What you talked about in the first topic is actually really similar in Latvia. Most young people don't even expect that they will have pensions by the time they get old. There was this "fun" law project (not sure if that's the right way to call it, but it's like a suggestion of a law, that could become actual law) that suggested to rise pension age higher that average life expectancy age in our country. :D And it's also pretty much the same with schools, there's so few kids nowdays at classes, that a lot of countryside schools are getting closed and kids have to go long distances to the closest city schools. And most people that are my age (late twenties) are still struggling to find a decent job and honestly just find their place in life, so planning a family and kids are nowhere close in their plans.

I made it to the end AND the podcast is three months old at this point. I don't know if this says more about the podcast or about me. (It was a long walk!) Anyway I'm starting to put together a drinking game: (1) Drink when Danny says he doesn't like to talk about personal stuff then talks about something personal at length; (2) Drink when Danny says he hasn't made up his mind about something then talks until he's made up his mind. The game doesn't get you very drunk because there's so much talking in between drinks -- so you can play at work.

I'm really enjoying the podcasts. I think that North Korea is not to be trusted. I think Trump meeting with Kim is a mistake because it is like paying attention to the kid that is acting badly. The fact that human rights are never on the table is infuriating. I don't buy that NK is getting rid of their nuke program. There has been evidence to show that they're not. I think what happened is that with the last test they did possibly collapsing the tunnel where they test that it is going to take some time to dig another place to do the testing. So, in the meantime, why not appear to play ball? The housing situation makes me sad for the young people of Korea. My husband and I purchased our first home shortly after we got married (in 1996 hello old person here.) It sucks that Korean couples cannot do the same.

On this side of the world people generally have the same point of view towards North Korea as you. Whenever you tell someone “Oh, we want to go on vacation to Korea” etc you’re met with a lot of reactions where people just stare at you wide eyed because they immediately think you are going to North Korea. Or they think South Korea is the same as North. But personally I don’t trust NK yet either, imo they should have denuclearized already or they should’ve kick Jong Un out on his ass and started working on restoring human rights to their people. In regards to the unemployment and housing costs in SK; I now kind of feel bad that I'm job searching in a lot of countries, including SK. I know my area of expertise is a very niche job market that not a lot of people know about or even attempt to get into, but still it makes me think a lot about it. tbh lately I was just watching the reactions put out to get your opinion on the music and not for the sake of watching the reaction. I think Danny of the Seoul sounds good; But I found myself actually unintentionally shortening it to Seoulcast. The ending song is not my style but I actually liked it a lot

ah it’s so refreshing to hear what’s going on from someone who actually experiences it vs what i hear from overseas. i’m a politics and sociology student so we frequently touch on the housing crisis here, too. even in a state as small as oklahoma it’s pretty bad. most people my age (21-27) have given up a lot on their dreams of housing individually as well. i don’t actually know anyone that doesn’t house with 2-3 roommates even after college. it’s a bit depressing and i’m totally rambling but: amazing podcast thank you for keeping me entertained during my work shift. 🤙🏼

Yeah I guess this is a trend in basically every metropolitan area. Housing is a basic human need yet for most people it seems impossible to own a house.

So housing is a bitch in a lot of places. Here in the San Francisco Bay Area it takes an average person 25 years to save enough for a down payment on the average house. A down payment can vary from ~5% to 20% of the total value of the house. So if it takes someone 25 years to save enough for a down payment they are probably not going to qualify for a home loan. Therefore homeownership is mute for the average person. Btw the biggest up-tic in US home ownership, in relatively recent times is from the creation of the Federal Housing Act in the 1930's and then the booming post- WW 2 economy. In general before that you needed 50% down payment since there was no Federal backing for bank loans. Irony there is that many don't understand that much of the US's quality of life is based on "Socialist-like" principals of the FHA and others, not Capitalism vis a vis Adam Smith's "laissez faire" economics.
