What Koreans Think of IU? (Early Access)

agree to disagree. even without understanding, IU's voice is very soothing and full of emotion. she always had an international fanbase and a growing international popularity after her appearance in Dream High. but I think a lot of her i-fans are around my age. most of the younger fans that are more active on social media tend to be more familiar with newer-gen idol groups.

2018-10-25 17:27:52 +0000 UTCI can see why she is popular in Korea and why not internationally. This type of music is language-dependent. What I mean is that you need to hear it in a language you at least can understand. If I could understand Korean I would probably like her, although the genre isn’t my favorite. In the more outward expressive genres like pop and rock the music and singing can ‘tell’ you the lyrics. It is why BTS (who seem to really have mastered it) and on a smaller scale Babymetal have been able to sing in Korean and Japanese and people who don’t understand the languages still get a lot out of it. I’ve seen both live and especially if you know what the song is about through translations you can ‘feel’ the lyrics even if you can’t translate it during the singing.
