10 Weird Impressions about New York (raw edit ver.)

Ok, here's episode 2! Since you guys said you liked the last one!

I feel like this one is less interesting somehow but I wish you still enjoy it :)

Oh, and no offense to NYorkers, watch till the end!!!

10 Weird Impressions about New York (raw edit ver.)

Comments

Born and raised in New York here and I can't disagree with most of what you said. I have honestly not noticed the braless thing but you are not the first Korean YTer I've seen commenting on it. It might be due to whatever the predominant culture in the area is? I grew up in a mostly Hispanic area and people definitely would have commented if someone was constantly walking around braless. As for the laundromats it's because most buildings do not allow laundry machines in the units due to to the older plumbing. I believe new buildings are a little better about either allowing laundry in unit or at least having a laundry room in the building. I think a lot of New Yorkers do mind their own business and on the surface don't appear as friendly as on the west coast but I've seen many a New Yorker step up over the years to help tourists out and offer directions etc. when someone needs help.

“I saw a lot of cleavage” I mean like 75% of that was my fault since I was filming y’all 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Mel A Palmer

Westerners bare a lot of cleavage and the amount varies but they tend to show a lot of it as well as shoulder and collarbones. What I find amusing about Koreans is they will be horrified by all the cleavage but they will wear some of the shortest length of skirts.

I have not traveled to Korea. However, I work with ladies from Korea and their comments about the things they found odd and strange are on par with yours lol. They also have said having no bidet in bathrooms in US bathrooms were shocking to them because they are everywhere in Korea. They also echoed the sentiment about garbage and trash in public and wonder why westerners don't care more about the state of our environment (I wonder also). They also become annoyed with the lack of greetings when entering and leaving a room as they were trained from birth to do so (aka just a little respect).

LeAnn

As an American who just got back from vacationing in Korea, I'll say that all our mass transit systems are complete garbage in comparison to Korea. It's embarrassing. Every US city has tons of excuses for why, but we can and should do better.

Ok here's a New Yorkers pov: 1) NYC is one of the oldest cities in the United States. It existed before the Country did. Two of my ancestors were some of the original settlers of NYC. Everything south of Wall St is the original NYC. Wall St has that name because the street used to be the original settlement wall. The age of the city is why there is a lot of construction. Streets, pipes etc are always being replaced. 2) Yes the Subway is awful. In fact once they found the bubonic plague on various subway surfaces. Again the Subway system is over 100 years old. 3) I believe the flag thing was a result of WW2 propaganda. That's not just in NYC. It's all over the US. 4) Public Bathrooms: We don't have them. Generally you have to use the bathrooms at work and at home before you travel anywhere. We are trained at a very young age to go before you leave a place. Most businesses, except chain stores/restaurants, don't have public bathrooms for safety, health and legal reasons. 5)Economic disparity has always been a part of NYC. Economic Disparity has gotten exponentially worse all over the United States recently. The American Middle Class is almost extinct at this point. 6) It is very expensive in NYC. They tax everything because of property values and to increase the income from tourists. 7) The friendliness thing is an East Coast US thing. Though New Yorkers do come off aggressive, loud, and a bit mean, we are resilient, loyal, and always willing to help when called. Thanks for visiting us, and I hope you come back soon. Maybe try Philly or Boston too! P.S. Bras are the devil and I only wear them at work. If its cold maybe I'll wear a sports bra to keep the girls warm.

NYC is definitely a cultural shock when you first get here and then the chaos absorbs you after a while. You get use to the smell of piss. LOL I'm surprised you didn't see a lot of homeless people in LA. LA really has a homeless problem. Gentrification has been happening A LOT in the last few years. They are really trying to push the lower class out of NYC. That's why you see such a huge difference in social classes. Fun Fact: By Law, women can walk around topless NYC if they wanted too. I know all the spots for bathrooms in Manhattan you should have asked me. LOL And everyone in NYC is running late, that's why we walk so fast . Subway delays are almost a daily ritual, so always leave 30mins earlier than you plan. haha

David loved these thoughts. Here is a little more info. The subways (obviously planned poorly as they are over 100 years old and don’t fit today’s needs) do run on a schedule but they are not posted for every line. “60 Minutes” did a really interesting story on NY subway new head guy and they show how the lines are still run on a switch system from like forever ago. It’s crazy ( but also interesting). To update the entire system is very expensive - but it’s getting better. If you went to the Hudson Yards station or the new 2nd Ave line stations they would have been larger and cleaner and more of what you’re use to in Seoul. As for public bathrooms- are you crazy??? I would never go into a public bathroom in some subway stop. It wouldn’t be safe. And I had no problem doing that in Seoul. I agree that there is no good public bathroom system but that’s when you just go into a Starbucks (or if necessary McDonald’s but Starbucks would be better.) Obviously you are just visiting but if you lived here you would learn what places are on your daily route in case you needed to make a stop. As for stepping on that guy’s foot, you probably should have said something. Sure he knows that it’s rush hour and not your vault but still good to be polite. We NY’ers have less of a problem if someone bumps us in accident and apologizes then someone who blocks the door to the subway either on or off. Always step to the side, I’ve almost lost my s*** many times with people blocking the door. Also ... the homeless problem is becoming bigger and bigger in NYC. Believe me it is not that we don’t notice it but there is nothing I myself can do as I am walking down the street. You can’t say something when you don’t know what that persons mental status is. Hopefully something can be figured out soon. Oh and that smell in the city might have been weed. It is everywhere. I hope this doesn’t deter you from coming back. If you saw the city in the snow it is really great. Now you need to go to Miami...then you can talk about cleavage. Hahahha

Cathy

yeah im currently fixing the repeating part! and yeah, thats what i thought after filming it. but i hope it doesnt trigger many people

DKDKTV

TBH this is a really raw edit, right? Because it repeats at the beginning. I would say that in general it isn't very.....fun? Which is what I feel like you usually go for with your videos. It seems a little critical. I don't have a problem with that (as an American) but expect a possibly negative response.
