Sadly I can’t make it today but hope you all have a good discussion and I’ll try and watch later. Article: http://www.koreaherald.com/view.php?ud=20200717000058

Have you guys seen the article detailing how trump enjoys working with all Asian leaders except president moon and that he think South Koreans are terrible people? Came out yesterday. He also said he doesn’t know why the US send military presence to help them because the US isn’t paid... 2 questions: 1. Do you think this non endorsement from trump helps moon’s popularity in Korea or is it a non issue to Korean people? 2. If US pulled troops or a majority of troops out of SK, How will it impact NK and SK relations? Or does it not do much due to economic situations?

Eri

Just my two ₩. #1 — Some white women just need attention. This one is particularly looking for any attention, be it negative or positive. She also seems to love to push buttons. Personally, I don't spend too much time on white women like this one. Time will tell how well she fares. #2 — Victor's Daechwita video smokes! Wow! Seems really petty to me to fire someone over a broken drum stick. Is it defamation if he is reporting his side of the story? Seems to me he has the right to countersue. But then again, I am not a lawyer!

mothermade

I believe her husband said she wrote the whole song.

JodiegrlOT7

I’m confused by the title above. Are fans accusing her or has she actually stated she wrote the whole song?

As far as her contribution, I have no interest in nitpicking what she did or didn’t do..I know she didn’t 100% write the song as she claimed, but beyond that What’s she does is between her and BTS. However, neither she or her husband speak Korean. And V doesn’t speak English...it doesn’t take a genius to figure this one out. He wrote the song or his lyrical preferences in Korean, it was translated to English by a BH translator or even Namjoon, then sent to MF for her to work on lyrics and whatever else she does, then sent back. And her role is very important from an English speaking perspective because she can use her background to clarify references, help fluency and musical flow in a different language than the other writers. But that does not mean that she should be portraying herself and touring the media as the only writer of the song when it was written by v, her and several other writers from BigHit. She is not the great white Hope saving the poor befuddled Asian people from bad music.

BTS Super Fan

And yes, I absolutely wonder why the hell BigHit still works with her given her prior racist comments she has posted on Twitter...using the N word, disparaging African culture, stereotyping Asians and Black people.

BTS Super Fan

This woman is in the US purposely hiding the contribution of minority artists , including BTS, but every other Asian artist who works on BTS songs. She has done it repeatedly for her personal gain. She does NOT behave this way with the her white collabs and artists she works with. She has a documented history of saying racist comments and belittling Asian culture. She should take credit where credit is due her but don’t try to suppress the work of all the other writers and producers who contributed to these songs. If you are Asian and don’t see a problem with that behavior from American songwriters, then you are shortsighted about the racial and xenophobic issues that ALL Asians face in America. I am a person of color from America and it offends me because there is a long history in the US music industry of these types of abuses against minorities. She should be called out for her behavior.

BTS Super Fan

Yes! Finally can make it to the livestream! TY DKDK

Also when it comes to them saying "oh we wrote every single word there" While Namjoon in his live said that it took him 3 days to figure out the melody they sent because they couldn’t put Korean lyrics on it so they had to change the whole thing...

Part 1: Well, see my little essay on the Discord-Chat ^^' Like Shahli said it's not about her name in the credits. It's because she makes everything about her and uses BTS for Clout. And her husband even commented on instagram that they „wrote, in fact, every single word in Sweet Night" So how come Hiss Noise, Adora and V also have writing credits? Something is really fishy here. Overall she seems like a horrible person. I just wish BH ends their collaborations. I don’t need any announcements now, I just don’t want to see her or her husbands name on any new songs. There are other talented people out there to work with.

Daniela Dittrich

Someone said "A talented songwriter/musician can help uplift the primary artist w/o needing to be in the limelight themselves. This doesn't mean they're not valuable. But there is a difference between being someone who adds elements here and there vs. the creator spearheading the project." Taking the whole credit, acting like you wrote the whole record by yourself and constantly saying "my song", " I broke the record" Is shitty and ignorant. Nobody says she shouldn't be credited cause she worked for these to but she shouldn't act like these records belong to her. Also her turning Sulli's suicide to something about herself was simply disgusting

Mellon Tae

I understand that she has to get credit for writing the song in the beginning. But when you listen to RMs Album Livestreams you get to know how little if the original song proposal is left in the song. And I'm sorry she's a songwriter, and some point she has to except that it's their song. And stop running around acting like she's a freakin popstar. If she wants to do that she should perform her own songs. But clearly she can't.

charlie90

I hope You guys get that it's not about her name in the credits but about how she used bts for clout, making everything about her (for example when sulli died). She is part of the problem why bts is struggling to finally getting critically recognized. As long a white Westerner is working on their songs they will only talk about them but not about what creative effort bts put in. Allegedly she also tried to sell her selfies with bts... In the end bh wants to work with her... I don't approve because she made racist comments in the last or told ppl to kill themselves.. and now she's being called out for her behavior and is whining about how mean the internet is...

charlie90

No one says she shouldn't get credited. But there is a huge difference between saying "I co-wrote this song with V" or claiming they "wrote, in fact, every single word in Sweet Night“. So then what did Adora and Hiss Noise and V do? They all got writing credits.

Daniela Dittrich

I will also bring up this point that part of the problem is that she is featured in articles all over the place and asked hard hitting questions about songwriting while bts get questions from western media like, “who do you want to collaborate with next?”, “do you have anything to say to your ARMY?” and “who is the best dancer!?” This perception is the problem. I understand her need to hype achievements on songs she worked on as this is her career and promotion brings her more opportunity, however, she repeatedly fails to listen to fan complaints about this issue and even suggests that she needs to explain songwriting to us because we don’t understand... I really need Danny and David to spar over this topic. Help, I’m biased and can always think clearer after listening to many perspectives.

Eri

For Victor, I had felt sorry when you first mentioned about him on DK News. Has his action really affected the group that badly? If so, maybe leaving the group would be a wise decision as of respect to other members like in the case of Wonho. But, Wonho signed with another company under Starship so I would wish the same thing for Victor. I think he is very talented. You can check his drum covers on his channel. I particularly liked his Agust D '대취타' cover: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uUVWnRW234

Evelyn M

So, did I miss it?

Mercedes

For 1st topic: I am a bit torn about this one. She has worked with BTS now for a long time and she co-write major songs like Boy with Luv, ON, and so forth (I checked this from Koreaboo.com, so not sure about the credibility). Yes, she has mentioned the songs' achievements as a bragging manner but if Bighit had a problem with her attitude, they would have stopped working with her long ago. She also mentioned Bighit and BTS on her tweets about the achievements. Also, Sweet Night is fully in English, I don't think V could write a whole song in English and only need a few adjustments by Melanie. I think she should be given enough credit on her work. Some would say, the song is charted for so long because of V, but I think since it is in English, it has reached to more audience so lyrics are important as well.

Evelyn M

The Melanie Fontana thing wouldn't have blown up the way it did if it weren't a pattern of behavior. Claiming Euphoria and Boy with Luv were *her songs, despite contributing only a few lyrics. She also claimed that she was a hidden vocal on Puma, when it was Adora. She posted about Sulli, but made it entirely about herself. She has a history of racist tweets. In this social climate a white writer who contributes to a song claims full credit when it comes to the accomplishments of poc artists, and then when people point out that fact she calls them racist against white people, is tone deaf at best. Also, there are plenty of collaborators that fans don't have an issue with. Army have no problems with Adora, Hissnoise, Pdogg, Slow Rabbit, Steve Aoki, Max, Halsey, Becky G., Wale, Ed Sheeran, Troye Sivan, the list goes on.... Everyone deserves credit for their own accomplishments, but not for the accomplishments of others. Especially considering that western audiences, media, and the music industry at large already fail to give BTS, other Kpop, poc, and non western artist credit for their work in general. If she and her husband want full credit there is a simple fix... they can fully write, produce, and perform their own music.

Hana Park

Yeah, I'm curious too about Topic 1 as per Eri's comment. Also what are your opinions on the new BTS Japanese songs please?

BTStrash

About topic 2: I did some brief research and the company fired him for “violent” breaking of a drumstick and claimed firing him was to protect the group image... Did anyone care about this issue or the “violence” on screen before they fired him? Did it actually hurt the group reputation or were they more fearing it would? Are there any articles or comments from Korean fans from before he was fired?

Eri

About topic 1: As Korean people does it bother you to see the verbiage of Melanie Fontana in relation to BTS achievements? is ARMY over sensitive due to the historical undermining of BTS’ achievements by western media? (As an ARMY myself I am having a hard time getting proper perspective on this)
