Hi it’s danny

Hello from some place not korea

Hi it’s danny

Comments

Listening to this in October 2019, so a little late to the discussion. I did however want to write a little note about why I was attracted to the content on DKDKTv. Both you and David remind me of the friends I had growing up in Vancouver, especially when we would have discussions that would get into full blown debates, and that’s what made us such good friends. I honestly don’t think I would watch the videos without that banter between the two of you. Danny, you are under a lease and that sucks. I understand that feeling of being so consistently watched by people, who are constantly doubting that you have what it takes to make it. But if anything that’s why achieving your personal definition of success is all the sweeter. So in your case you gotta get that fuck you money, so that whatever they have done you pales in comparison to what they feel about themselves once they see how much you have grown.🏆

Cait

This made me so sad :( 파이팅 ✊ hope your feeling a bit better. Please continue on YouTube you are hilarious 😆

Nicole Lee

After this fiasco Perez Hilton, Philip Cameron, myself I & many other Western pop journalist bloggers including big guys at NME, Rolling Stone are going to blow that toxic Nazi portion of Army out of the water. Those fucking twinks are toast. And if General Namjoon doesn’t admonish his rapist threatening fanFringe then there be a boycott coming BTS’s way too. Cowards and tacit supporters of violence against women if they don’t reign in their ranks. In the meantime don’t COVER BTS at all. Shut them out completely like their fans say they want. Give Monsta X, Got 7, Black Pink, Holland and all the rest your sole energy. If the Army want to dictate BTS news and publicity let them fucking well do it THEMSELVES. If BTS Army says the best English Kpop show on YouTube doesn’t deserve them; then fuck BTS and dump their sellout to video game Big Hit pipe dreams. They’re going down anyway. BTS World... fkn please. Should be a fun meeting.

Chaz Emery

I want to say so much but I'll keep it simple. Everything you are is valid. It's the kpop Stan culture that needs to change. Stan culture in the general really. Do what's good for you. And stop fucking apologizing. You said what you said!

Lysieblu

So dramatic! You have half million subscribers still. What are we? chopped liver!

D

Also, I don’t expect you to continue the podcasts after this but I have to say that I really loved listening to the two episodes that are up and would greatly appreciate it if you kept doing them. They are my favorite type of content alongside DK news.

Elina Martin

Hi! I just want to say that I really love your channel and a big reason for that is because you give such an honest and interesting perspective on different topics. I think your personality and way of discussing things is what keeps me interested and excited every time a new video comes. I won’t always agree but your arguments are always good and interesting to hear/consider. It’s way more boring when content is filtered in order to please everyone... and to be honest, people might dislike controversial figures but at the same time they can’t keep their eyes off of them. Not everyone will understand your personality and the way your mind works but at the same time some people love those parts of you. It’s important to stay true to yourself. Although, I do agree that perhaps sometimes you should be more respectful to others haha. When it comes to the podcast... I find them super interesting and despite the fact that I love BTS to death, I didn’t get offended at all from the podcast. I watched it and enjoyed it, and only later when I went back to read some comments, was really surprised and taken aback about all the hate you guys were receiving. It almost felt like many were looking to get offended and just enjoyed jumping on the hate bandwagon. I understand that it’s a lot but just try to not think about it. I’m sure most people will forgive and forget at some point. Also, they say any publicity is good publicity.

Elina Martin

Your inner strength has been challenged in a way you never expected. It's only moment like this that you find out how truly strong you are. The biggest issue with being a public figure is being wide open for critique and criticism. Which yourself and David have been dealing with for a while now. This time around the extreme in which the criticism came was overwhelming and super critical. This would make anyone take pause and reflect. What I've found is that both you and Tamar were direct, blunt and honest in your comments and discussion. I can't tell you how to feel in this moment. What I can say is don't dwell to much or too long on this. Take this time to reflect, regroup and move on. Discuss with David where you guys want to take DKDKTV going forward. However the balance you too give to one another is important and what I've come to love about the both of you. You're good at what you do, so by no means should you stop because of this one experience. But also know this will be the first of many that you face in all aspects of your life. Grow from this, not just as a creative artist, but as a human being.Take it from someone who has many more years on this earth than you. This too shall pass.

Bklyngirl913

Don’t waste too much time on self-reflection or worrying about your career while you’re on vacation. A lot of times the best moments of clarity happen when you’re relaxed and not thinking too much about work, so I feel like you should take this time to calm down and regain confidence in yourself. Later when your mind is clearer you’ll know what to do.

kannade

Hi Danny! Just enjoy your holidays~

LalaS

also much love. glad to hear from you. <3

Eri

A common criticism I've seen on twitter that I think you guys should debunk if you ever do a public video addressing this issue is that you built your channel on clicks for BTS and were clout chasing. You guys have an entire video on your channel already explaining how you are not a BTS channel. You stated that when you did reaction videos you did every group; That you have a ton of content that is not BTS related; That you sometimes skip BTS news purposefully because you feel like you feature BTS too much; and that BTS gets the most explained videos because not all Kpop songs are complex enough to warrant an entire explained video. This seems to be a huge misconception among the ARMY that only know your BTS content because they ONLY watch your BTS content. They saw you as ARMY that had a BTS channel and felt betrayed by your comment in the podcast. Therefore, everything they knew about you was fake and you were just clout chasers. This is the root problem as to why many ARMY felt the one or two comments made in the podcast were unacceptable and you saw nothing wrong with the content at all. This is the misunderstanding-you all are a news and culture channel, not a BTS stan channel. Just cause you aren't a BTS stan doesn't mean you are a hater. In fact, you both love BTS. I don't believe your tears at the rose bowl were fake! people need to understand this distinction and let it all go.

Eri

Lol, this is exactly what I was thinking - he's the Howard Stern of K-Pop. Now that would be something to lean into, lol.

Kristina

Duality 🙏🏼

I didn't agree with what was said in the interview, but I like disagreements because they help me refine my opinion. I was upset you fed into the trolls. I certainly appreciate DKDKtv, especially the explainer videos, and Id be sad if they go away. I appreciated your thoughtful criticism of kpop lyrics 🤷‍♀️💆‍♀️

Anna

Good to hear from you and glad you have the ability to physically get away from the drama. Some of the best entertainment journalists/personalities have gone thru similar and worse media firestrorms, and they survived and became successful. I'm sure you will, too. There are also some very famous "assholes" (by your definition) that found great success in podcasting and radio shows and are respected for their polarizing styles. Sounds like you would make a great "shock jock"! It takes a lot of skill and control to be able to manage that style of entertainment and remain likeable. Howard Stern is an excellent example. You could be the Howard Stern of Kpop! (That would actually be pretty funny, low key) Whatever you decide to do, there is a place for you and you will find it :)

Hatchett

Thanks for letting us know how you're doing! I think you are asking good questions just like the critical, smart person you seem to be. So i just want you to factor into your analysis that it's really the combo of you and David that makes this channel compelling. As much as I like David I'm not sure I'd watch as consistently if it was just David. Your unique voice and willingness to dig into deeper sometimes more unpleasant aspects of this industry and your willingness to engage in cross cultural communication is precisely why I value you and why most of the more than 500,000 subscribers you still have value you. Think of this as a chance to shed the toxic reactionaries. Also, no your response wasn't professional, it was personal, you and Tamar were getting severely bullied and saying something to fight back is only human. Frankly your response could have been much worse. People talk about your channel's responsibility but Army very rarely talk about their/our responsibility as a fandom who is large and powerful to not engage in mindless hate mobs and fucking antisemitism. God that's so gross. Change careers if you need to for you health and happiness but know we'll miss your unique, informative, and often inspiring voice. Thanks for being you! (PS I think you are very likable!) :)

Aubrey

It's hard to ignore assholes. It's a learning experience. Try to be more gentle with yourself. Also, you are a likeable character. Kpop fans are nuts. The internet is nuts. I will support you no matter what you do. If you made a youtube channel talking about why you're fed up with k-pop, I'd still follow you and support you. Honestly the polar opposite dynamic between you and David is one of the things that people love about your channel. I am one who also loves offensive humor, and there's a huge market for that on YouTube - if not moreso. Don't give up. Honestly if you made a channel for non-family friendly content I would LOVE that and I'm sure a lot of other people would too. Maybe making your own channel and allowing yourself to do that separately? I think having your own space to do that would be incredibly helpful so that you wouldn't feel creatively stifled. I support you, you are doing great. And you're hilarious.

I second this idea :)

Caroline Song

(((Danny))) Look. I found your channel because of BTS. I stayed because of you and David. I'll be here when/if you decide to come back because I enjoy your content - not because of any other reason. Yes, do apologize for the childish comments. I would say don't address anything you cannot control which includes how people are acting on Twitter. You are likable. I like and support you. Be yourself. Be real. Be edgy! David tempers out your hard edges the same way you temper his. Just remember, a wise man once said that you can please some of the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time but not all of the people all of the time.

Mary Hodge

Maybe you should lean into it and make "go fuck yourself in the ass 500 times" your new catchphrase? Just sign off every video with "And remember kids, if you don't agree with me..." We'll all get t-shirts made. It'll be great.

3xdeadsmith

Your response to the hate was emotional and unprofessional but it was also human. You were being attacked mercilessly. I understand why you reacted the way you did. I was on Twitter for a month and I deleted it because it's so toxic. You didn't ruin channel. I think most of your fans are loyal and understand what you were saying. Your assessment of how ARMYs misinterpreted your words and blew it up was exactly correct. As for whether or not this job is for you, only you can decide that. But you are young and this is a learning experience. As for you being a likable character, I like you precisely because you speak your mind and you're honest. You're not hindering David or the channel. People love the fact that you have very different opinions and you both provide balance to each other. Maybe it's because I'm not 15 years old but I think you're awesome the way you are.

Caroline Song

I will support you as long as your around and I hope that you do perservere through this mess but if you don't I understand that as well. I think it's very unfair the way people hold David to such a higher regard than you. You are both great just two different people with different personalities and you shouldn't be compared. Anyways, much love, and I hope you feel better and figure out what will make you happiest <3

First, I am glad that you are taking time off. Honestly, I've been wondering for a while after watching your videos if you're burnt out. I am happy that you are on holiday and please take as much time as you need to feel better. It sucks that it had to be this way but I happy that you've made time to figure out what makes you happy and where you want to go in the future. It made me sad to hear you questioning the validity of your voice. I hope you don't change who you are to appeal to the masses. I like how you push the envelop and take a risk to talk about how the kpop industry (including our faves) can be problematic. Just because David is the "nice one" doesn't mean his approach is always best. (I love you too David lol). I have mixed feelings because I would love to see you guys continue together but if it is affecting your mental health and you feel like you have to police yourself all the time, is it worth it? I'm glad you apologized for cussing out people and took responsibility for it. This whole incident has made me think about cancel culture and I was wondering how you would respond. I'm relived that you didn't double down on the insults and acknowledged that you could stand to express yourself more respectfully. I'm not cancelling you because you have shown that you are willing to be accountable and grow. I truly wish you well in the days to come and hope you find your bliss!

Isa

Danny, I think you are stronger than you realize. Your talent is your authenticity, never lose that. Whatever you decide to do you have our support.

Melissa

Hey, just here to say that there are still those of us who like you... Please enjoy your vacation and take your time. We'll be here when/if you come back 🐥

Holland L. Paige

Get back in there and keep being you. Poor David is so exhausted from apologizing that I may have to to tell him to get over it. Must be a Korean thing to apologize so much. This seems excessive by American standards. Time to move forward and brining is your unique content that we adore, Live you and your channel. Ready, set, go!

Alix Alvarado

For the life of me, I cannot understand these “crazy” kpop people. They are like mean girls. KPop is fun and entertaining. I feel disappointed and frightened when I see their behavior and horrid posts used to hurt others.

Alix Alvarado

At the end of the day if you feel the compensation for this work does not push away the negative aspects then it might be worth it to step away. At least you had this experience. I hope you comeback and continue but with how sensitive Kpop fans are you know this will happen again unless you become someone you arent. Plus you saw how Armys still trash Tamar for something that happened a year ago. They won't forget this or forgive you at least not the truly vindictive ones. I think all that should be kept in mind. But really do what is best for you.

The most important thing for me is that you are not fake. You and David are good foils for each other. I like you both. Selfishly, I hope you continue and do you. I do think you need to find your center and figure out how you can tone down some of the f.u comments and not take them personally. Please continue with counseling and find your joy.

Lorraine Bennett

The way I see it. You've got 2 options. Apologise and grovel, watch your mouth, promise to never talk about bts again and just leave it to david OR lean into it. Have a show where you talk about unpopular opinions of your patreons and give your opinion on them. Anyone who gets triggered during a show about unpopular opinions is a moron.

Mae

Hi Danny. You've really been on my mind. I'll be back to comment again when I have more time. I wanted to respond immediately even if only briefly. I truly believe you will get back on your feet with this and figure out a way to make things work out. Yes, you will eventually have to take responsibility for some of the things you spoke about here, but there will be time for that. Right now, just focus on what you need to feel better. You have so many people behind you and I hope you will reach out for whatever support you need whether it's from us, personal, or professional. I appreciate you so much, Danny. I love the content you create. I appreciate your opinions, sincerity, and edginess. I appreciate and care for you as a person. Most warmly, Jill

J. Ezbet

So glad to hear you are well, Danny! You can't please everyone- you are a likable character! I like how self aware you are and that you do have flaws (we all have flaws, but you don't hide yours). Whether you continue with YouTube or not, I wish a fulfilling life for you.

Jade F.

It's funny (not funny ha-ha - more of a "Heh"), seeing the thoughtful, supportive responses of us, your Patreons, and the wildfire cancel/lies/insanity of stn Twitter. Basically, it's the grownups versus the children, since it's the adults that have the money to be Patreons. The adults listened and heard the nuance in the podcast. Nothing controversial was said. The children (or those acting like children) were ready to pounce before hitting play. They were ready to believe the lies that were spread without checking for themselves. They're the ones who think it's some kind of game to win, to ruin someone's life. As long as it trends, yo. I think that's what it comes down to...what kind of audience do you each want to have? It seems that's where the divide might be - adults versus kids. Danny, your humor is more geared towards us, the adults. We get the sarcasm and nuance, which I love. David is, like you said, more family-friendly, which I also love. I love the juxtaposition between you two. It's just that when it comes to K-Pop and YouTube, those may not mesh well. The kids far out-number the adults. Maybe it would work better if there was a different focus, one without a toxic fandom. Maybe it would work better as two different channels. I don't know that answer, but I trust you two will figure that out. I really appreciate your authenticity here. That was a scary avalanche of hate. It scared me to watch, so I can only imagine how this affected you both. I hope you have a chance to clear your head, and take whatever steps you need to find your way. You each have a unique voice and unique gifts to offer others. I think you can both find your audience, if that's what you choose. Love to you both - we're still here for you. ETA: I just re-read what I wrote, and realized that I didn't sound supportive of you two continuing together, and that wasn't my intent. I think it would be brilliant. I'm more concerned for your mental health though, both of you, so was throwing out ideas where you maybe wouldn't have to deal with a hair-trigger fandom, while still being true to yourselves. Cuz that was some bullshit.

Kristina

I’m also ARMY and I saw nothing wrong with what you said in the interview. ARMYs need to understand that this is a Korean wave channel, not a K-pop channel and not a BTS fan club. But immature ARMYs only see what they want to see and blamed you when you didn’t live up to the heir fantasy.

Caroline Song

I'm an ARMY and I don't feel like you should change who you are but just know the time and place. Be critical of ones work, say your opinion, have your side but choose your words wisely is all people ask. Be angry show your emotions but choose your words wisely. I'm so glad you are doing good. I'm glad you're taking time off and enjoying it. I was worried about you. We ducks are here to support you Danny. We have opinions and emotions just like you and sometimes they differ from yours and that's ok. VIPs were upset over something ARMY are upset over something you will upset one fandom every once in awhile or you wouldn't be doing your job correctly. Just choose your words wisely. Enjoy your time away from social media. 💜🦆💜🦆💜🦆

Esther Morales

honestly people are way too sensitive about shit like this, people are always gonna hate on opinions they dont agree with. your fans like the authentic you, so just do your best to be yourself. if you dont wanna do youtube anymore then thats totally okay! just make sure to make the desicion with a clear mind. idk drop youtube and become a goat farmer in the alps if thats what makes you happy dude

Kyuora

you do have thick skin, but even that can wear thin sometimes. tbh i think your reaction was totally normal, i would've told them to fuck off too lmao but since this is your career it was unprofessional but whatever, ya live and ya learn. tbh i dont even call myself an army coz i dont wanna be related to the people who go super insane with these kind of things (theyre fuckin' crazy lol). im sorry you gotta go through this dude, but im sure you and david will work your way back up. good luck with all this, and i hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday!

Kyuora

One of the reasons DKDKTV works so well is because of the contributions both you and David put into the channel. I don't want to live in a sugar coated kpop world where important issues are easily swept under the rug. I like the wholesome and lighthearted vibe David brings to the channel and I like that you push the boundaries and force people to think about what they'd rather ignore. I think we can all agree your comments in the live stream were unnecessary, but even the most thick skinned person can lose their composure when exposed to hateful, racist and anti-Semitic comments. If you still enjoy YT, I say keep going and you and David tweak your craft, but in a business like this please please take care of your mental health. I hope all three of you can recover from the hate from stan twt and toxic ARMY. Thank you for your apology regarding the live stream comments and thank you for your thoughts.

Thank you so much for opening to us about your feelings. It's not easy to let people know you're vulnerable (?) at the moment, but it is damn brave! DKDK TV would not be the same without you, because you both being opposites gives us like a wide angle. We'd be like "I'm with Danny", but then David says something else that's like "fuck" or viceversa. Even though you guys are an AMAZING duo, your health should be your priority. Yes, you can make a living from Youtube, but if you're not happy, then why bother? Take all the time you need to think and decide what is it that makes you happy. I'll support your decision no matter what! Btw: your humor is fking amazing lol I totally get you!

Nany

Thank you for saying this better than I could.

Think of it like "Stepping stone" I can give you from my experience been failing my Medical Specialty board Exam for two years and on my 3rd year anyone else would stop and change specialty but I'm very competitive person I learned from my previous mistakes and reasons why i'm failing and on my 3rd year I made it and I was happy that I never gave up thinking im a failure... So dont doubt yourself keep going and do what you do best, remember the good things you've done and made and move on from there :D

maiz

Hey Danny you really should have THICK THICK skin, I think what escalated the issue when you started replying back in the live chat! I too thought it was childish, but its a lesson to learn from and no worries you will get new subscribers soon... you guys are really lovable people everyone needs to take sometime off after shitty experience, so heal up, get your mind clear and come back to us ♥

maiz

You have value in DKDKTV. Your ideas have pushed some of the most special and meaningful content about korea on your channel. I dont think you need to be fake on your channel. I think that both you and David have a lot to learn from each other if I'm honest. Being respectful is important (and you should apologize publicly for the livestream comments) but all of us have things to learn in terms of being the best people we can be. Ultimately though, I cant speak on anyone else but I love you both and respect you both and sometimes I want to shake both of you but you both have the capacity to be good, kind, people who contribute positively to a better world by being your true selves. I do think you need to take strides to better your mental health and coping skills. I have concerns and I still want you to have a second opinion like we discussed and I mean this because I'm worried. You may have a label but so does pewdiepie in some circles and if he can turn a negative into something super positive you can too. This too shall pass. Ugh I have so many thoughts and I really want to talk them through with you this comment box isnt nearly enough but we are here for you regardless.

Lauren Freeman

Life wouldn’t be the same without you Danny. Have a nice vacation

Don’t worry Danny. Not all ARMY has cancelled you. Sending you lots of love. Just try to relax and let it blow over. Enjoy the time to yourself.

good luck out there bro

Sending all of my love and support! Take care of yourself.

Bethany Grimes

Have fun on vacation. Relax and try to clear your mind. Your fans will be here when you get back.
