So, as promised earlier this week, I wish to offer this first reveal for my second comic to go up alongside Rain later this year. Introducing Moonlight Wanderers, a Pokemon Moon Nuzlocke comic.
If you're not familiar with the concept of a Nuzlocke, Pokemon games are generally considered to be a bit on the easy side. So a Nuzlocke is a self-imposed challenge where any time one of your creatures faints, you are to consider them dead and you can no longer use them. It leads to great emotional attachment and can sometimes be very intense, as every choice you make matters. And a Nuzlocke comic is a fairly common trend where people basically write about how their experience with the challenge went. That is Moonlight Wanderers.
I've already long since done the run the comic will be based on, logging notes of Pokemon catches/names/partings, as well as details of more significant battles, and any other information I thought might be important. That said, the comic will NOT be a retelling of the game's story. In fact, despite using the characters from the game as well the structure of the Island Challenge, the overall story will be going in a very different direction. The story will probably be comparatively darker than my work with Rain, but also might be funnier/quirkier to offset this. Take that however you will.
The image above depicts the four main kids with their primary Pokemon. All of them have been aged up to better suit the more mature nature of a Nuzlocke, but I'd still place them in their late teens. If I write this correctly, the characters you might know from the game, like Hau, Lillie, and Gladion should still be pretty familiar, but do expect some new developments not seen in the game. As you can see, some designs are slightly different too.
And because I know people will ask: you CAN expect many established characters may also potentially (dare I say, very likely) get the patented Little Lynn treatment and be queer and/or trans to some capacity in this comic (because that's just what I do). It wouldn't be a focal point like in Rain; they just would BE what they are because they are.
But the big character to mention is perhaps the yellow-shirted player character (named Maya for this comic), who is a fully fleshed out character with quirks, fears, aspirations, and quite a bit of dynamic growth planned (as opposed to a blank slate in the game, just vacantly smiling at everyone).
Anyway, this is actually an old image (I drew it in December, I think), and certain aspects of it are a bit dated already. I changed my plans and especially my opening a lot, so I needed to adapt. But if you continue to be Patrons of this tier, there'll be more to see in the very near future (as I have a lot of practice drawings of characters and Pokemon already).
With any luck, Moonlight Wanderers will be starting by the end of Summer (and again, will not interfere with Rain, but go up alongside it), but I'll keep you posted with more images from this (and more) as go. Questions are welcome, but be mindful that there's probably a lot I can't answer just yet.
Take care for now, everyone. ^_^
