I think you should talk about the dude's (hobbit) story on your main channel so more people can be aware of the severity of bullying culture in South Korea.

What I wanted to share on the Aftershow: Someone yelled at my son that “Your mother should have swallowed you!” He was 17. I have old white men ask me stupid stuff like what my favorite porn site is. I have also had men touch me (bottom and face) even with my husband sitting next to me! I am like property.

Matuschik, by his choice of words, was being intentionally offensive. He wanted the attention, got it and then complained about it. If Matuschik had a problem with BTS's cover, he should have complained to idol, ColdPlay, who gave permission for the cover and even complimented the cover. Why did he say BTS bragged about it? Why is it paradoxical that BTS or any boy band performed on MTV Unplugged? Did Matuschik even critique the performance? His rant amounted to irrational hate speech. It doesn't matter if his channel was "edgy."

i only have opinions on the whole bullying scandals and spotify. it all is coming out super quick (the bullying scandals) and i cant keep up with the facts and statements about it (especially about hyunjin since he is my favorite member of stray kids) i cant tell which ones are lies/slander and which ones are the truth. and with spotify, i am just mad at that whole situation since my whole playlist had all of the artists under kakao m. my overall opinion on both of these situations are the same, my head hurts and i want to stay asleep for eternity so i dont have to deal with this bullshit again.

I liken this to the #MeToo movement in the US. #MattLauer anyone? Call me bitter, but I still remember the people who tortured me in high school. When I see them, even as an adult, I tense up. Many of these people delighted in belittling me as a Korean in a rural Tennessee town.

🙋🏻‍♀️ I use Apple Music.

I can totally relate, even though I live in the US …

Tablo updated on Twitter that they worked things out with Spotify personally and their new music is now back on Spotify but they lost the streaming numbers and playlisting

Could you guys maybe talk a bit about why in the Korean culture, these bullying accusations are brought to such a level that they could basically end somebody’s career even though these are things brought up from the past? It might not even be something really bad they’ve done, maybe a little dispute with another student. It’s not like a scandal that happened after they became an idol. If that was the case, I’d get it, but all kids and teens make mistakes while growing up, there’s always some drama at school. I got bullied from kindergarten until the age of 16, but even I don’t get why these accusations blow up to such proportions, so I’d love to hear it from a Korean perspective.

The amount of small company artists receiving the short end of the stick due to big corporate war/pettiness...Spotify and Kakao M pointing fingers at each other whilst artists such as Seventeen, Mamamoo losing most of their albums on platform (along with 1 billion, 500million + streams) amongst hundred other artists. Worst part is the artists don't seem to have been notified beforehand. P Nation got Hyuna and Jessi's songs back on Spotify in a day through different distributor but lost all the streams (literally 0).. its just unbelievable.. Big4 artists (mostly) arent affected..example of big company advantage/privilege right here..

That German DJ seems like an ass. He could have just said he didn't like the cover but he went all racist. His apology did not sound sincere at all. This distribution on Spotify is total BS. They should have worked something out with Kakao M prior to going into the Korean market. They knew the possible risk but still moved forward with no actual thought of the fans or the artists. Also this is proof that Danny is not American - I don't know anyone who uses Apple music as their main source. 😊

From what I gathered from the German DJ, he seems like a hard core Cold Play fan who would not have liked any cover. However, he went REALLY racist because of his displeasure. He was not joking, and I don't think that his apology was sincere. He wanted it to hurt. When he went on and on about his car that was the same as saying "I'm not racist, but..." If he was not racist he wouldn't have used a car to explain why he wasn't.

Epik High's new album was released on 1/18/21 and now it is off Spotify. That must be heartbreaking to them! It looks like it was a huge project for them. Split into two parts and collaborations with CL, B.I., Zico, and others. I was also seeing them do a lot of promotions recently and this was their first album I believe since they left YG Ent. back in 2017.

I understand he wanted to get across that he didn't like the group's rendition of the song and he does not like the k-pop phenomenon and wants it to go away everyone is entitled to his/her opinion he doesn't have to like it but 100 percent he was enforcing racism with his comment! It was not acceptable. His response to the backlash was purely defensive and there was no sincerity to his apology. I doubt this will change anything for him or make him reconsider how he thinks because his audience probably doesn't care and by the looks of it neither does the company he works for.

Selenny Fabre

Imagine if BTS songs were taken off of spotify...armys would lose their mind

RS

Yes, He drives a daihatsu Mira! I know you said bts didn’t see it or wouldn’t care, but they probably did. Right after all the hashtags happened they retweeted a 2 day old tweet from Coldplay praising their cover. The timing is suspicious. My guess is, they saw it and they did care.

Eri

Great minds think alike Jennifer! I was going to ask this too but I feel like that Mega Couple still has yet to be revealed.

Some people in germany didn’t even understand that comparing a Korean band to Covid was racist. But honestly, I don’t think he would have compared it to Covid if they weren’t Korean/asian, so it’s definitely racism to me and it leaves a bad aftertaste considering Asians have been verbally as well as physically attacked (I aswell got many dumb comments from strangers on the streets and it made me feel even more unwelcome in Germany even though I’ve been born here). I don’t know if you heard that DJ’s words, there was so much aggression in them, you can hear his hate. What’s even more problematic is that mass media in Germany is claiming that this was just a joke and everyone who is offended by it is a hysteric teenage fan (I’m not in my teens anymore and I’m not a bts fan, and I still don’t think that was okay). It just makes me really angry seeing all of that. I grew up with children and teenagers making fun of me daily and weekly because of my Asian looks. And everyone always just said “don’t be that sensitive, it’s just fun” but being called “sching schang schong”, people making “slit eyes” (don’t know the correct term in English) or telling me I should tie their shoes since I’m closer to the ground because I’m smaller and Korean is just not acceptable, especially if people claim they aren’t racist. Racism against Asians is much more hidden compared to racism against black people, but that also means that it doesn’t get ANY attention. It honestly just makes me really tired and I feel like I don’t belong to any country. For Germans, I’m the Korean who doesn’t look white enough, for Koreans, I’m the German who doesn’t know the culture and language good enough..

Man this really sucks. I don't stan many K pop groups, but I love N Flying and spotify is the only place where I can listen to them exclusively. I don't like other artists mixed in. However, I'm in Atlanta and I listened to them this morning as I drove in to work. N Flying was on that list that you guys put up. Maybe there is hope.

I think my biggest shock was learning Danny has a brother!

Apple music is designed beautifully and very user friendly unlike what Korean apps (streaming services) offer in both the design and the user experience. Design & UX comes first for me.

I switched from Spotify to YouTube Premium about 4-5 years ago and haven't looked back (got sucked into it because I wanted to watch the GD documentary, but I stayed because the lack of ads is SO awesome). Spotify is nice, but this issue of losing songs isn't a new thing- however the scale is new. I think of this issue similar to how Netflix seems to endless drop/pick back up movie and show titles. However, now it seems more of the US entertainment companies are splintering off from the original streaming platform (Netflix) and now becoming streaming platforms themselves (such as NBC). Hoping that the music streaming platforms don't follow a similar pattern, but we'll see. Sidenote- I hate AppleMusic too. Almost as bad as Apple Maps lol sorry Danny. I agree on David on this one ;)

Christine

the German dude used his car which is Japanese as an excuse for his racism.

My first comment as a Patreon. Unfortunately can't make it for the show but happy to join your Patreon!!

Regards to All

It really sucks that it's always the middle men that gets the short end of the stick when it comes to shady business practices. It's also really funny that korean streaming services would be scared of global services. If the Korean ones went global, I'm sure they would be quite popular among international markets looking for Korean dramas, music, movies etc.

Dear Patreon Ducks! Nakd Seoul launch March 5!

The German guys car is a Daihatsu Copen which is Japanese, not even Korean. Honestly, his comments were disgusting, especially at a time when anti-Asian violence is so prevalent. Danny was the mega group couple (the one that could cause WW3 on twitter) you talked about a few episodes back Jennie and G Dragon or is it a different couple that still hasn’t been revealed?

Jenny

Happy (some holiday)! Could you say a little more on this holiday that you mentioned and then skipped over 😆🌹. Also, thank you for holding a Spotify loss support group this evening 🙏🏽
