July 2021 Newsletter

We missed last month's newsletter! We were too busy! But we've got the delicious stuff for you here. Don't eat this, though, please.

Last month's Game Studies Study Buddies was on Lev Manovich's The Language of New Media, an important book in the history of understanding whatever the hell "new media" are. CMRN and Michael worked their way through the book in order to make it helpful and understandable for you, although they're not sure that the whole thing is worth reading through today. Listen to that here.  The episode before that was on Christopher Patterson's Open World Empire, which injects cultural analysis and interpretation into game studies around what Patterson calls "the Asiatic." It's a fascinating book, and the episode is pretty good too. You should definitely subscribe to the show if you haven't already.

Too Much Future has gotten going with Fallout New Vegas. It's an interesting experience after Fallout 3, and Michael and CMRN have started to really get into the density of the Western Fallout United States. A little bit of whiplash has happened, but they're digging deep with both the first and second episodes.

Mages & Murderdads is still trucking through Disco Elysium. The highs are high and the lows are puzzling, and CMRN and Danni are trying to figure out exactly how they feel about it. There's another episode coming out later this week, and then there's only a couple left where they puzzle out their final feelings. They'll also do a special episode at the end about The Final Cut. Just King Things powers through the future by reading some more Stephen King books. CMRN and Michael read through Cujo and watched the film, and everyone was pleasantly surprised. Next week you'll be able to enjoy an episode on The Running Man and a special, backers-only episode with special guest Simone de Rochefort! Tell you friends to get onboard this Patreon train so they can experience that special episode! The next episode will be on The Gunslinger, and there will be some cool announcements about new merch and stuff like that. Stay tuned!
