I fully expect things to get much worse as I tell the story of the train wreck that was, and is, the relationship between Jess and Evrina. So if you stick around to see it I will appreciate that even more. The coming year or so will have some of the most emotional stuff I've ever done in the comic and scenes that I wrote almost 20 years ago when I wrote the second ongoing outline. It might actually take the next 2 years, I'm not 100% sure how things will line up since I like to edit in good bits as I go along. I'm wrapping up the story of the graves in the field, Nina's past with Alex and her family, Nina's trauma, and probably a couple more things. After that will come the culmination of another long written storyline and the beginning of the hopeful creativity of the cast in general. God willing after that I can tell the story of Jo's first attempt at making a movie, while actually making a comic of the movie to show off as a side project. Even as things get worse and worse in the real world I'm going to keep stretching my hand out trying to tell a better story than I did the day before.

I hope you'll come with me.

I'm so confused, why would people throw a tantrum over that? I get that the thing the character did was bad, but it's not out of her character. Did they forget her first day in the comic treating Ed like the most worn out of doormats?

Dude, powerful stuff! I can relate to so much of this, myself. I'm seeing old relationships I was involved in 35 years or more ago that crumbled, reformed and mutated and we went on. A former girlfriend dumped me because she doubted her own sexuality. She set me up with her roommate (I never did learn from that one). Then she 'stole' (her word) the roommate from me. This sequence brought it all back in living color (okay, the Turner colorized version). Keep it up -- I won't cancel you for it!

I've been so into this arc that I didn't know the comic's spent the entirety of the month set at God Be With Brew. Illegitimi non carborundum, Jackie.

I really do not get the way people lash out these days. If you do not enjoy something for whatever reason move on and find things you do enjoy instead of trying to tear down something others do enjoy. This is a story, it's not meant to be an echo chamber for personal beliefs or represent some absolute truth. Things like this should make you think, laugh, cry, and even disagree. Isn't that the point of reading another's story? I appreciate your comic Jackie, and hope you keep writing it for us.

I'm sorry, I'm not grasping what could be seen as an issue with this scene. It's pairs of people working through past relationships and dynamics with the support and perspectives of new partners. If anything it's emotionally mature and progressive, not regressive. Jess made some controlling choices in the past but that's not a flaw of the author, it's a flaw of the character that allows for growth and maturation. It's a virtue of an author that they: can recognize flaws as flaws, want to explore the situations that foment such flaws, and imagine a path for characters to work through those flaws that is cogent when written. What's the problem with that?

Here for it all.

Oh good grief! We have actual bigots and Nazis running this shit-show of a country and people feel the need to come after an artist instead? I get that it's frustrating being unable to turn the ship away from all the horrors it's headed toward, but come on!

I go along with all of the positive comments here. You are telling a real and very complex story, during what sounds like a difficult personal story, but I am here for the long run. Keep up the good work!

alphanor

Right up there with banning _Huckleberry Finn_, making the "bad" story go away doesn't make the issues it talks about go away with it. Thank you for sticking to your story, I want to read all of it.

DougO

I wish I had a hard time believing that after all the time you've been drawing this, folks are ducking out and giving you shit over the current storyline. Their loss, to be sure. I'm not sure precisely when I started following, but I look forward to whatever you have to offer. Keep up the good work.

I think those people that can't handle real life outside their walled garden can't appreciate this story you're trying to tell. It honestly feels way too real to be made up. Everyone will find something offensive these days, but people will get angry at the slightest stupid thing these days. Keep writing, please!

chroniclesoffire

Why are people trying to force anger into something that doesn't warrant it, when there's plenty of things in the world that would deserve that energy. Misplaced energy serves nobody πŸ˜”. Well I'm a recent sign up, so stick with your vision it will still find an audience and let the toddlers have their tantrums

Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays are always better when I have a comic waiting for me, Thanks man I really appreciate the effort you put into Betweenfailures I can see it means alot to you and I hope and pray for a BF series or movie one day, Please keep them coming.

Ren Doiron

Will definitely be with you, buddy. Please continue making your personal creative vision a reality.

People do realize that these are fictional characters, right? And that they don't have to read the comic if they don't like it? That being said, when it comes to stretching yourself I want to cast my vote for spin-offs. I'm desperate to read Halfling Casanova and Fancy Giraffe Girlfriend.

Robin Newberry

I'm in for the long haul.
