I wanted to add that after years of teaching East Asian teens and young adults (which Danny has grown past) I have learned that a laugh CAN signal vulnerability and at times even embarrassment. But having followed Danny and getting a feel for his character, and the context, I think if there is a PSTD vulnerability in the laugh, yet I also see it as Danny not quite believing the toxic in credibility of the situation that the #naziArmy faction created here and that he is in the very incredibly ironic position that he needs to kowtow to the absolute cultural terrorism that #naziArmy faction has put on DKDKTV’s livelihood and the threats that a Jewish woman he interviewed. If there is one thing incredible to me is that Tamar, a women doing her job with professional detachment is being threatened with rape and violence - and don’t tell me it’s some random troll. They wouldn’t care enough. I’m betting it’s an extreme psychoArmy in the ranks. It’s an interesting reaction that I find endearing. I also think it is a relief of the same underlying anger I am more used to throwing out there. I can see if Danny tries to express the anger he should rightfully feel - he can’t so he rolls his eyes and laughs. (How am I doing Danny hon? Projecting my emotions or reading you well?) I am starting to see how David is logically reacting to how to not be bullied again. I see this as a bit weak but easy to say when it’s not my project. As a teacher I’ve had to do the same or get fired. I often quit. Now I can go to my union and stand up to complaints if I’m in the right or if I have lost it and dropped some F-bombs. But I’ll tell you what. If you guys stand up to #naziArmy faction and dress them down for their racist, toxic, sexist harassment of your hosts: my $5 a month goes to $20. I can’t state enough (and I’m all over this with it) as a former Queer Nation activist how DISGUSTED I am at the callous, toxic behaviour #naziArmy has shown here - probably mostly Western white fans - many of them cougar aged women (30-40s) who feel ENTITLED to treat the BTS MEN as fragile teenage boys (it comes off as THAT pederastic infantalizing and emasculation of attractive young Asian men I saw too much from GWM toward Asian men in the 90s. Some of it is insecure teens and defensive young gay men but a lot of it is these older women “protecting our babies”). Maybe, to be REALLY generous, some don’t want to see the Shinee tragedy again but I highly doubt most of the harassment is anything other than people living their stardom dreams through the stars they idolize. Such bullying is a juvenile pederastic yaoi cultish way to go about “promoting” their stans that will basically destroy the message of BTS to spread self-empowerment and alternative views to toxic masculinity. So my only criticism here is that DKDKTV is even considering making plans to cave in to this appalling behaviour. I kindly say, understanding your vulnerability there in Korea with Western stans: Grow a fucking journalist’s spine and outer shell. To remain as professional as you now are; you will need to, in the future, tell #naziArmy to kindly “GFYITA. I have a work life to get back to. Best of luck and glad you guys are back.

2019-07-30 18:51:36 +0000 UTCAlso, I have to say to David, you are misunderstanding Danny's giggles here. Danny's laughing is a common coping strategy for someone going through trauma. Actually, it is a very very common coping strategy among men. I know that you both are dealing with this in your own way. David is going into protection mode/problem-solving mode. Let's take this measure, put this plan in place, create this clause, etc. He is busy trying to prevent another disaster which, in the end, nothing can be completely controlled or prevented because you are dealing with other people. You can't control others' perception of your comments, you can only try to minimize risk. You are going to get through this, it will pass because you provide something very valuable to the community. Keep producing great content and people won't be able to ignore you. Most people would misunderstand how you are both coping here so I don't blame David at all for not recognizing Danny's giggling, but I thought I should point it out.

He expressed his opinion that was unfavorable of the Bighit team for the amount of content that BTS puts out. Anytime BTS does anything they will get coverage in the media because they are so popular. People like to hear about them. So every little thing gets reported on causing a bunch of media exposure, but when the content isn't always good (aka weverse/bts world) more content does not help your brand and causes the casual general audience to get annoyed/bored with them. He said nothing critical of the boys, their talent, or their artistry. It was mainly the marketing and the Bighit team. ARMY is often also critical of Bighit. Ironically ARMY freaking out over every perceived slight and bastardizing people on social media for opinions they disagree with creates clout chasers. THat's because no one can be honest of their opinion if it is negative. look what happened to Kenny's channel after his reaction to Idol. At the same time though ARMY loves to accuse everyone who mentions BTS of being clout chasers. So hypocritical. Keep stating your opinion Danny and don't let people bully you into agreeing with them. As you mentioned David is more of the fanboy and Danny is more of the industry/business fan. His critique makes perfect sense.

I guess there is a big cultural difference here too: you have Canadian culture commenters like myself - raised in a culture of cynically parodying anything that gets too popular (we even mercilessly tease Justin Bieber and his Beliebers - a mock fan base name) and Cameron Philip who couldn’t give a flying fuck about the FANatics think - he has MILLIONS of views for basically ridiculing the facade of BTS in his dub series - and you have Armys who might come into your Patreon and bitch and moan enough to dictate your content ??? THAT is totally FOREIGN yet fascinating to me. So I can intellectually see the harsh waters Ducks swim in. But I think it’s a goddamn shame you guys have to swim on these eggshells. Also, that whole tentative vibe and fear of fan fascism will slowly kill Kpop in the West - the only musicians with longevity in the West are those who say fuck off to convention. Even Justin Bieber had to pull up his record sales by going through a bad boy phase. Kpop needs an edge to maintain in the West. Not to the extent of Big Bang Sunrise but jikook should start actually making out next US tour or something fun. Bye for now and ganbatte.

And he was definitely speaking for me. If I here Boyz with Love one more time in the next two weeks... you can’t go anywhere during Vancouver Pride week without ... doowa doowa doowa intro. It’s like Rick Astley Together Forever or Ricky Martin all over again... glad you are back on. I still hate Armys for this hate but I love the Ducks. And #GFYITA is now a solid hashtag to rebut anymore ridiculous criticism by Army in future w/o energy. More seriously, As journalists you shouldn’t be in a fandom and you shouldn’t care what any fandom thinks - because they don’t think w Logos they just react w Pathos & they hv little Ethos - so “fuck fanbases” and keep doing an awesome job of impartial journalism; that’s professional.
