They seems to have more a precise message they're able to rally around where as the Conservative party seems more diverse/wide-spreading so they have a lot of different messages they're all trying to push so its not as effective. But as you said, there are extremes in everything that ruin it. I.e. Antifa and Alt-right. In literally anything, there will always be some who go too far and "ruin" it for everybody. Then the opposing people point at those extremists and paint that as the whole party. Another example is it is also true with unemployment benefits, food stamps, etc. There are people who abuse the system and then opponents of the system scream and shout and blow it up and paint it like everyone needing assistance are the abusers. YES to the part about your ex-gf not knowing about the political climate and such. It also annoys me soooo much when people are totally oblivious. They say things like, "Oh, I don't watch the news because it's all just depressing stuff blah blah". Then when they do speak about a topic, they're so misinformed or just dont know the latest about it because they're so out of the loop or they hear some crazy off-the-wall conspiracy shit and believe it because they're so ignorant and don't know better. It's like yeah, the news is a lot of "depressing" things, but you think sticking your head in the sand or up in the clouds and living in lala land is the way to lead a well-rounded, productive life and being a good member of society, I just dont even know. It's really important to be somewhat informed on the latest news especially if you live in in a country with a democracy. You should be aware what's going on in your government and what's going on with your rights. How else will you know if something is going on and you have to fight for your rights? Then those people would probably be complaining after a right was removed or changed. As I've gotten older, the more I see that people DO NOT care about a lot of things UNTIL it affects them directly. It angers me and a little bit saddens me when people don't know what's going on and are blindly fine or even happy about that. I agree, to be a good citizen of your state, province, country, even the world, please at least have a base knowledge and stay up to date. It is your duty (along with voting imo).
