December 2020 Newsletter

It's the end of the year! Thanks so much for your support on our long haul journey, and we especially appreciate your...patience...the last couple of months with Patreon updates. We're busy with our heads in the books!

The last couple months, we've released some apex episodes of Game Studies Study Buddies. Our episode on McKenzie Wark's Gamer Theory introduced you to gamespace and the wild vagaries of the military entertainment complex. We also talked about the origins of GSSB! You can listen to that episode here. Our most recent episode is on Kishonna Gray's Intersectional Tech, which addresses how Black users of game technology experience the day-to-day of games and game culture. It's a valuable and rewarding book that we enjoyed a lot, and you can learn more about it here.

Too Much Future continues apace, and we're about halfway through Fallout 3. Some real highlights have appeared, such as the Papa Neeson Journey at the end of episode 26. We're having a good time playing through and talking about this game, even though it is feeling a little loose in the middle.

Just King Things is also really clipping along. We've posted episodes on (in our opinion) King's first big miss, Rage, as well as his first collection of short stories, Night Shift. We've also done bonus episodes on Maximum Overdrive and The Shining miniseries, which you can listen to if you're a $5-a-month backer here on Patreon. Next Monday we'll be releasing a marathon nearly four hour long episode on The Stand and an also-very-long bonus episode on the 1994 miniseries.

NOTE: The Just King Things bonus episodes have previously been in the Patreon feed where the monthly podcast is. In an effort to disambiguate them, they're now going to be in their own separate private feed. I'm making a post right after this one that $5 backers can see with a link to that feed for you to input in your podcast player of your choice. Sorry for making you do a little more work! We appreciate your support!

We're rounding home base with our Elsinore let's play, and we've been publishing new episodes biweekly. We just finished recording it, so everything is in the can and, well, it's a real doozy of a game.

Mages & Murderdads will be returning soon as we play through Disco Elysium. Our plan is to have it completely (or at least mostly) finished before we start posting episodes, so you can look forward to that probably beginning in January or so. It's a complex and deep game, so the show format is going to have to adapt slightly, but it'll be worth it we think.

More good news for $5 patreon backers: the Vice City LP returns today! We're going to be finishing that as soon as possible so something new can come along.

Even more good news: new monthly podcast will but up with this post.

We've been extremely busy with all kinds of neat things for yall, and we really appreciate the support that you've shown for us this year. Ranged Touch has grown a lot, and we've been able to do that without compromising anything. As you might know, we are currently on the #DriveTo1025, and we're trying to get to 1,025 supporters. When that happens, something special will happen...we might even launch a new show that is being teased actively on the Ranged Touch twitter account...who knows. In any case, we're trying to build Ranged Touch even more, and our shows mostly spread by word of mouth. Please let people know about us!

That's all for this month! We'll see you in 2021!
