Question about fanfics. I’ve only seen shipping videos and fanfics in English, is this popular among Korean fans too?

Toni Ott

As a former fanfic writer, I believe that a lot of the people who are protesting do not even know the concept of fanfic. FYI, no I would never write about someone who was younger than me, it was always older when it came to smut, majority of the idols I used to stan basically were older — so I had no issue. People tend to forget that it’s not just 18+ people who are writing fanfictions, there are underage fans that are also writing about someone in their age range. I never dabbled into yaoi ; having a male x male kind of story line since I was always writing original characters (alter-ego of myself) with the idol or a male idol with a female idol that they’re currently being shipped with (a popular ship) to garner a lot of readers to my stories. Personally, I never felt like it was my right to write about LGBTQ kind of fanfiction (especially on an idol) and when I did it would be an original character of mine. I guess I set myself some sort of limits that basically still made it appropriate for me since I still lack knowledge about the LGBTQ community. Also, I’m glad that girl did not take that drink that was offer to her. Me, personally, I would’ve taken the drink and raised the glass to the 사장님 (sighs... ffs) and with closed lips pretended to have taken a sip and just walk around abandoning the drink somewhere poured out. I don’t know I always pour out drink since you never know who’ll take it and just drink it since it’s free drink (America be like). Also, other websites for fanfics that I have knowledge is Wattpad (as mentioned), asianfanfics, Tumblr, livejournal, and Ao3 (archieveofourown) so whoever wanna fight people for being creative writers about YouTube celebrities, celebrities idols, TV shows, movies and books, etc whatever it is—good luck. There’s over millions of fanfictions on the Internet. Also, you two are not being homophobic about not liking the fact that someone mistook your sexuality, I believe nowadays the Internet love to label someone just because they share their opinion on a “sensitive” topic and thanks to Twitter it has been spreading like wildfire. Whoever kept pressing the issue about you two being homophobic are pretty much a problem and should understand that people like us accept the “love whoever you want to love, but that’s not us and we don’t roll that way”, heterosexual are starting to be looked as an issue for not going with the flow with whatever the LBGTQ does and automatically we’re being labeled as such. I know you two won’t care because you two know who you are and who you represent while standing in front of the camera, and like myself I simply do not care and have my own belief and respect for whatever it is that I believe is right. No matter what you say, people would nitpick and twist your words so it would’ve been best to just drop the whole homosexuality topic since people are still too narrow minded to comprehend how it can make a heterosexual person uncomfortable. That’s it.

I would have never been remotely interested in BTS if I hadn't nosedived into the ambw fanfic community and discovered Jungkook. I was like, "who is this man, doing these things?" Then, I rabbit-holed and here I am. 😅💜 Jimin has said that he reads our fanfiction and he was just like 😏😂. Also, fanfiction (especially gay) isn't exclusively apart of kpop...why are we acting like it is?

D'Layzia

Not being involved but being there is incriminating in itself. You're already an accomplice.

Soo about Irene, I kind of think it would've been a better apology if she admitted that her behavior wasn't right and not make it being something she did without knowing it was bad... like it's kind of as if she just put the blame on her not knowing better, not just having a bad behavior and about the gender wars I think both of the problems are real and serious issues but they have to be tackled seperately, not take one issue of one gender to throw against the other issue of the other gender and say: Well yeah but what about this... I don't think we can solve problems like that because there are a looot of issues and we should concentrate on them seperately, because they are valid seperate problems and they are not just arguments to throw around to win a fight about what gender is being more harrassed. At the end of the day sexual harrassement is a disgusting thing and working together rather than insulting eachother might be a step in the right direction, but how realistic that is, is a whole issue by itself.^^

Mika

First, I dig the suits :) Irene's apology : she would have better said "I lost my temper" rather than admitting it's her way of communicating... It's more honest in a way, just confirming she's difficult to deal with. But I also blame people around her who probably never provided boundaries, and kudos for that person who spoke out. Still, Irene has a lot of merit in her work and I love Red Velvet. Online wargames : People will always find reasons to shit on each other, be it gender or anything else. No hope for peace on the internet. Using another issue as a diversion isn't meant to be cooperative in the first place, but in the end if more awareness is raised about any problem, then it's not that bad. It's everyone's responsibility to keep whatever they consider most important to the front and survive the ambient noise. Sexual harassment being one big issue in itself, it just takes new forms with new technologies. Of course we could all be loving to each others and nothing bad would ever happen in the world <3

Fanny

I would argue that you don’t need to be punished for not being perfect. If I was “punished” every time I screwed up at my job as a teacher interacting with people, it’d be every day. Sometimes you just lose it. This was a screw up at the work place and I think Irene deserves the ability to handle it privately. If she had lost her mind at a fan, then it would be fan business, but she didn’t. It was a coworker, so it should have been handled within the team

Eri

I think Irene should apologize again, as she did. Just because she apologized once did not mean that this should be taken lightly. If there are no consequences then this will happen again in the future. But I do agree that some people are taking things too seriously... About the issue with the gender conflict, both are at fault here. Still, sexual harassment of any kind - even to an AI, should not be tolerated at all.

Anna

Hhhheeeyyyyy DKDK! I’ll try to listen in but this is the morning of the US presidential inauguration so...that’s what y’all are up against 🥰

Also about irenes apology. People need to let it go. She apologized if it wasn’t enough for you, move on. If it was enough for you, enjoy red velvet content to your hearts content!

Eri

I believe all explicit fiction with real people is harassment, however, Is RPS bad when it isn’t explicit content? Like if I write a cute story about namjoon and yoongi going out to a coffee date in an college era AU and holding hands is it wrong? There is plenty of non explicit content out there too (actually there is more of it). How is this namjoon/yoongi date more or less harmful than an IU and yoongi one that ends with hand holding?

Eri

To be honest I’m glad both sides of the gender conflict are being highlighted and possibly receiving some sort of punishment. As a gay male myself, things like RPS and the obsession over it and other things related can make me feel hella uncomfortable when I see such things in the kpop community. Especially too since it’s a very female dominated area of the fandom that has some weird thing with gay shipping, it’s just really weird and uncomfortable. It’s like how some girls are obsessed with BL (Boy Love dramas, mainly Thai ones). There’s just something within my gay self that finds it disturbing, so I can only imagine how weirded out straight male kpop idols may feel about RPS.

Alexander Lopez

What was the issue with the data gathering? Did they ask people if they could use their data? Was it in the TOS? I think that could be a problem if people aren't being warned.

Juan Marin

I believe that Irene’s apology is sincere. I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in my mid 30s. Before I started medication and therapy, I genuinely had no idea what a nightmare I was being. I also imagine constantly being surrounded by yes men gives her — and other idols — a warped idea of how they are behaving.

Ginger Noona

IDK, maybe it's just me but it almost seems that u can say anything, do anything, behave badly, and get away with it so long as you reflect on yourself and apologize. But there doesn't seem to be much incentive to not behave badly again. It's good that u recognize that u F'ed up but where does the punishment fit in. Otherwise u can keep behaving badly and just tell urself, if I get caught I'll be humble and apologize and everything will be fine. After a while that just has no meaning. Perhaps it's just my perspective, not being from the same culture, but it just seems, to me anyway, that these people who screw up just get off too lightly. I'm gona try to make it in at 9am for me. I'd to hear this tossed around a bit. As usual, u guys are the best. Steve_Ho.

Steven Pambello

Agree. Like David said, none of these Men care about protecting male K-Pop Idols any other day of the year.

Daniela Dittrich

David is right about power dynamics. Women have been historically oppressed in Korea and all over the world by patriarchy, sexism, and misogyny. These men are just gaslighting to distract from the main issue of toxic masculinity and violence against women. Men must step up to change the culture and not put the burden on women who have less power than men and have been systematically discriminated against by a male-centric culture. Men can and must be feminists too to bring about a more just and fair society because men have the power.

Christian Chin

Honestly wanna hear more about Burning Sun and everything going on with that. The other topic tends to go in circles. Both sides are wrong, the end. Also would love to hear Danny's stories that he couldn't tell on the video.
