The musical,BYE BYE BIRDIE, was a comedy based on the fans reaction to a pop star going into the Army. Elvis served for 2 years as an active sargent, stationed in Germany, followed by 4 years in the Army reserve. Sadly,his mother passed away during his enlistment,and he was introduced to amphetamines and became addicted. Music had changed a lot in a short period of time, but Elvis returned to his career a very changed man.
