Comments

I’ve mentioned this on other Kpop YouTuber comments about the sexual boundaries in Kpop live performance. But since other parts of the world view sexual expression differently and as a form of art in some aspects, wouldn’t Koreans understand the choreo if they are trying to reach a more global audience? Do you think this news may cause artists to create two different versions of performances, one for Western markets and one for Korean TV if they have to approach this line? Personally I don’t see the Korean society progressing towards the Western view quickly on this issue.

This is my first live as a patreon as well. Thanks for all your hard work!

Penny

Well, I wasn't expecting that :)

Cat

I can't seem to get the live?

Regards to All

This is my first live as a patreon which is very exciting! But on the story of the OnlyOneOf performance - I'm in the UK so it's super tame to me, but can understand why it might be shocking to others if they're not used to it. But you should see what kids are exposed to here - ever heard of Geordie Shore?? That's filmed in my home town and it literally shows EVERYTHING.

Cat

For Korea, I do agree that the performance of OnlyOneOf can be seen as a bit too much (for males at least, cause female ones have done a lot more). But at least now people can hear their amazing songs! For the Kingdom - actually, all of the bands uploaded the dance practices last time, so it might be the same for this round as well. So it does not seem to me that it is to put shade or anything. While the less screentime and bad camera angles is so typical for Mnet, that I am not even surprised anymore...

Anna

not sure how i missed the streamer story but ok. OnlyOneOf - are they pushing the boundaries , sure. But I have had this conversation with friends that KPop is filled with so much BDSM, sexual clothing and sexual moves (on both male/female groups) it is pretty hard to ignore. i mean how can you ask a member to do aegyo when he just grabbed a group members crotch? always found that odd. but good for OOO for standing their ground. BTS law- if they wanted to give BTS a special exemption then they should have just done that. don't try to cover it up by creating some new rules that no artist would be able to fulfill.

Cathy

I don't think OnlyOneOf's MV went too far. I personally loved the look of it, it gives me North West US vibes and as long as all of them were comfortable with it then I see no problem. I went on to listen to more of their stuff, and it's good. They got a new fan!

Also, the kids see worse on their phones and tablets.

Didn’t Son Hyun Min have a shortened term? The reason was the winning of the Korean Soccer team that allowed him to serve a briefer term … yes? If that is the case, any celebrity that elevates Korea on the world stage should be afforded the same as the athletes. The mom in me wants to establish a fairness metric! Noona is coming home!!! May 18-June 14!!! So excited! 🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️💁🏻‍♀️💁🏻‍♀️💁🏻‍♀️💜❤️💜❤️💜

Can we discuss the concept Only One Of s storyline and album? LOve that They didn’t back down and t made. Me curious

-2nd thing: Military Requirement: Everytime I think about it I think about Jin trying to tell dad jokes and having to run, run, run. Ok seriously, artists, musicians, entertainers, atheletes, etc should fall under the same umbrella as everyone else. Only exemption is a real medical condition and definitely a mental health evaluation is needed. Creating this delay definitely opened Pandora's Box.

-1st thing: Crotch Grab: cudos to their PR team..it worked everyone is talking about them. good or bad stunts, events, or "OMG" moments can help or hurt...we will see how it works out..they probably lost some fans and gained some fans so if its genuine to the style then "yeah" but if it was for "OMG" factor...why bother, the loss probably cancels out the gains...

MsAJMamaDuck7

I watched a KMS Kpop YT video of the choreography for the song libidO. There are two times that one member reaches between the other members legs. Only on the second does he tough the hip and down the leg. I actually find it quite tame. As a woman, I am more offended by the costumes and choreography of Girl Kpop groups. I find their moves too overtly sexual and that Korean parents shou lin d care about that more. On a side note, I love the OnlyOneOf member with really long hair. Must be showing my 70's youth!

Teresa Gemignani

Props to Only One Of honestly.. I mean, as long as they are comfortable with the dance and overall story they're telling. The song is a banger and they're owning it!

JinJuuuie

If the rules were relaxed and everyone got it, then that would defeat its purpose and diminish the value of the law/award. Basically if you want to be exempted then put in the hard yards and do something as exceptional as BTS did - it’s really that simple.

Dee

From a Political Science major’s view, KPop is South Korea’s greatest soft power. For that reason, the standards for successful K-pop artist should be reconsidered. At the end of the day, they will all still serve, it is just a matter of when.

Laura

I think fans are childish, and I'm a BTS fan myself, but the law should be a law, it cannot be created just for one group only. Also I don't think lowering the bar from 15 years to 7-10 for the award would be that big of a problem. It's still not an easy award to receive. And it's not even for exemption, it's just a delay for 2 years. People who receive the award are still going to serve, BTS as well. I don't see the reason why everyone is so sensitive.

Nailya

I think the issue here is the lenght of the military service training. For example, in Finland the basic training is carried out from 6-12 months, while in South Korea is at least one year an a half (please, correct me if I am wrong). How about reconsidering the lenght of the military service? Can't they learn the same skills in less time especially if they aren't going to persue a military career? Then, if the only thing that people would "lose" is 6 months of their time, I bet there wouldn't be that many issues for any K-pop idol or anyone literally, to attend military service. I understand, time is gold for people in this industry and the pandemic has already stolen some very precious months for them to continue with their careers. As a BTS fan, I hope that they find a solution that benefits both, the fandom and the artists while still acting acording to the law.
